  • MLB Pipeline is out - https://www.mlb.com/prospects/2020/marlins/

They knocked Monte down a rung.

They are VERY high on Devers compared to FG

Fitterer is a tick higher than other places (ahead of Guzman)

Rest feels like it's just slotting preference.

Seems pretty expected besides Devers and Fitterer.

Ha! I completely forgot about that absurd bandaid loria tried to put on a bad team. That move was peak loria trying to put a bandaid of a big name last his prime on a clearly non contending team to try to make a splash. They also got rid of two pretty decent prospects from what I remember in Dominguez and rob Rasmussen. Neither turned out to be anything but still a stupid move. I remember him being aggressively mediocre then we decided to sell at the deadline like a month and a half later

I just don’t see devers hitting for enough power to ever become more than a utility guy. Maybe I’m missing It and it doesn’t even need to be home run power, the guy doesn’t even hit any extra bases whatsoever and idk how much that kind of player can impact a game in the current era

      • The Brewers are extending Yelich for around 7/$200M+

        - - - - - - - - - -

Not sure if this is in addition to the extra two years or not.

Passan is saying it's 9 years of control, which would mean 7 beyond the current deal.

I wonder if they've worked out 7 new years and rewritten the next two to give him more money in those years and less later.

He's signed for 3, so none of that makes sense. The rest of the info needs to come out. Maybe there is an option for the 7th "new" year.

If it's 9 years of control, that's basically 9/$241 for ages 28-36. That kind of makes sense. Rendon just signed 7/$245 for ages 29-36 which is a comparable star comp. That's the price you pay for signing with the Marlins, but I'm not crying any tears for Yelich. Good for him. He deserves it.

Fish16 is going to say this is stupid because it harms Milwaukee in 2027 and 2028.

          • Joel Sherman of the New York Post tweets that the deal, in its totality, would check in at around $215MM over nine years with a mutual option for a 10th season. With Yelich already guaranteed $27.75MM through 2021, that’d put the new deal at around seven years and $187.25MM in new money, depending on the final numbers. The preexisting option year will be “torn up” and replaced by the new extension, tweets MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.

            • i'd like to see the year by year details but do any of these huge contracts into late 30's ever work? Especially for small market teams I dont love deals like that but its good to keep him locked up for the rest of his career. I wonder how much they are prepared to spend though considering there could be a similar problem to when giancarlo was here in terms of building the rest of the team around him.

also, just going through the guys on our mlb.com list and i hadnt even heard of breidy encarnacion before and his numbers last year were really pretty impressive. still just 19 all year, if he can grow into his body and develop more velocity that might be someone to watch down the road.

Even better. They are definitely shifting some money around (i.e., front loading something which the Marlins should be doing).

Great move for everyone there. Nice deal for Milwaukee and Yelich's grand kids are beyond set up for life.

good for yelich. he has become an absolute superstar and has always been a good dude. from the brewers perspective though i hope they offset some of the huge money in the beginning/middle of the contract with the end of the contract. To me they either needed to spread some of the money out over the course of the deal so they can build around him during the prime of his career before that contract potentially becomes an albatross or they needed to make it a shorter deal and just pay him more per year. Like I said, in a less dramatic/cheap way it would scare me a little bit like the stanton deal did in terms of a small market teams allocating too much of their money to any one player and not being able to build a good team around a guy. It's a delicate balance that smaller market teams have to balance but yelich is absolutely worth the risk as his game and pure hitting ability at least would seem to be destined to age better than guys like Stanton, pujols, cano, and the list goes on and on.

One thing i do know though is that the brewers need to start developing some damn pitching already.

                    • Good job by the Brewers acting like a real franchise. Hopefully we do the same one day.

If it's the 60 day DL, that is really helpful procedurally. Hopefully he is OK.
