  • Brigham and Dean are locks to be added. I think Kinley gets added because someone will take him in Rule 5 again

    • lou you still have Bour on there. I'd probably keep Twine on there 1 more year to make sure what he's doing at AA right now is just a fluke. I'd let Graves or O'Grady go before him.

      • Also we might have the #1 NL Claim spot and #4/5 in Rule 5 which means we should be active in DFA market

I would put Twine in AFL and see how he does first. Twine/Yamamoto/Brian Miller/Dylan Lee/Eveld and 1 other to AFL is what I would do

That's the thing about Graves-they are gonna keep him on the roster all year just to DFA him next year? Doesn't make much sense

That way they aren't burning up his service time now when the team is going nowhere.
I never understood why they didn't sign a few other veteran guys aside from Maybin to fill in and use as trade chips at the deadline.

          ---

Speaking of the deadline - I read an article today that a lot of people within MLB are pushing to move the trade deadline back to mid August and get rid of the waiver trade period completely.

Graves has to show something to warrant him having a spot. You can't keep him on the roster just on the principal of the thing.

Thanks, that's what I get for cut/pasting from a few pages ago.

But that helps though, so they are at theoretically 39/40 from my hypothetical (I don't know if anyone knows if Guzman has to go on or not? I'm really confident Monte, Diaz, Yamamoto, Brigham, Dean, and Quijada do as the "new" ones).

Ya these are all locks with Brigham and Dean likely getting added in Sept

Totally locks. It's really all about this stuff:

-DFA and eat the money - Chen and Prado
-Trade - Castro, Dietrich, Straily, Rojas, Barraclough
-The it doesn't really matter even if there is talent here - Graves, Meyer, O'Grady, Rucinski, Bostick, Ortega, and Lee

You can easily see 10 of those guys not on the 40 man next year. I can see them eating Prado (not Chen though, there is always hope in lefty pitching), trading 2-3 of those guys (Straily, Barraclough, and Castro especially), and there are a few DFA's in those last 7 for sure. They aren't keeping three 25th man outfielders, when they already have Sierra on the 25 man as he's obviously a lock.

So if they like Twine and Kinley? Sure, they'll still have 4-5 more to go assuming the trades don't bring in 40 man guys.

This isn't a real worry to bring it back to Graves. They can protect him one more year if they see something in the arm and no one of real issue is getting booted. Cloyd? Del Pozo? Despaigne? Guerra? Those are the options internally in an either/or debate.

                  • Ortega, Prado, Realmuto, Dietrich, Riddle, Galloway, Rivera, Sierra go at 1:35. That, Marlin fans, is an all time weakest franchise lineup. For his first major league start, Touissant faces a minor league team!

You're right about that Lee. Holy crap.

Yep. That's 1 star, 1 second division starter in Dietrich, a reasonable bench player in Riddle, and Ortega is probably your 4th best player in that lineup right now which is just an insane thing to say as he has a 25th man ceiling.

                        Yikes. Scott Pose still around?

You may be over-rating DD and Riddle.

Basically a 2 WAR player over 150+ games for his career - better than Bour.

Riddle plays some solid defense and has a little pop. I don't see him as embarrassing. Although his RHP split has mostly evaporated.

Either way, this is pretty bad. They really need to get Anderson and Castro into the lineup, and get Brinson, Dean, and Cooper onto the roster to give them "hope."

It's Dietrich's D that I was referring to. The ball bouncing off his glove at 1b was in my nightmare last night.

Yea. He's still "fine" though. The rest is a mess. But next year might be OK (relatively speaking) with Realmuto, Dietrich, Diaz, Riddle/Rojas, Anderson, Dean, Brinson Cooper/Ortega/Sierra/Bostick as the core lineup. There is real hope there as those guys have profiles where they should hit (minus SS of course). I think they'll trade Castro + money to clear room for Diaz soon, and Prado just has to be a DFA. That should be fun to watch when it happens with all the arms they are going to churn through.
