Among all the downright bad comments we have to sift through, like the Padres trading Abrams above which is just *YIKES*, Lee drops an objectively great idea. I hadn't thought of this at all. Villar can totally play SS. Rojas is a fantastic championship level bench player and if SD trades for Mookie, they are looking to contend right now. Rojas is great for anyone. Including Rojas in a Myers dump, and SD throwing in "less" money is a great idea with Villar.

Myers, Morejon/Weathers, Miller, Ruiz, $10 million
    for
Miguel Rojas, maybe a solid prospect thrown in as that's a lot above (Jerar or Burdick maybe?)

That's an awesome trade for everyone.

And Eddy should still not making the opening day roster and the move is Anderson to 3B and Myers to RF*

    • I just think if you trade Rojas, you better sign Villar to an extension, and he's not going to be as cheap as Rojas.

Jazz takes over June 15, 2021 so you just sign a stopgap SS for next year.

Maybe Berti is actually good also?

Or Lee gets to scream bloody murder about Eddy?

If Villar is awesome, and he isn't traded, you can also just tag him with a qualifying offer.

And, Miller in my hypothetical above may also be MLB ready and he's a SS (https://www.fangraphs.com/players/ow...position=2B/SS).

Basically, a lot of potential options. I'm not worried about losing Rojas in this kind of scenario.

I don't think that's an awesome trade for us. You're still paying Myers almost $60 million. Morejon/Weathers would be great, but Miller and Ruiz scream future bench players at best to me. Then you want to give them Burdick or Jerar who are both better prospects than those two middle infielders. And like you said Rojas is a valuable asset. I'd need like I mentioned earlier a Luis Torrens, a talented catcher who is almost major league ready, or heck even Josh Naylor have him split time between 1B and OF.

Jerar/Burdick are corner players and I think those guys have lower value unless you exhibit a high end (Bleday-hit tool, Sanchez-defense and power potential). I'd trade those guys for those infielders immediately if I could. I'm also a big believer in Morejon/Weathers, and I do think Wil Myers has the potential to explode.

There are a lot of potential combinations that can work. I just think it's a good idea to use Rojas to deflect salary. Myers is off the books for when his payroll would matter so the amount of his contract means little to me with what they have in the pipeline. If Naylor was a right hander, I'd be more into him. They need a right handed compliment to Lewin (and Bleday and Sanchez) for a bench 1B/OF spot.

Isn't that what Myers would be?

Exactly? I think he makes a lot of sense for them. Just saying, if Myers were to fail, Naylor still wouldn't work theoretically (unless Lewin bombs).

This also let's TJ trade Cooper as he is DYING to move him (kidding)

                • I don't think Lewin or Sanchez having to force somebody like Naylor out of a spot would be the worst thing in the world. As of right now the guys we have at 1B, SS, CF and corner outfield are such jokes that these guys getting these spots is inevitable. If we were any type of real baseball organization they'd have to force good players out of these positions. lol

Please explain. Do you think that a) Padres would never trade Abrams or b) Alcantara for Abrams wouldn't be enough? I am always interested in finding out what "downright bad" comments I am guilty of.

                    • Are we out on Puig? I don’t understand this team’s reluctance to spend money, they barely have any payroll obligations.

                          Garcia, Conley, Tarpley (Quijada AAA)

I'm just putting Urena in the pen as you listed him there, but it would make more sense to me to put Urena in the rotation, Brigham in the pen (he was good!), and send Hernandez to AAA to be one of the three primary call ups with Dugger and Quijada.
Of course he wouldnt be legitmately injured but he had oblique injury LY so they can just use it

No clue if they do it or not but thats the selling point they are using for RP. Sign a Milb deal with bonus and fight it out for a ML spot

Sources : In addition to pursuing RP Pedro Strop the Marlins are also very much in pursuit of RP Brandon Kintzler (as I’ve previously reported.) It appears they are very serious about signing one of those two, presumably to handle the 9th.

Strop is said to be the favorite. Issue with him is discussing bonus for saves

                          • If anyone says just give out 2 ML deals. They can't 60 Day Sharp till March which is why they have to do this with the Milb deal. If they give out 2 MLB deals they have to DFA/trade 2 guys(Conley/Urena) but if give out 1 ML deal and few Milb deals they can DFA/trade(Conley) then March 60 Day Sharp and add 1 of them. Not saying they will do this BUT it gives them some flexiblity with Urena. They can deal him in ST/wait till mid June

I would keep Urena around till deadline myself but they arent too interested in that. If they get a offer they like he is gone. This is actually true for ALL RP-Stanek/Steck/Yimi/Jarlin. If a team calls and offers Miami exactly what they want(Jesus trade LY) the RP are gone. The reason behind this is the FO loves the RP they have sitting in upper minors(Stevens/Aiello/Castano/Lee/Vesia/Alex Mateo/Eveld/CJ Carter) and would like to take a look at them to see if they can stick. They aren't gonna give guys away like they did with Brice or Wittgren but if some team offers a 45 non 40 man prospect for Stanek he gone

Another thing to watch on the arms is what does Denbo do with the older arms this year. We have guys like Puckett/Roberson/Remey Reed/Walters/Andrews/Hock/Guenther/Chad Smith/Brabrand/Tyler Jones/Lindgren/Sherrod all too old for A Ball. Does he put them in AAA/AA and test them? If so we could have even more upper level depth than we already have. From the looks of the Milb FA/Signings and the fact they want to start seeing who will stick he might do that

Gonna be interesting to see how they set up the minors this year

I wonder if he or Castellanos would consider a year deal like Ozuna took.

fangraphs has us as an interesting free agent possibility for puig still.

i forgot what the number was but i remember reading something that puig's contract demands were ridiculous and they were. Im not sure where we are for the next year but a 1 year deal or a 1 and 1 mutual option or team option for the 2nd year and i would be interested. If they do that, however, that would tell me they are just completely done with brinson and sierra, which wouldnt be shocking but I think i might want to just give them 1 more chance to just see if there is anything there at all, plus monte and jesus sanchez arent too far off anyways and id value giving them some major league time over puig in a hypothetical choice.

                                - - - - - - - - - -

we have 5 on mlb.com's top 100 list. Cabrera at 85, sanchez at 80, jazz at 66, Bleday at 28, and then sixto is 22. Feels like Jesus sanchez could be in line for a big improvement on that number by midseason, seems like his stock is slightly down but he was super fucking young getting his first taste of AAA and he still held his own. He's such a pure hitter.
