    • Look, if we don’t pull it out, we should all be pumped for taking 3 of 4 and a real good Eury rebound start.

        • What was the issue with Contreras and DLC?

Dlc screamed and didn’t run to first after drawing the walk. Look like he just screamed let’s go or something like that but the broadcast said he might have been saying something to flaherty

            • We crush balls all night and that drops for them for a run. Sometimes it’s just not your night. Also, again, why are our righty relievers so bad? Why is George Soriano pitching a meaningful inning fresh out of aaa

              • Seemed like that was up long enough that DLC should’ve had a shot at it.

Bad fielder, bad base runner, and not all that productive of a hitter. That’s a spot I would upgrade at the deadline. He has no business still hitting 3rd

                  • Man, just looking at the bullpen right now, it’s fucking awful. Puk, Brazoban, Scott, lindgren, Soriano, Floro, okert, and chargois. Kim needs to make some moves immediately. It’s going to start costing them games at some point

None of those guys are getting traded.

The answer to a bullpen upgrade is internal - it's EURY. He has only 25 innings left to give here on out. I'll take 20+ high leverage appearances over 5 more starts and a shut down first week of August. It's not going to impact his development. He's fine and can be stretched out in spring training for 140 next year. coughThey should put all these guys on the Johan Santana plan and stretch them out during the season to end strongCough

They should be able to get full loads out of Sandy, Cabrera, Rogers, and Garrett *if* healthy. They'll have to skip 3-4 Luzardo starts as he's going to hit his max if they just let him rip. And all of that ignores the playoffs where they are really going to grind down the arms with a deep run. They really need to find 10+ starts or more if someone gets hurt (which based on history, someone will). This is where Cueto needs to get his shit together as they really really need someone like him every 5th day.

Basically, if Cueto sucks, go get a SP and shift Eury. All issues solved. A fancy reliever isn't solving the innings issue.

                      • We had no business winning last night and we should have won tonight. It’s a wash. We all would have salivated taking 3 of 4 from the Cardinals before the series. We’re good. Let’s take 2 of 3 from Philly and it’s an unbelievable 1st half.

It’s an unbelievable 1st half if we win 1 of 3 against Philly this weekend. For real.

I’m just trying to come up with an answer.
I imagine it is the defense as offensively it is hard to argue. I find it hard to believe they can't find 4 starts a week for Myers and Edwards with Jazz hurt though.

After he had played the middle infield and a little bit of third base with the Rays, the Marlins have Edwards playing only second base and seeing his first career action in center field in 2023. Having positional versatility is key to not only maximizing his big league role, but to having one at all. Edwards isn’t a great defensive second baseman and and because he doesn’t have the arm to fit on the left side of the infield, a trial in center field makes a lot of sense. So far Edwards looks fair in center. His reads are a little tentative and he’ll make your eyes pop out of your head when he peeks at runners before he’s actually secured fly balls in his glove, but generally Edwards looks pretty comfortable considering he’s learning a new position on the fly at the Triple-A and big league levels.

                          • You don’t shift eury to the bullpen until he gets to 120 and then you monitor him from there. If he’s tiring out, just shut him down completely. He’s at 84.1. If you limit him to 5 innings every start, that’s 7 more starts. Id skip his turn 2 or 3 times and do things like pitch him last out of the all star break to preserve him as long as possible. If the goal is to keep him healthy, pitching out of the bullpen sporadically in a way that he has never done in his professional career is a pretty good way to potentially get him hurt. Get him to 120 then switch him to the bullpen and monitor him from there. If he pitches 10 more innings Over 10 games out of the bullpen it’s not going to kill the guy. They can get to 10 more turns in the rotation with a few skips before they have to think about taking him out of the rotation.they really need Edward cabrera and rogers go come back though, and neither seem to be particularly close at this point.

I also think there is a chance max Meyer comes back at the end of the year given where he is in his development back from TJ. That could be a major weapon people aren’t really talking about come playoff time.

but they definitely need to acquire 2 righty bullpen arms and maybe a back end rotation guy as well at the deadline if Edward cabrera isn’t progressing any time soon

Gotta beat the Phillies, I truly believe it is the most important series this organization has had in 15 years or so. I'm not buying the covid year. It is their main wild card competition, at home, and their best 3 pitchers are going. This is a beat your chest we are not going away moment and sets the stage for contending move trades.

The only person who continually seems to think this team is going away at any point is you. Yes it’s a big series, but they are now 21 games over .500 against all teams aside from a historically great braves team. This team isn’t just going to fall apart at any point. Especially because they are going to make some sort of series of moves in the next few weeks to add. This isn’t a luck based team, this is a team that has great starting pitching, has had a good bullpen, and makes a ton of contact at the plate and has been overall average offensively. It’s not some unheard of recipe for success
