    • Not sure if someone else has mentioned, but what about Austin Hays? He's on Baltimore if that doesn't ring a bell as not a larger name.

He can play CF for sure. He has pop, but the bat is arguably skeptical so some risk. Still - defensive floor and at minimum he's probably a valuable backup 4th OF. They also have Cole Sulser. Those two had a combined 3.9 WAR last year and are controlled forever. They are projecting this year closer to 2.5 WAR.

Hayes can't be considered for Watson/Eury/Meyer/Cabrera/Bleday.....but Sixto, Burdick/Salas, Lewis/Jerar, and DLC?

2.5-3.9 WAR is a massive upgrade when we're talking they replace DLC and Yacabonis/Yoan Lopez on the roster. That's 2-3 wins.

This also doesn't add payroll. So they are sitting at maybe $78 million with them with Cooper and Aguilar.

Why not DFA Aguilar..... and then get Kiermaier. Payroll is low $80s. I think that may add another win over Aguilar for superior OF defense, and I think Cooper/Soler/Anderson/Wendle absorb PA in the IF/DH so not really anything is lost with Aguilar. Lewin is a fine injury replacement here also.

      Stallings, Fortes
      Cooper (Anderson)
      Jazz
      Rojas, Berti
      Anderson, Wendle
      Sanchez,
      Hayes, Kiermaier
      Garcia
      Soler

      Sandy, Rogers, Lopez, Hernandez, Luzardo
Bender, Floro, Sulser, Cabrera, Pop, Head
      Okert, Bleier

This is barely over $80m, every single major propsect is left besides Sixto and Salas/Burdick, and the team has -0- free agents, except a potential Soler opt-out

It's not Reynolds... but this works?

      • Aguilar .801 career OPS. Soler is less than that.
Aguilar plays solid defense. Soler does not.
And you want to DFA Aguilar after throwing $36M at Soler?

        • I gotta agree with Lee on this one. I don't see Soler as any type of upgrade over Aguilar. They are very similar hitters. Aguilar with a little bit better average, Soler a little more power. You can't tell me that with the Universal DH we couldn't get a decent prospect for Aguilar.

          • The guy you couldn't get a decent prospect for is Soler. You'd have to pay another team several million just to take his new contract. Horrible decision by Marlin brass/ownership.

And what's wrong with Lebron (DLC)? He looks comparable to Austin Hayes. I never once thought he hurt the team when he was in CF last season. And Salas, someone you'd include in a trade for Hayes, should be on the untouchable list with Watson, Perez, Lewis and Eder.

            • The last piece of Derek Jeter’s legacy (the Yelich trade) is gone. Isan Diaz DFA’d

De La Cruz is going to be the latest guy that you anoint as your favorite and never speak of again once he struggles this year. He's a 5th OF and he had an unsustainable BABIP which is why you saw his numbers start to dip at the end of the year. He's not that good. Fun guy to watch and to root for, but he's a 4th OF at best.

Let's not split hairs on .796 versus .801 career OPS ok? If we also want to discuss more recently, their 3 year splits are 4 WAR for Soler and 1.7 WAR for Aguilar. Aguilar has never displayed Soler's 2019/post-2021 (2018 was very close but not all the way there). Aguilar is also not a good defender. Neither is Soler, but defense isn't moving this needle. I can accept you don't believe in Soler, he is very risky, but one is clearly better than the other.

And I want to DFA/trade Aguilar/Cooper to free up MONEY to get a CF. I have no beef with Aguilar/Cooper. They are solid guys, especially at their price point.

DLC had a .380 BABIP and was atrocious CF last year. He may be a corner backup if he can hit for average. Very low ceiling. He's a Harold Ramirez valued player.

You have to give up value to get value Lee. Hayes is a cheaper option and was really good last year. Someone we like would have to go for him. Especially with Sulser - they had a 3.9 WAR last year combined. It's a potential idea. Something has got to give in CF.

                      • What is better:

                        Aguilar
                        DLC
                        Retaining all prospects
                        Extra $3m

Aguilar/DLC had 2 WAR last year (roughly 725 PA)

                        or

                        Hayes (4 years control)
Sulser (4 years control, but is 32)
                        Kiermaier (1 + option)
Losing call it Sixto, Salas/Burdick, Lewis/Jerar, or DLC
(Add a prospect for Aguilar if able to trade)
(This costs about $3+m more depending on if Rays eat some money)

Hayes/Sulser/KK had a combined 6.4 WAR last year (over 900 PA plus Sulser RP innings)

This seems easy to me and preserves the core prospects.

                        • as far as soler and aguilar, Soler has more value, but he is also more of a fluctuating player in terms of performance. He can be one of the best bats in the league as he's shown, or he can be prone to months of bad production. We shall see what he gives us after playing well for the braves down the stretch, but he's definitely the better player overall.

                          • probably nothing but spring training details, but cooper and Anderson were in the spring lineup for today and have subsequently been taken out just 20 minutes before first pitch. Could be trade, but could also just be minor injury or rest so we'll see if anything comes of that.

Mish says it is due to arbitration hearings.

                            • losing isan isnt gonna hurt anything, but why him instead of Berti? Berti will not be on this team to start the year and Isan has a better ceiling. No one would claim berti either.

                              • arbitration deadline is coming up. Floro got 3 million, elieser got 1.3 million. Bleier got a great deal for both sides.
