I think Sandy is tipping his pitches from the stretch. I think he will be fine. Id like to see the percentage of innings he is giving up runs this year compared to last year. It seems like he’s having some good outings with huge innings ruining the starts
this year his numbers with no runners on are better than last years.
What do you guys think about going after Candelario?
1.8 WAR (.285 BABIP) with the Nats this year.
I was thinking the same thing last night.
His numbers for his career are very Avisail Garcia-esque. (AKA you don't know what you're getting year to year) But he can't cost much, Free Agency year, and having a great year right now, probably would be worth a look.

I've thought about this one. I don't think it is surprising I don't post all wild things in my head. It could work. He is splitting hard against right handers so he's not perfect as I do think they need a guy who hits lefties more, but his career rate (.751) against lefties is fine so might be a SSS.
I go back to Victor Robles here also, who looks "better" this year but he is also a phenomenal defender historical and has a .737 career OPS against lefties. And that number is higher as of late.
And of course Corbin as I do think they need 75 innings unless anyone wants to think Hoeing and Eder can do that and then no other SP gets hurt this year + they are smart as discussed and start limiting everyone's innings besides Sandy to shorter 3-5 inning bursts.
Corbin, Candelario, and Robles mean nothing to them and have a very quiet combined 3.1 WAR this year, and seem like sufficient role players for the Marlins to be "cheap" about this but get some guys that help move the needle. They combined probably make $50-55m over the next two years (Robles is controlled next year BTW to be a 4th OF for another year). Their absolutely best surplus value is maybe a 4+ WAR combined, so they probably have a negative $20m in value due to Corbin's contract.
Garcia has $35m left on the books and he's probably negative $25-30m in value if we're assuming he is at best a .5 WAR near replacement player moving forward.
Something like this works on paper:
Corbin, Candelario, Robles
x
Garcia, Miller/Millbrandt, I. Lewis/Morisette, any outside top 30 player or two. Nationals save $15mish dollars here over 2 seasons. Remember, I think the Marlins have $30m to spend next year so they are just spending some of it early to contend.
Fortes, Stallings Cooper/Yuli
Arraez, Segura
Wendle, Berti
Candelario (he is a very good defender to mention)
DLC, Soler
Jazz, Robles
Sanchez
Sandy, Cabrera, Eury, Cueto
Luzardo, Rogers, Garrett, Corbin
Floro, Chargois, (Brazoban and Hoeing AAA)
Puk, Scott, Okert (Nardi and Eder AAA)
This then sets up potentially an immense trade of Luzardo/Rogers and Scott for any infielder (as Arraez and Candelario can play 1B) and catcher upgrade.
Of course, they can also just bet Hoeing/Eder will have arm inventory, J. Davis or Edwards is good, and just focus on even cheaper SP/C/IF Bat options somewhere else. But they have options for sure and Candelario is not a bad idea. It's pretty nuts Candelario, Corbin, and Robles are on a combined 6+ WAR pace for the season right now and it looks pretty real.
Dane Myers. A Reynolds in reverse. He was drafted by Detroit as a two-way player from Rice in 2017. They immediately chose to make him a pitcher. In 2021 they bagged that and made him a hitter. So, at age 27, he is still improving with the bat. After he was waved by the Tigers this year, the Marlins picked him up. He played OF, 1B and 3B at Pensacola. and was maybe their best hitter. He has gone crazy at JAX since being promoted a week ago.,
Sandy’s xERA is 86 points lower than his ERA but Lee’s idea of trading Sandy after his Cy Young year sounds a little less insane today than it did months ago.

Where's Jonny? In his last 15 games Jonathan Davis has a 178 avg and .208 OBP. 15 K and just one walk. Enough is enough.
Agreed he stinks. Edwards should come up and he gets dfa’d and then when segura is back hampson goes.
Don’t want to see anyone getting hurt but the segura injury might be beneficial. Can’t send a player on that contract down and him getting hurt will require a rehab stint that might allow him to figure some things out and gain some confidence back against lesser talent
