Luzardo and Scott for Mayo, Kjerstad, Norby, Povich, and Pham.
I think Bendix is also calling the Red Sox and floating Luzardo, Tanner Scott and Jazz for Marcelo Mayer, Kyle Teel and Miguel Bleis.

Even selling high, DLC doesn't have the most value. But do it for a package of C Draka Baldwin, OF Jesse Franklin, RHP Drue Hackenberg, and LHP Dylan Dodd. Basically 3 wildcards to stock the system and another LHP arm to take Luzardos spot in the rotation.
I can’t tell if this is sarcasm. You’d be lucky to get a single wildcard for dlc let alone a full package of 4 players for a terrible outfielder who doesn’t do anything well

      • I will hold out hope for the offers we had discussed repeatedly, but I think we will end up being very disappointed with the group of 19 year olds several years away that bendix ends up getting for luzardo. He got a guy nowhere close to mlb ready for berti, and arraez package was not only just bad but the best player is just about as far away as you can be from being mlb ready

Martorella hitting .190 with a .470 OPS in AA for us. Marsee hitting sub .200 with a .624 OPS for us. But keith law liked it so that counteracts everything. Meanwhile Arraez has 1.1 WAR according to Bball reference and .8 for fangraphs with the padres in less than a month, just won player of the week, has struck out just 4 times in 100 at bats, and is leading the league yet again in hitting.
That guy was included for salary.

I don’t know. I haven’t heard anything about the Arraez trade in 3.67 seconds….i really wish someone would post about it again!!

DLC's sweet spot % has been elite the last 2 full seasons. A team with good hitting development (ie: not the Marlins) would happily trade an upside piece to the Marlins for Bryan "The Punching Bag" De La Cruz.

                • it takes a special level of homerism to think you are getting anything with upside for DLC. He is a career 98 WRC+, meaning he has been a below average hitter his entire career, and that's the best part of his game. He has 0 value. You might get a crappy bullpen arm for him. He has 1.5 WAR in 1500 career PA's. he is barely a major league player. He brings nothing to the table. he is a fully formed player, and that full form is barely rosterable. he is a AAAA player.

                    anyway....

Jorge Soler has a negative WAR this year apparently

That’s an interesting thought. I’m usually against putting all your chips into one deal because I feel like spreading it out gives you a better chance at hitting, and the Willis/Cabrera deal will always be in the back of my head. But that’s a pretty good haul of top tier prospects, so I’d consider it.

You could maybe talk me into Basallo being that guy but that would be borderline from me unless there are other major pieces also coming back.
Basallo is pretty much universally seen as the better prospect, no? Either way, I’d be happy with one of those two. I don’t expect them to get a package that good, though. It seems like the return is never as good as you hope, and Chicago got a package headlined by Drew Thorpe for Cease, who should be similarly valued to Luzardo.

Than Kjerstad yes. Kjerstad is a level of prospect below Basallo in my opinion. I was saying you could talk me into Basallo as the centerpiece as a C, but i'd much prefer Mayo as just a plug and play cornerstone, Kris Bryant at his peak type of talent that they desperately need in the lineup. Basallo being just 19 in AA is impressive, but a lot of the hype with him is projection whereas mayo is just a lot safer to me. Kjerstad doesnt have a crazy high ceiling to me like the other 2. Mayo needs to be the focal point. But i doubt they get rid of him. They have more than enough other talent in their system to get the help without getting rid of him.

I meant compared to Mayo, but you explained your reasoning anyway, and it makes sense. I’d be very happy with either one, but I’m not getting my hopes up that they get someone that highly regarded. I’m expecting the top guy in the return to be a bottom-half top 100 guy. Unless they include Scott to sweeten the deal. But I get the feeling Bendix is a quantity over quality person, so I’m not sure that I’m expecting that.

                            • Marlins will have a winning record in May with a win tonight. Throw Sandy, Eury and Max into this equation (while launching total zero Tim Anderson) and get a MLB ready cornerstone bat in the lineup for Luzardo and Scott and things start to get interesting.

That’s what’s fascinating about this rebuild. It could 100% be a quick rebuild if they commit to those pitchers and make a couple of moves in FA. I wonder if more likely they sell more than we think and go for a longterm build.
