Not sure if he can continue that though.
It's a maybe right now, and that's more about everyone else sucks.

    Fortes, _____
    Cooper
    Arraez
    Wendle, Amaya
    Berti, Segura
    DLC, Soler
    Jazz
    Sanchez
    ______

They can pretty much take whoever is best of Davis, Garcia, Yuli, or Hampson here, and I have a hard time thinking we land on Davis. And this is ignoring the answer might be "Edwards" or "Burdick." You could also throw Cooper into this mess, but he's at least hitting some left handers this year and has a track record when healthy. I think he's a tick above the rest here and literally just play him against lefties and shift Arraez to 1B against right handers as the other 4 infielders are superior defenders.

But Davis defense + career LHP split (.650 OPS) might be better than Garcia, Yuli, Hampson, and guys with options who won't play a lot so you want them getting PA in AAA (Edwards, Burdick), so who knows.

A good organization will get the two blank lines above via trade and also upgrade Cooper or Amaya, and then just have one of all these guys as the 13th man. So hopefully they do that so we don't have to think about this.

Robles, Laureano, Grichuk. There are a few of them who hit lefties and can play CF that would be legitimate upgrades IMO.

Of course it goes back to extracting more value, as Candelario and E. Diaz make a lot of sense to get 2 guys in 1 package from Nats or Rocks. Hard to see what else makes sense on Oakland unless they blow them away for Langeliers and bet he improves rapidly as that is more of a longterm Jazz-Gallen bet.

I'm imagining it's something like this and not a dream Goldschmidt move.

He was a minor league Rule 5 pickup. Has to be put on the 40-man by the end of the year or he will be FA.
They have 40 space. I'm imaging they keep an extra pitcher or two, but they have this:

Fortes, Banfield (I think they keep Banfield to be the 3rd catcher and bet on late blooming)
        n/a
        Arraez, Berti
        Amaya, Nasim
        Segura, Groshans
        DLC
        Jazz, Edwards, Mesa Jr.
        Sanchez, Garcia, Burdick
        =15

They have 3-4 more slots here minimum and only 2-3 will be 40 man roster guys. I. Lewis needs protection, but no one is taking him to mention. Jerar, T. Johnston. Just not much else here. Also ignoring Garcia may be a DFA and Banfield, Groshans, and Burdick are no sure things. He could very easily get his way on if there is any promise.

        • hadnt even thought of robles but i really like that as a bench OF guy. Cheap for this year and next, clearly talented, good defensive grades, actually hitting the ball decently this year although he has a slightly high BABIP, and he has some speed. That's the perfect 4th/5th OF for 2 years. Wouldnt cost much either. Like him a lot more than laureano or grichuk.

Him, Gallegos, Gomes, and bringing up edwards is a much improved team when you remove hampson, Davis, Brazoban, and Stallings. Still need 1 more big bat, but that at the deadline would make me ok with waiting till the offseason and re-evaluating the pitching injuries/innings limits. They are in a really tough spot to add a big bat because of the injuries to Eder, Meyer, and Fulton and needing to compete this year with the question marks with Eury's innings limit and the injuries to now Cabrera, Rogers, and Cueto.

          • Myers 36 HRs in 662 ABs between AA/AAA. (mostly AA). K-rate was 27.3% Ks per PA last year, This year K-Rate is only 16.9%.

he's also got some speed too. 21/26 sb's last year and 14/15 this year. worth keeping an eye on.

              • unreal that we have gone 11-4 in June and have lost a game on the braves and half a game on the phillies.

                • we're starting to get some respect nationally. MLB.com now has us 9th in their league power rankings.

                  • update on where we stand league wide-

Hitting, we are 9th in BA, 16th in OBP, just 22nd in slugging, 20th in OPS, 22nd in hr's, 27th in walks, 10th fewest k's, 12th in sb's.
Pitching- overall we are 14th in ERA, 16th in WHIP, 5th most k's, 17th in fewest walks, 12th in BAA.13th fewest HR's.
Breaking it down by starting pitching- 12th in ERA, 11th in WHIP, 4th in k's. 5th fewest hr's allowed, 17th fewest walks, 7th in BAA.
Bullpen- 16th in ERA, 19th in WHIP, 10th in k's, 23rd in BAA, 17th fewest walks.

you can make the argument the bullpen numbers are weighted down by some of the guys who sucked for limited innings and that the overall bullpen is better than the numbers suggest, which isnt exactly wrong, but i think every team can make similar arguments.

what that means to me is we need the following: a power bat somewhere in the lineup (can be SS, 1b, 3b, or C), 1 more bullpen arm (definitely a righty as we are great on lefties), and maybe 1 more SP quality innings eater as we get into questionable territory with Eury's innings and an unclear situation with Rogers and Garrett. Or you can look at it as we have the pieces and need to ciean up some of the back end of the roster like i was saying earlier and improve upon guys like Davis, Hampson, Stallings, and the last bullpen spot currently taken by brazoban.

                    • every time this cabrera spot in the rotation comes up until either he or rogers comes back is a huge game for us. I dont expect 6 innings from hoeing but if he can give us 4 innings and 2 runs tonight and let the bullpen take over i would take it and run.

This blue jays series is really big. With hoeing pitching tonight if we could take 2/3 from them with 4 coming against a really struggling pirates team that would be enormous.

We have 20 games before the break as the schedule gets tougher, but 14 are at home with just 6 on the road- 7 at home vs the jays and pirates, 3 on the road against boston and then atlanta, and then 4 at home against the cardinals and 3 against the phillies. If we could go 12-8 or better that would be huge. I would hope we can at least go 10-10 though and be 10 over heading into the all star break.

Tonight is a big one though if we can steal it with the clear pitching disadvantage against a really good blue jays lineup. Berrios is really good and he has been tremendous over the last month so it will be tough. he has a 1.11 ERa over the last 30 days but has walked a lot more people than he usually does so we need to make him work tonight.

Hopefully we start seeing some better crowds with this team playing great and the heat and panthers done. Havent been able to say this since like 2017 but this team deserves some fans out there cheering them on. I want to see playoff games in this stadium finally because it will be electric if we can get there.

The Marlins have played 10 weekend (Saturday and Sunday) home games this year. How many have you gone to?

                        • Cabrera gave up 15 ER in his last six starts (25 IP). Shouldn't be hard for Hoeing to match or better that.

Prior to his last start where he was likely injured, he had dropped his ERA from 5.35 to 4.29 after 5 starts where he went at least 5 innings and 3 ER or less in each. His control isnt what we expected coming into the year but his overall numbers werent terrible because his stuff is filthy and he throws 96 on average. He is going to be really good in a year or 2. He has a 3.97 XFIP for the year indicating some bad luck As he gets older and his control and command improve, he will be really good.

Hoeing has a 4.62 XFIP for the year, doesnt strike guys out or throw very hard, and he himself walks a decent amount of guys as well. He might get lit up today against a great and deep blue jays lineup. If he can just not get blown up and keep you in the game today you take that.

i lost a child and then was out of the country for 3 weeks, so traveling an hour and a half to loan depot hasnt exactly been priority for me. I will definitely be going to games down the stretch.

Well that is awful and I’m sorry.

I just get frustrated because I have 3 friends in real life that constantly bitch about the lack of attendance whenever the subject is the Marlins.

None of the 3 ever go to Loan Depot even though all 3 are baseball fans.
