Josh Bell would be a nice Aguilar upgrade.

I want Anderson Cooper playing 1B, for both practical and fun nickname reasons. Wendle/Berti can handle 3B obviously with what they are doing.
They need a CF and a lefty killer (really any position besides 1B/DH as they have a lot of flexibility with a "new CF" and the infielders play everywhere).
We've been saying this sadly since October. Aguilar and DLC should be replaced with those as soon as possible. Nothing has changed here and its infuriating.

You make a deal for 1 more bullpen arm, maybe a David Robertson like fish16 mentioned. And I think we're good to make a run. Bullpen is upgraded, and Cron over Aguilar is a big upgrade. Cron has another year under contract at a very reasonable price.
Then in the offseason you go out and get Brandon Nimmo to patrol CF. You get by with Sanchez and maybe Berti rest of the year. (surprised we haven't seen more of him out there)
To me, Sixto has no value right now in a trade and he showed he has top of the rotation talent. Let him continue to work his way back and see if he can reclaim what he was before you deal him for a penny on the dollar. Same thing to a lesser extent with cabrera. you dont trade guys like that for minor upgrades.
And there is a reason cron has been on 5 teams in 6 years. He didnt just become a .900 OPS guy, he's playing in colorado. Giving up anything of value for him would be a waste in my opinion.
If they are going to upgrade 1b and not just move aguilar to the bench and finally give Lewin a chance, i love the Josh bell suggestion. That's a huge upgrade, gives us another lefty bat, and wouldnt cost as much as it would seem because he's a free agent to be.
I'd give up a minor prospect for robertson, maybe another minor prospect for Bard, and then see if you can get Bell for Bleday/Burdick plus a lower level flier or 2.
C- Fortes
1b- Bell
2b- Jazz
SS- Rojas
3b- Wendle
LF- Soler
CF- Sanchez
RF- Garcia/BA
DH- Cooper
sprinkle in BA and wendle all over the diamond and get full time ab's for both of them
Then you have Robertson, Bard/Insert other reliever available for little at the deadline, Scott, Bass, Bleir, floro, Sulser, fillers
Rotation of Sandy, Pablo, Rogers, and then when healthy you have Cabrera and Luzardo, and in the mean time Garrett has been good and i dont like castano but he's weirdly effective and as a 5th starter he's ok until other guys get healthy or until they finally bring Meyer up.
Or, if Meyer is going to be on an innings limit, make him the closer. He's got experience and he can be a great closer already.

At least 1 of the SP’s is going to the bullpen for the last couple of months of the season, right?
They can’t all be starters.
It’s been weird to me how the Marlins seem to have no urgency to let 1 of the youngsters go to the pen for the rest of the year and become a high leverage arm. It would improve the team a lot.
Also, is there any chance Eury gets a shot this year? I know he’s only 19 but he’s dominating AA lol.

not that anybody wants to hear anything david samson has to say, but today's local hour he did with lebatard was tremendous if you either want amazing nostalgic shitty marlins talk or to be incredibly saddened by how poorly they ran the team. they did top 5 number 5 starters over his tenure among other things and some of the names brought up were a blast from the past. among the names brought up- Michael tejera, rick vandenhurk, sean west, brad hand, graham taylor, tom koehler, chris volstad, mark Hendrickson, chris resop, brian banks, Aaron Thompson, jacob marceaux (never made it to the big leagues), scott olsen, wei-yen chen, heath bell, mark redman, among others. It's deeply amusing with a side of making it completely obvious why they were such terrible owners for their tenure.
Also they bring up their 2005 draft which remains the worst draft I've ever seen. managed to turn 5 first round picks, all used on pitchers, into 0 good major leaguers. Then they drafted a guy named brett sinkbeil the following year early, another pitcher, who also sucked. Though they also drafted coghlan that year. then the following 3 years drafted Matt Dominguez and Kyle Skipworth and chad james. No wonder they were terrible. Unbelievable mismangement. And the 3 years before the 2005 draft they drafted hermida who never put it together, jeff allison who was a drug addict, and taylor tankersley who sucked. Hard to build a low payroll team when you strike out on 13 consecutive first round picks. that's legitimately hard to do.Last edited by fish16; 07-06-2022, 01:33 PM.

A minor prospect for Robertson does not move the needle. That's the problem Neither does Josh Bell, because it is positional redundancy in a RENTAL (plus larger contenders will offer more). They need BIG and BOLD upgrades to go for it. They need a major CF upgrade, a reliever upgrade, and a lefty killer bench option. So they should do that - or be sellers and circle next year.

But, this can wait until they make another move. Maybe Cabrera/Meyer is shot out for a bat.

Not sure if any of you follow Aram Leighton, but he brought up this interesting point on Twitter:
“The Marlins almost have to make some trades at the deadline because I have no clue how they are going to open up 40-Man spots for their Rule 5 eligible prospects.
Bleday, Burdick, Conine, Johnston, Soriano, Hoeing, Leblanc and Simpson all candidates to be selected in Rule 5”
