Didn't think of that, and you're probably right he will be the auto pick. Still doesn't make up for the lost commercial oppertunities lost by being on the Marlins.

This is a pretty poor argument. Realmuto is really good, but he is not a generational talent who is going to be in Gatoraide commercials even if he was a Yankee. I He's not Buster Posey or Joe Mauer in their prime. Where are the Yelich and Ozuna TV commercials?

That being said, Realmuto's financial problem is he is a catcher which position is clearly undervalued in arbitration. That's not the Marlins, that's the system. He needs to take a buyout of 5 years and take the guaranteed $50+ million. That's his move. Or risk it and go for broke in free agency 2020 when he is 30 years old.

When will they just get rid of Ziegler already? It’s pretty clear he doesn’t have much left - and certainly won’t be a piece a contender wants to acquire with how terrible he’s been. I was all for the idea of giving Tazawa and Ziegler a chance to go out there and become trade pieces for us, but it’s obvious that won’t happen (Tazawa is obviously already gone). Just get rid of him already. How demoralizing is it for the team to be in a position to win one of the few games they’ll win this year, only for him to cough it up again. You could see it on JT’s face.

Super2 deadline is 2-3 weeks ago. With how the AA/AAA pitchers are going, I think that's a safe date range for the purge to begin.

Yea, I know it's bad but at the same time if they offer him $70 million bucks, they can turn that frown upside down. (I suspect they are using S. Perez as a comp which puts it closer to $50 million so I don't think they have broached a number like $70.) I still believe commercial interests will win out and you can buy player's love.

Also, I think it's easy to sell the AA/AAA/MLB young pitcher staffs in 2 years down the road... even if all the "Milwaukee" bats suck so far. It's not like the team is a complete wasteland.

The whole point of Ziegler as Closer was to raise his value for a trade and make the other RP cost less in 2020.

At the stage Ziegler's value is a low level prospect and will stay at that. Smart thing would be to let Bearclaw be the closer however they don't really care about the loses at this point. Tank Away!!!

Yea, just saying they need to show him the money. He's great. They will not find a better catcher. They are going to get surplus value at anything under $100 million in contract value so just do it. Blow out the Perez comp and give him something like 6/$80 and call it a day.

Took a flier in barraclough last night in fantasy thinking that this had to happen soon as Ziegler is absolutely horrific

Who was the last free agent we signed that actually worked out for us, excluding guys in minor league deals? We have had a ridiculous run of horrific management: volquez, Ziegler, tazawa, chem, buck, salty, Morse, Heath Bell, etc. last guys who actually worked out might have been Reyes and buehrle and they only worked out in comparison because they were not complete trainwrecks
