  • anderson gets 4.475 million. Aguilar, Wendle, Cooper, Stallings, Pablo, and Berti look headed to arbitration hearings, meaning their final salaries wont be known until sometime during the year.

Berti is probably making the team. They need 2 middle infielder backups and his competition is basically Devers, Brigman, and I guess we can say Astudillo can play 2B/3B in a pinch.

He also plays CF which as of this moment, is an issue.

      • Luzardo looking very good. 3 perfect innings so far. Sitting 98-99 with the fastball. Slider's been a little inconsistent but when he's thrown good ones they've been devastating.

Why do they need 2 middle infield backups? Jazz and Rojas can play SS/2b and Wendle can play all over. I think they keep an extra 1b (lewin) or outfielder if another one is added.

          • this pitching depth is no joke. Nothing but 0's for every starter so far. And not just good numbers, they are all looking pretty filthy.

If we don't get a CF, Wendle is playing every day pretty much.

He's going to be playing somewhere every day. I think whatever move they make prior to opening day will address this anyways, but I just don't see why you keep berti instead of isan diaz.

Because he's been a productive major leaguer unlike Diaz and plays SS and CF when Diaz doesn't and our current starting SS and CF are Rojas and ???.

                  • Imagine getting rid of Berti so you can keep Isan Diaz.

I see 400-450 PA with or without a CF. Absent major injuries also.

                      C- Stallings
                      1B - Aguilar
                      2B - Jazz
                      SS - Rojas
                      3B - Anderson
                      LF - Cooper
                      CF - Sanchez
                      RF - Garcia
                      DH - Soler

B - Fortes, Wendle, Berti, DLC.

So Wendle plays by stealing a game a week from Aguilar, Cooper, and off days for Jazz, Rojas, Anderson, Sanchez, Garcia, and Soler. Maybe that's 2 a week to keep everyone fresh for the later. So Wendle probably finds 4 games a week. Frankly, I don't see Berti and DLC playing at all here. Fleeting time absent injuries.

Replace Aguilar/Cooper with a CF, and Wendle plays the same amount. Just saying, this isn't CF dependent.

I don't know how to answer this. You need 2 middle infield backups?

Jazz and Rojas are starters. If any one of Anderson/Wendle get hurt, you start immediately thinking about putting Aguilar at 3B if anything happens. That's a disaster. This is arguably less important without pitchers hitting/double switches (RIP), but you can't hang the roster out to dry with just a single backup - and as noted above, one who may be starting 4+ times a week. Also, Lewin will NEVER play with this roster. Let him hit every day.

Berti has to beat out Astudillo and Devers. This is the 13th bat. An infielder.

The real issue is Cooper/Aguilar redundancy and DLC isn't needed at all unless he can play league average CF. This is how they upgrade. Move these "two" players and get two CF and end the madness once and for all.

This is what they should do IMO:

                        Stallings, Fortes
                        Aguilar/Cooper (Anderson primary backup)
                        Jazz
                        Rojas, Berti
                        Anderson, Wendle
                        Sanchez, Soler
                        _______, _______
                        Garcia

Which isn't unreasonable at all for them to ask?

Yeah I would think they would at least need both of them and maybe a lower tier guy.

They mentioned in yesterday's radio broadcast that they've told Cooper that he's not playing OF this year and that he should focus on 1st base and DH. I foresee a lot of Wendle-3B Anderson-LF
