  • Chen's home/road splits are pretty amazing.

The guy is one of the most reliable starters in baseball if he's pitching in Marlins Park and probably the worst starter in the game anywhere else. They need to limit him to only starting games at home. Use him as a long reliever on the road until he proves he can get outs anywhere else. There's a pretty simple solution. Give his road starts to the Rule 5 guys the rest of the way as a way to get them more innings. The 2 of them combined would likely be better than Chen's road 10.27 ERA. I feel like the Rays would have already designated him a "home starter" only.

    • Pablo Lopez is a really good SP piece moving forward

Been saying it since he came up. I feel real confident that we'll be able to pencil him and Neidert into the rotation for years to come.

Completely agreed. We've done insanely well in the few trades with the Mariners.

That sucks but glad to see Lopez try to get through the 7th rather than babying him.

Wish we could have bought low on jurickson profar in the offseason. Finally putting it together and would have given us a nice option going forward at a few different positions.

          • They should have pulled him after the walk in a 2-0 game.

As far as trying to win the game, probably, but its a lost year and i like allowing the young pitchers to challenge themselves. Rest of the year should be about the young guys and whats best for the future.

Challenge Lopez and Richards, put brinson and Anderson and sierra/dean at the top of the lineup when brinson comes back

So you think Jeter, Hill and Mattingly are trying to win games or lose games?

I think the bigger picture of finding out what we have in young players and challenging them should be the priority over winning games the rest of the year.

Answer my question. Are Jeter, Hill and Mattingly trying to win games or lose games?

Im not being deposed, and that question depends on what the best move to win the particular game is. Tonight, if we have a better chance of losing by risking it and trying to challenge pablo lopez to go into the 7th inning rather than call in a reliever im cool with leaving him in.

You’re not being deposed but it’s a message board where people ask and answer questions.

And I feel extremely confident that Jeter, Hill and Mattingly are trying to win games. They don’t want to lose the remaining 5,000 Marlins fans (who are the laughing stock of the National League).

We are the butt of nearly all baseball jokes.

Watching Mattingly coach on a nightly basis, and seeing that Jeter retained Michael Hill... I'd go with... lose?

I did like leaving Lopez in tonight. His fastball had dipped to 92-93, but he was still throwing well, and the bullpen is in shambles with . Ultimately it was the walk to Gyerko that hurt, not the cheap HR (cheap as in barely over the wall to the shortest part of the park - he did hit it well) on the hanger. A solo shot there and we're still ok.

They are trying to win for "culture" purposes.

And they should have absolutely pulled him, but it practically doesn't matter.

It's just exciting if they are going to turn the minor assets - Smith, Richards, Pablo - into legitimate #4 SP or better. They are in business if 2 of them work out and hit their top end projections.

Of course Jeter and the front office want to win. The players on the field are out there trying to win. Big picture, losing games this year isn't the worst thing in the world since it will improve their draft position, but they are absolutely trying to win every game.

Games like last night are disappointing because Pablo deserved a better fate, but it was still a good performance by him and encouraging to see.

Definitely. ELO has them as getting the 5th pick - https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com...b-predictions/

I suspect they will be pick 5-7 range. Not exactly tanking for Correa/Bregman here, but that's another story.

This is really going as expected. The "keep everyone" team was an easy 65+ win projection before the year.
