If he's ready, it's great that he's coming up. That being said, it'll be another SP who probably doesn't go very deep into games, which is already a problem for this team. Hopefully Cueto can be an innings eater when he comes back.

    • No surprise here. I'd favor giving Monteverde a go in the rotation over Perez for the exact reason you stated.

I am very weary of seeing Soler and his impoverished stats in the two hole. I wouldn't be playing him at all, but if I had to, it would be batting him maybe 7th.

I have written off Cueto. He better be excellent in AAA before I'd give him major league innings, and I don't think he will be.

      • Idk if Mish is advocating for eury or foreshadowing, but he is very loudly saying eury either will be or should be up here soon

        • im not sure how close the white sox are to blowing it up, but a name that would make a ton of sense for us if they do decide to do that is tim anderson. He hits for average, doesnt walk so low OBP, but he is a flat out great player. 12.5 million this year, 14 million club option for next year. Well worth that based on what he brings. that would be a hugely valuable bat to add to the lineup for this year and next year and gives us another year to figure out who in the system might be a long term solution at SS out of the current guys or if we need to look elsewhere for another solution.

          • With Sandy struggling, Trevor not even throwing and Pablo gone, the FO may feel like the play is to bring Eury up before things get out of hand (Run Diff suggesting things could get out of hand quickly without some band aids).

Thankfully, May 5th thru June 15th is our softest stretch of the season.

if that is their thinking, id agree with them. throwing bryan hoeing and devin smeltzer is a great way to fall out of it before july. Let eury take his bumps up here and let him go 5 or at most 6 every 5th day. It will get him some major league experience so he is up here and ready to go full throttle next year which is when we might actually have a legit chance to compete with pitchers getting healthy and hopefully 2 more bats added.

              • any idea wtf skip was doing with his pitchers the last 2 days. allowing any reliever to throw 5 walks in a single inning is mismanagement, and it was clear braxton garret was throwing meatballs up there. allowing him to give up 11 runs seemed pretty cruel.

favoring monteverde's 4 starts over cueto's 15 year career is absurd. cueto will be fine, which will be a big improvement over hoeing.

                  • Does Fulton/Eder and a guy like Watson or even Jacob Berry get it done for Anderson? Id think it would take more. He would be the perfect addition at SS though for 2 years.

                    • Eury's career numbers for a guy yet to turn 21 are absurd. 180 innings, 251 K's, 58 k's, 2.90 ERA, .99 WHIP. and he's 20 years old throwing 100.

It's nice to see some urgency instead of the "let's wait until we're out of it to make a move" approach of the last few years.

It's nuts. So essentially that's all before getting out of his teenage years. There will be growing pains and they will be careful with his pitch counts and innings, but im excited to see him hopefully soon. Looking ahead, hoeing's next outing is saturday which would be 1 day short of full rest for eury, but the next start after that for Hoeing comes after an off day so eury would then be on full rest Friday May 12, home vs Cincy.
