BTW doing quick payroll, if they trade for Perez and don't trade anything major, the team is going to cost $110m next year.
Perez, Fortes
Arraez
Segura
Amaya, Berti
Groshans
DLC, Burdick
Jazz
Sanchez, Garcia
Sandy, Cabrera, Eury, Cueto
Luzardo, Rogers, Garrett
Floro, Chargois, Brazoban
Puk, Scott, Okert
Meyer, Eder/Fulton/Monteverde, Bender, and Nardi are in AAA here. So is Edwards. And yes, it is very clear at least 2, probably 3, names should not be within those bats so they have work to do. I bolded those for obviousness.
The drops are Perez $20m if he isn't traded for, Cueto saves $8.5, Floro $5.5, Luzardo $5, Scott $4, Rogers $3m, Okert $2.25, so to speak. Hard to do the arbitration projections in June
Basically, the smartest financial move is Luzardo/Rogers to lower payroll longterm, while Scott is awesome, sell HIGH right now as this is the best Scott there is, they can't afford him next year, and they are fine with Puk/Nardi/Okert as they are awesome, and Floro may be a keep for this year as they need him right now, and trade in offseason as that's a cheap tender versus the 2-3 year $7-8m deals good relievers are getting. Cueto is an unknown but he could save another $8m if they didn't pick up the option which might happen.
So financially speaking, Luzardo/Rogers, Scott, and prospects would be the big trade for Peraza or Westburg or whoever, ideally that move nets Peirera or Kjerstad back too to get 2 large bat pieces at once even if Eder/Fulton/Monteverde gets chucked in there as a second notable arm.
That would set up a payroll around $90-98m next year (depending on Cueto option) with S. Perez eating $20m, and they would need a 1B/DH bat (Hoskins? Keep Soler?) and another SP if Cueto isn't picked up. Which may be likely as maybe they can find someone who will take $4-6m to be the team's 6th SP and save some money there to devote to offense.
For 2023, it would be something like Luzardo/Rogers, Scott, Eder/Fulton, Fulton/Monteverde, and guys we don't care about out, for S. Perez, Westburg/Peraza, Kjerstad/Peirera, and a greater reliance on Rogers, Eury, Cueto, and Nardi for innings. It works.
Just saying here, Luzardo is awesome. Rogers should be awesome. But if we are thinking Perez money + they need an epic longterm bat or two, they make the highest money so one has got to go.
