Ya, this is right on. Not sure whose brilliant idea it was to go with the chain link fence rather than something you could actually see through more

This is my thing plus as much as I love baseball the way the game has evolved makes it torture to try to sit through a full game. I was at um for 3 years for law school and went to very few games and I’m an enormous baseball fan. I can’t imagine a casual fan wanting to go to many games at all. I understand why the game has evolved into the hr or strikeout type results that it has become but it makes the game themselves so much more boring in an already admittedly dry sport.

Absolutely he deserves 0 benefit of the doubt as he’s done this before, I was just trying to parse through his numbers compared to last two springs and point out any differences that indicate and kind of significant improvement. He still hasn’t walked but the k’s being down could be something to be indicate some sort of improvement. But I’m absolutely with you that he will get no benefit of the doubt until he does it in the regular season.

He needs to show in the regular season that he can both keep the k’s down significantly while not sacrificing his power

See, I had no idea this is how it worked. Couple that with a circuitous route to go down there, and resulted in me never going down there.

What else would you put besides a chain link fence? You need something that gives somewhat since it's the outfield wall and there's no see through padding that I know of lol. A wall of bubblewrap? Lol

      • Maybe clear panels with padding in certain places was my thought. Just felt like there was some sort of better option other than a bright green chain link fence but I’m probably wrong considering they had to have thought of that when constructing the fences

        • Yelich's deal is official now, and here's the breakdown:

The 28-year-old Yelich was already under club control for $12.5MM in 2020 and $14MM in 2021 — plus a $15MM club option ($1.25MM buyout) for the 2022 season. Those salaries came under the terms of Yelich’s previous seven-year, $49.57MM deal, though; the newly proposed arrangement would obviously catapult him into the game’s elite in terms of annual rate of compensation.

Under the terms of the new contract, those 2020-21 salaries will remain in place, while Yelich will reportedly be guaranteed $26MM annually from 2022-28. The option is said to be valued at $20MM with a $6.5MM buyout. He also receives a full no-trade clause. The contract doesn’t have any opt-outs. In all, he’ll be paid a hefty $215MM over the next nine seasons thanks to today’s extension.

The problem is the panels would have to be strong enough to stay up with someone running into them, but flexible enough to give . You'd have padding every few inches to make it worth it, prison bar style.

I think the fence is black, not bright green.

          • It would be cool to have short fance. They filled the pool already.

            • That’s a much more functional use of that space. Pool was a cool gimmick I guess for a while but, shockingly, at a baseball game many people aren’t trying to take a dip unless they are hammered and jump in in which case they get thrown out pretty quickly. I still think they are missing just one more thing other than more to do outside the stadium and that is getting rid of 5k seats or so in the upper deck outfield and putting a standing room only bar/restaurant type thing like they have in the new Atlanta stadium, which is awesome if any of you are ever in the Atlanta area

So you want another Budweiser bar?

No more of a restaurant/sports bar type combo. I just think you can offer more in the stadium using those seats that are pretty much just always enormous swaths of empty blue seats. I think in Atlanta they call it the chophouse with standing room and seats combined. Look up what that looks like and that kind of concept is something id be interested in. Something like that would be cool, plus from that angle you can see out the window panes in left field towards the downtown skyline. I just don’t think we ever need 37k seats and we need more things to do in and around the ballpark. You put in a cool little restaurant/bar thing there and I’d go there if I’m early for a game and want a place to eat or drink

One thing I'm not sure about is structurally whether something like that could be put there.

I'd think structurally they could do something like that in the upper deck around home plate, as they do have concessions behind those areas - they could just cut out this section of seats between the supercolumns on the upper deck. Make it flat and put a big place there.

I did quite a rough chop (pun intended), throwing the Chophouse in just for a quick look:

Fair question, but I think if you leave the first few rows in the upper deck under where you enter those sections and then take out the upper rows and add it in like that I think that could look really cool and be an awesome new place to watch the game

First few cuts of spring. Nothing surprising but Garrett, Rogers, sixto, Cabrera, and Holloway all part of the group going down

                      • Cabrera was optioned specifically to aa as opposed to sixto in aaa. That’s irrelevant to where they actually start the year but I’m interested to see where he starts. Also, Cabrera seems to be overtaking sixto in terms of #1 arm in the system and I’ve read a few things about sixtos readiness as he came into spring. Something to possibly think about down the road. Last year was just cautious with the elbow but sixto not even getting a single appearance before being sent down is a little concerning

Also Lewin is supposedly unanimously becoming a very highly rated prospect

The Clevelander is no more - they decided to part ways, and the pool will be filled in.

I actually don't have a problem with this. As cool as having a pool in the park is, the reality it's not used much. Nobody wants to go in a pool at a game.

I'd like to see the area opened to everyone during the game - you could still have the seats that require tickets, but let people walk down there and hang out and see the game from a different perspective in a standing area behind the seats. Open those stairs that connect from the promenade to it (the ones behind the autonation alley), and let people go down directly instead of the indirect route you have to take right now after games (down escalators and through hallways).

I wonder if they'll still have unique concession items there? Another "real" bar option would be nice too (there's already a bar in the Clevelander) - I know they have that one in the outfield, but more options are always good.

Call it the "[insert sponsor here] Field Level Zone" or something to that effect.

The "wide variety of audiences" to me means more kid-friendly, and not adult oriented like the Clevelander was.
It's not a huge deal, but is was nice to have boobs and bikini's and now it sounds like we'll have Hoho the Clown & Cowboy Cody at birthday parties. Camermen won't be thrilled as those rejoiners from commercials won't be as interesting. But if they think it's more viable to make some $$ they gotta do it

                            • I thought of another thing about the Clevelander......

Even though I only went once and that was enough for me, I always noticed that there was usually a decent amount of people in the Clevelander.

Curious to see what they do with that area.
