Who was the last free agent we signed that actually worked out for us, excluding guys in minor league deals? We have had a ridiculous run of horrific management: volquez, Ziegler, tazawa, chem, buck, salty, Morse, Heath Bell, etc. last guys who actually worked out might have been Reyes and buehrle and they only worked out in comparison because they were not complete trainwrecks
You have to go back a ways to find any.

Greg Dobbs was decent at pinch hitting (what he was here for). Javier Vazquez was pretty good when he was here wasn't he?

To be fair, I liked the Chen, Salty, and Morse (as a bounceback candidate) deals at the time. Chen had for years put up good numbers in Baltimore and was durable. Had he put up his usual numbers here, we'd both have had a better team, and he'd have likely opted out, and we wouldn't be talking about him. Continuing the Marlins trend, he comes here and sucks. Similar for Salty - he had put up good numbers in Boston with a lot of doubles, which would've been great at Marlins park, but obviously didn't work out. Morse I liked as a buy low guy, hoping for him to rebound after a bad year. Though indifferent about it then, Bell also had a track record of being a great closer, but the wheels fell off here. The rest you knew were bad, or at least WTF moves at the time.

    • Chen I liked at the time, but Morse and salty were both moves that were clearly destined to fail. Salty was someone we clearly bought high on at the time coming off a year he never had previously come close to off the top of my head

And javy Vasquez was a complete train wreck of a pitcher until he started pitching well halfway through the year when we were already out of it

Ah, maybe that's what I'm remembering about Vazquez - I guess it was just that run he had I was remembering. Regardless, the Marlins' successful FA signing cupboard is barren.

That's rather embarrassing. Organizational first basemen: AAA J. Rodriguez and Teliz AA E Jageilo A+ Guttierez, Silviano and A Alonso.

It’s close to the embarrassment one would feel when comparing Trevor Richards to Greg maddux

                • According to Severino the strategy with Brinson now is to keep him up with the big club, but just play him less.

                  Brilliant.

                  • It was stupid coming out of spring training given his spring peripherals. 2 months later and it’s fucking inexcusable. It would be different if we were actually trying to contend, But it makes 0 sense at this point

                      • This makes at least 2 times the Marlins have been screwed by "New York" officials office, just this week Leads you to believe there is FOR SURE a predjudice against the Marlins.

                        That was a homerun...no question.

                        • Are the Marlins on the verge of a historic losing streak? Seems the games are not nearly as close as they were a few weeks ago - the scoring gap is growing.

                          • Brinson just hit a MONSTER DONG

                            • Statistical realness....the Diamondbacks franchise is 5 years younger thab the Marlins yet has reached the playoffs 3 times, and has 1626 wins (81.3 wins per season) all time vs the Marlins 1890 (72.7 wps). The Tampa Bay Rays have 1528 wins (76.4 wps) and the Colorado Rockies have 1901 (73.1 wps). So of the 4 expansions teams of the last wave the Marlins, despite 2 World Series wins, statistically are the poorest performing franchise during the regular seasons. If they had NOT won those, they would have ZERO to hang their hats on.

Jeter hopefully can turn this around.

                              • Some JT news from a "source"(Even tho I said this last month)

I’ve checked and multiple sources confirm Catcher JT Realmuto has not been offered a contract extension by the Miami Marlins. Very little discussion on that front.

League sources I have spoken with over the past week believe Realmuto will “eventually” be traded by the Marlins. Team has been engaged but nothing advanced, and if MIA doesn’t get a massive return at deadline they seem to have no issue keeping him.

Add some stuff I have heard but guys will "confirm" next month

They have NO issue keeping him until Winter Meetings because his value stays high until then. Teams they have talked to are NYM/Wash/Toronto/Minn/Houston/Arizona/Milwaukee. They want a High End Prospect but have mentioned to a few teams they would also take a 4/5 player deal with centerpiece being a Good Bat and Good Arm that they like. Good Arms mentioned have been Peterson(NYM)/Corbin Martin(Hou)/Luis Ortiz(Milw)/Gonsalves(Minn)

FO has tried talking extension 2 or 3 times with JT agent but has NO interest in talking about it
