And it's not like it was thought of as some amazing return package at the time either. Three position players, all of whom with the near consensus opinion of "ability to hit is questionable"(with Diaz and Brinson both further having their defensive ability questioned) and a pitcher who no one really knew where to project(is he a backend starter? Reliever? Organizational filler?).
They seem to have literally jumped at the first offer that came their way just to get the small amount of money(relative) Yelich was due off the books.
It's about "sustainability" not winning....you guys gotta listen to Jeter...he never says "winning franchise" but a "sustainable: one....it's about getting the team to profitability

i just wish they stopped after the stanton trade and rode with Yelich and JT. Having Yelich right now would make this a drastically different situation. I get why they did it and it doesnt look good right now but ill give it some more time. I still like almost every other move but just would have loved to see Yelich, JT, and this pitching. In hindsight they should have stopped afrer the Ozuna, Dee, and Stanton trades.

The problem is Sherman doesn't have the no-how to step in & tell Jeter he fucked up & order him to move on & not waste more time.
It's turned into a Beinfest trap like Hermida, Allison & Skipworth, where those guys were given year after year of chances & because it hurt Beinfests pride that he made HORRENDOUS picks his ego never let him get rid of them, hoping beyond hope that one day things would click for them, and his reputation would be restored.

I still think Brinson turns out to be a regular and same with Diaz and Monte and Yamamoto will at least be a middle relief type guy so i dont think its horrendous like the Cabrera deal but watching Yelich is just painful. He is just so fucking good.
ML 2B
ML CF
ML 4th OF
ML RP
for 1 guy.
Was it a bad trade? Probably but they got exactly what they wanted.
They asked Toronto for Vlad Jr straight up and were talking Yelich and salary(Prado) for Bo and minor pieces but wanted more ML guys then just 1 so took the Milwaukee deal.Last edited by tjfla; 04-16-2019, 12:52 PM.

We're at least 20 WAR away right now from a disaster of a trade, and that's getting a 2 WAR starter with one of them, a solid 1 WAR platoon/backup for another, and some fleeting contributions from the other 2. And that just moves us to "disaster" instead of "complete disaster."

They will need to get 30 WAR out of the 4 of them through their club controlled years to break even.
