yes, because there is no difference at all between throwing 6-7 innings and 2. Also he has a history of looking good as a sp a few years ago and his last few starts in NOLA were really

          • Even the Cards announcers are questioning why Brinson is up.

            Really terrible AB as usual.

            • Richards and Ben Meyer are up. Looking forward to seeing if Meyer can be an effective reiever

That means Richards is in the rotation?

Richards has earned another shot at starting with his work in AAA. Hernandez only had one really poor start, so I'm a little disappointed that they aren't giving him a chance to bounce back, but I get that they want to limit his innings. I'm sure he'll get more starts at some point. I assume Cloyd is going down.

I'm interested in seeing Meyer pitch too.

                      • Definitely been interesting how they've handled starting pitchers so far this year. Kind of the opposite approach they've taken with Brinson. First sign of trouble and they're out of there, obviously part of it is to limit innings, but I wonder if there's an overall plan for limiting innings and whether they'll stick a pitcher in the bullpen or not.

I think thus far its been due to a combo of guys like Straily, Hernandez, and Chen coming back on top of what you said with limiting innings plus most of these guys lacking effectiveness when they have pitched up here.

Couldn't agree more about Brinson. It makes no sense.

I generally am into the pitching workload (except Tazawa and Cloyd which never should have happened).

                            • The brinson thing has to be coming to a head very soon, right? Granted, we've been saying that for over a month now, but this is just ridiculous at this point. The kid will still figure it out long term but good god every move they have made with him has seemingly been the worst possible move for him long term.

There is this growing call from people around the team in the media to call up Alcantara and they are acting as if its ridiculous and a travesty that we havent yet and i just dont get it. I dont think people realize he is a top 100 prospect but not this Kopech type prospect. Hope they arent expecting Alcantara is a future #1. He still has some things he can work on in AAA and theres no need to rush him. Let him keep going deep into games and get the K rate up a little bit and get him up when we hopefully deal Straily and possibly Urena and ideally Chen at the deadline.

Im very interested to see what they do with their SP prospects towards the end of the year. WE have a bunch of guys who could make the case for a promotion and being in the rotation down the stretch between Richards, Peters, Gallen, Alcantara, Lopez, Neidert, Jarlin, plus Hernandez and Smith already being in the majors and Chen needing to be on the team financially. I hope we just play it safe and kind of let them alternate starts in order to get them all involved and just be around the big leagues for experience down the stretch cause I think that can be valuable and then have a complete free for all in spring next year.

Its obviously a long ways off but as of now it looks like the rotation battle for next spring could be super interesting and for the first time in a while its not just because we have a lot of mediocre options battling it out. Instead, we actually have like 6-8 different young club controlled guys who you could make a legit argument for as a possible rotation piece starting next year.

                              • Brian anderson has been super encouraging this year. Rookie and he's hitting aorund .300 with around a .800 OPS. Won't ever be a star but he's a long term starter under team control for a long time and can play OF, 3b, and 2b and supposedly 1b as well.
