  • While Tarpley was getting pasted, I just had to investigate for some plausible reason that the Marlins swapped out fellow 27-year-old Jarlin Garcia for him. I couldn't find one. Garcia had both been better and projected better for this season. Has anyone read or heard anything to justify the downgrade?

Like I've suggested (too often perhaps), Alcantara's control is a big issue. And it's not as if he's experimenting or throwing casually. Like he said in an interview after his first spring start, he was extremely disappointed. He's totally committed to putting his best foot forward. When his fastball sails, he is lost.

    • Has Jazz made an out yet at the plate? I lost track.

        Never has, never will.

Would like to see a strong Urena showing on Sunday. Starting pitching has been a bit ugly.

Nick: Also, you forgot Josh Roberson, who will IMO be the best Pitching Prospect in the Jupiter rotation.

Am I the only Humberto Mejia fan? He was fantastic last year.

        • Listened to DVH for the first time in years on Friday. He hasn’t changed a bit — he’s always been this awful.

But he's never been eighty. He's just not helping to create a bigger fan base.

Are those the numbers from lost? Asking for the 37th time, column headings or just spend 30 seconds typing out things.

And no, we all like Mejia for who he is, but this:

Mejia turns 23 in March and he’s only thrown 23 innings above Low-A, but he has a riding fastball with plus-plus vertical movement and a viable curveball, so the Marlins added him to their 40-man. He needs to locate his fastball at the top of the zone more often and should be a fine middle reliever if that — and a velo boost out of the bullpen — occurs. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/top-40-p...miami-marlins/

Mejia currently works at 90-93 mph and touches 95 with a fastball that could add more velocity as he continues to add strength to his 6-foot-3 frame. He gets good depth on a curveball that has allowed him to dominate right-handers at the lower levels of the Minors. He also shows some aptitude for throwing a changeup. Mejia has pounded the strike zone ever since he turned pro. His biggest issue is staying healthy, and he went on the injured list again in July with what the club described as mild soreness. If he can improve his durability, he could become a back-of-the-rotation starter. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2019/?list=mia

Sounds like 2 pitches, and if he develops a real changeup maybe he is a back of the rotation arm. He has a nice frame at 6'3, so I'm expecting a bullpen velocity boost but maybe he surprises like Pablo who radically shot up out of nowhere, or Cabrera who turned himself from a good to great prospect. This is also ignoring durability where some guys are also just relievers.

while he's not good, there is not a single person on the planet who could do something as a baseball radio voice for the miami marlins to create a bigger fan base.

                  • hope jorge guzman is just struggling with something but very concerning that his velocity is down on top of his awful control so far. hopefully nothing serious.

also brinson with another 2-2 day. he seems to be earning an everyday OF spot if its available.

                      • Former Marlin OF J.B. Shuck pitching for the Nationals. Apparently trying to become a 2-way player.

Marlins go down 1-2-3 against Shuck. Struck out Wallach and Jazz.

                          there's a name I haven't thought of in a while, but you're dead on.

Cooper should definitely be playing the majority of 1b for us so long as he’s healthy. The guy is just a solid hitter with a good approach and is just a nice steadying force in the lineup. I’d be willing to bet Aguilar is not here come June/July. To me he screams a guy who is living off a nice half year in Milwaukee. He reminds me of a lot of our other failed signings, most notably marlins legend mike Morse and his great run here

New mlb top 30 out. Instant reaction is devers is way too high and shouldn’t be above misner, Scott, burdick, or encarnacion.

Carlos Lee is the former Marlin first baseman that comes to mind when I think of Aguilars potential failures as a 2020 Marlin.
