  • Looks to me like Lorenzo Quintana is best bet to back up Stallings to start the season. I like it. Quintana is old but had solid numbers for the Big Shrimp last season.

      • Quinn isn’t on the 40-man and neither is DeShields.

can’t see them also opening a 40 man spot for Lorenzo Quintana, but the dude can hit.

        • what is quintana's story? He's 33 but has only been playing minor league ball since 2018. His numbers look like he can really hit.

I was sitting next to a Dad and his sons yesterday about 4 rows behind the Marlins dugout.

Quintana waved to them and smiled after he walked from 3B into the dugout (after a nice piece of hitting). Quintana also spoke to them at great length after the game.

So I ended up taking to the Dad briefly.

Quintana gives hitting lessons to his sons. He said Quintana has told the Marlins that if he doesn’t make the team he’s moving on from pro baseball. Who knows if that’s true.

Would be nice for a team that needs offense to have a back up catcher that can hit.

You had a beautiful day to attend with your sons and the Marlins provided more entertainment than usual.

Question: Having watched Rogers pitch live, were you struck by how effortless his delivery seems to be? Just looks like he's tossing catch. Should be immune to injury.

This is going to sound weird but people who had seats in the sun like us yesterday will agree: it was uncomfortably hot at Roger Dean yesterday. And we dealt with a swarm of love bugs for about 45 minutes. It was bizarre. Yet my phone told me the Feels Like Temp was 73.

With that said, the cheesesteaks and ice cream we ate far exceeded my expectations and obviously the baseball was highly entertaining for Marlins fans. Overall, though, Ballpark of the America’s (I think it’s called that) where the Astros and Nats play is a much better fan experience. We got to Roger Dean 90 minutes before 1st pitch yesterday to watch BP and all of it took place on other fields (unlike the Astros facility in West Palm).

Rogers delivery is very effortless. Up close he is a massive human. Marlins would be smart to “Sandy” him soon.

For anyone that’s interested here’s who interacted with fans yesterday (big Marlins names):

                Pablo

                That’s the list.

I’m assuming this is Covid related. It was a very different experience than two years ago for my sons.

If all goes to plan this will ideally happen for Rogers, Pablo, Luzardo, Jazz, and J. Sanchez, as well as a shorter-term (3 years) healthy Anderson extension.

                  • late listening to the most recent mish podcast and a few things were of note
1- Meyer is a stud and he knows it. says he has not seen the type of confidence from someone so young
2- Concerned about the bullpen, rightfully so. Unlikely they move meyer to the pen unless it is a late season move to bolster the pen with a young arm they are looking to limit innings on.
3- name marlins people are high on as a future bullpen arm- will stewart. They liked him when they dealt for him and his lack of results as a starter haven't deterred them.
4- marlins are also very high on luzardo. Mish says he wants to see it in the big leagues but he says its almost a sure thing that the rotation to start the year is Sandy, Pablo, Rogers, Elieser, and Luzardo. I doubt they move cabrera to the bullpen to start the year so him and Meyer are going to start in AAA and fill in for injuries.

That was meant for after this year. Hopefully after this year it makes sense to buy-out Rogers, Pablo, Luzardo, Jazz, and J. Sanchez.... and maybe Anderson with a smaller deal as he's a little older. Rogers/Luzardo/Sanchez/Jazz likely wouldn't get Sandy money (maybe Rogers) even if they are fantastic this year. Pablo could get over it as he has less control.

A lot of beneficial money deals to be made here if the players all perform. They have historically dealt with arbitration deals after 3 years of control, but it would be smart for them to consider some of these after 2 years if the guy is good. That's all I'm saying. We'll see. Probably only 1-2 of them are total studs this year so it'll be an easier decision.

No Floro or Cabrera (or Sixto) in the bullpen is a problem.

Bender, Bass, Pop, Head, Yacabonis, and god knows is pretty weak. Get Floro and Cabrera in there and it changes pretty quickly. If there is some injury issues, they need to do a CF/RP deal with Oak, Bal, or Pitt. It's just that easy.

If they always intended to send Cabrera to the minors, yes. They should have gotten someone. But Floro, Bender, Cabrera, Pop, Head/Sixto, and Bass/Head/Camp Competition, Bleier, and Okert/Camp competition is good enough for me on paper. Take 3 of them away now, and it's an issue for sure absent another Bender revelation.

Also, Luzardo is probably going to be good. I've been saying this since September when he started figuring it out and had 2 dominant performances, and now he's throwing harder. - https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/buy-th...ocity-surgers/

                              • completely agree they need another arm or 2, but cabrera should absolutely not be it unless its later in the year and they are trying to limit his innings without shutting him down completely. Just because they made a mistake by not getting an arm (yet) doesn't mean they should compound the issue by throwing cabrera in the bullpen and taking away from his development as a starter. He needs to build his innings, not cover for the front offices mistake by holding back his development. If we're in the race come deadline time and we still need an arm, I can be ok with that, but to make him a full time reliever this year when he's so young is just compounding a mistake. They will make this moot I think by going and picking up an arm anyways. They already did that with 1 reliever they got from the cubs who apparently has a really good curveball (but bad results in the majors last year).
