I agree, I think he is closer to Ozzie albies level than Ronald acuna if that makes sense. I think his career obp has been mildly concerning and is what’s holding him back from being a true star. Good player, not a superstar

    • Sandy is absolutely filthy tonight

      • Sandy is in the scherzer/verlander elite class of guys who not only go out there to shut you out, but also to go the distance. To me it’s what separates a normal ace from the top aces in baseball. When you watch him pitch, it’s like he’s not only pitching you now, but also trying to mow you down quickly because he wants to manage the pitch count to still be in the game into the 8th and 9th

        • I think we can all agree that this wouldn’t be happening if stallings wasn’t catching Sandy. Thank god for him making sandy a superstar. God forbid we get a catcher who can hit in there to give sandy some higher chance of run support

          • 0-3, 3 k’s for stallings. Get this fucking guy off the team already. 1-11 on the year with 7 k’s. He is not a major league player

Yes, but let's use maybe a better comp - Javier Baez. Volatility at its finest. Some ludicrous years (two 5.8+ WAR), some solid ones (he has many between 2 and 3), and career 3.7 WAR per 600 PA. Still a player you build around for sure. That is what I think a reasonable expectation is once he settles into his defensive position and power. Ideally, he's your 4th best hitter. Or 3rd and the first one is really, really good.

              • Wow, exactly 100 pitches, 9 shutout innings, exactly 2 hours of game time. He’s gonna win the cy young again. What a bargain contract

                  Stallings is just that good.

                    He did it.

I’ll make a compromise- since we need fewer runs with sandy pitching, stallings catches him only and fortes plays the other 4 times through the rotation

                        • Now build on Sandy’s performance and go out there and light up Pablo tomorrow and go into a tough series in New York on a high note

Hence, this goes to the whole argument - why are we going to spend on Correa when we are going to lose anyways. I think predominant thought here is spend money a year early, help the kids, and build culture (see Rangers - Seager/Semien), and you know build your business as any normal businessman would, but Bruce is too fucking poor to make that leap of faith a year early.

I often think what I would do if I were Bruce. I am poor, but I want to win. I have to balance these things. Is it a, I have one shot here to spend real money and I'm going to do this Loria style. In 2024 the pitching will be ready, so *now* I am going to greenlight that three year budget of $125-150m contracts for 2024-2026, DEFER money on top of that, and if shit happens, I'm selling and burdening the next guy with these bad contracts. And we live our own personal black mirror of Sandy, Arraez, Jazz, and Luzardo are Yelich, Realmuto, Ozuna, and Stanton. Rinse repeat...... Or it works, and that is the catalyst to the longterm establishment of the Marlins as a middle of the pack acceptable payroll team and I am a genius. That's what Bruce must be thinking right? It can't be as basic as, IDGAF and I'm just collecting checks and/or enjoy this prestige of being one of the shittiest owners in sports.
I hope you’re right, but I truly believe they talked themselves into believing this could work the way they’re doing it, and the fact that they can’t or really don’t want to spend more money, combined with not wanting to accept that they’ve made some bad moves (and got cold feet on some moves that they should have made) makes them want to buy into that belief.
