I don’t think either do much of anything is what I was trying to say. It’s just symbolic.

It’s the same thing with vacating wins when colleges get caught paying players

    • I don't know, I'm of the opinion that USC having to vacate it's championship means something. Maybe I'm in the minority.

      • Not sure if Moran makes it thru DFA but no big issue. Alot of LHR are getting claimed/traded. Ill take another Rookie ball prospect

In other news, the Marlins MIGHT have to make another 40 man decision soon. Pedro Strop is down to 3 teams-Miami,Texas,Cubs and signing soon. Will be interesting to see who we DFA when we sign a RP. Conley? Urena? Cooper? I would go Wallach and see if u can sneak him thru-if so cool but if not u trade him for something and sign a Sucre or someone for AAA

        • Fun with numbers. Think Eddy Alvarez - the speed skater who will turn 30 at the end of the month and played SS at New Orleans last season. He put up a .978 OPS last season, fashioned in 265 plate appearances. 18 2B, 2 3B abd 12 HR to go with 43 RBI. System POTY Isan Diaz went to the plate 450 times to hit 21 2B, 2 3B and 26 HR with 70 RBI. His OPS was .973.

Adjusted to the same number of trips to the plate that Diaz had, Alvarez' AAA totals were 29 2B, 4 3B and 19 HR to go with 69 RBI. In other words, the two were darn near identical, although Alvarez was also a base stealer. None the less, Diaz was described as "absolutely tearing up AAA" while Alvarez worked in obscurity.

I'd love to see Alvarez get a chance to play in Miami this season. At the least, I would like to see him compete for the SS job in spring training. I think he'd bring more offense to the table than Rojas. He would also serve as another Berti type guy ... exciting to watch. Of additional note, Berti scored as many runs as Rojas last year, ln 240 FEWER plate appearances. Speed plays.

          • Why not?

            He’s only 30 years old.

A year younger than Rojas and a far better athlete. Jeter's stated goal was for the team to be more "athletic." Alvarez would also be an instant fan favorite and attraction: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...ot/2149311001/

                • Alvarez had just as good a season as Diaz if you project and give him double the ABs, because that's how baseball works. Dont look at any other factor except what a player has done in his last 200 ABs. That's how you evaluate players.

The fact that Alvarez accomplished what he did after missing the first two months of the 2019 season with a broken hammate bone made his success all the more notable.

It's worth noting. It's not worth putting him on the 40-man roster. You gotta manage your expectations with these 30-year old AAA players. Best case scenario for Alvarez is he gets a shot at some point this season and becomes 2020's Jon Berti. Which will be a little tougher considering Jon Berti is already on the roster.

Alvarez would not only be on my 40-man - he'd be on my 26-man. Good bye Brinson and Sierra.

So would Ben Meyer, heinemann, and every other old aaa player hitting well in a hitters league until they struggle for 10 abs and then you never mention them again

seriously, how do you not realize what youre doing yet? You are overrating guys consistently because they are hitting in a hitters paradise league in the PCL as 28-30 year olds. It's absurd at this point that you dont realize how ridiculous you sound.

                              • True or False? Jon Berti was the most entertaining Marlin to watch last season.

Whether he was 21 or 41, he played with more hustle than anyone else. The fact that he worked until age 29 to fulfill his potential made him all the more impressive to me. I see the same story brewing with Eddy Alvarez. I predict he will be the biggest Marlins story in spring training. I'm proud to be the only person in the world to believe that.
