The game yesterday was pretty cool. Good crowd, fun game, good food. I ended up paying less than $8 for each ticket and you get a bunch of free events/stuff so it's worth it.

If Jeter/Sherman want their dwindling fan base to enjoy their ballpark experience, don’t shit all over them by keeping Chen on the team. Losing the game wasn’t the worst. It’s just that every Marlins fan a(all 2,000 of them) in the ballpark knew that the game was over when Chen came in.

Release him and put someone else on the roster.

I agree with you. There's no way they can keep Chen. Just DFA him and out of sight out of mind just like it was with Tazawa and Volquez.

This is a test for Jeter, A REAL TEST. I heard someone said Jeter's contract is related to "sustainability" (which means not winning but profitability). If this is really the aim, they can lose and still be profitable if they keep the payroll to almost nothing.

This scares me.....how do we KNOW they will ever spend money ?

          • So give the guy 40 Million to leave and still lose?? The thought is keep Chen around for THIS year to pick in blow outs and IF needed. Now next year he is DFA in Feb 2020

I will say there is some talk in FO that he will be on 60 Day IL or DFA in June when Ferrell and Fernandez have to be on the roster but nothing confirmed yet

Ya trade from pitching depth for ANOTHER OF. The last things we need starting 2020 is OF and RP. Even SP is pretty solid(We will have about 10 solid SP in AA and above by next year)

We got 22/23 yr old RP in Ex ST because no spots
We got Bradshaw and Milton Smith in Ex ST because no spots
We got solid arms in Clinton who are stuck because no SP spots open

This is BEFORE we trade Castro,Walker,Grandy,Rojas,Prado,Romo,Steck,Conley (all on market) and the draft

The negatives are obviously they can't keep running Chen out there like this it's not fair to anyone. It also seemsl like a full reset for Lew Brinson is needed. 1-17 with 11 K smells like 2018 again. Send him to the best hitting coach they have in AA or AAA and help him.

Agree with Mish. Brinson's approach is fully messed up. Trying to yank/pull everything. And his defense has always seemed borderline. He's the only pro CF that doesn't catch the towering McCutchen can o' corn in the 14th.

If you believe in rewarding achievement, Isaac Galloway is a viable option to Brinson (or Herrera) right now. He's hitting homers and doubles and stealing bases.

              What? Galloway? Yes, Galloway.

I knew it was coming and I actually agree with you on Galloway, he was fine as a 4th OF'er in his short time with the club last year and I think he could stick in the league as a 4th OF'er for a couple of years.

I don't know what you do with Brinson at this point, is there someone at AA or AAA that he hasn't already talked to? Is it better to have him keep working with the people you have at the majors? I'm of a mind to keep letting him try to work it out at the big league level, he's 25-years old, you gotta learn to hit at the bigs at some point, and for him I think it's gotta be now.

In my eyes the problem is not learning how to hit, he can do that. The problem is that he got to a bunch of 3-2 counts and 80% of that 3rd strike is out of the zone and he stills chases. If he wasn't so aggressive and chased that strike 3 all the time he would get better pitches to hit.

Last game they walked Wallach twice to get to Brinson. Hitting 8th doesn't help either.

                  • With a .577 OPS in 2018, Brinson was right at the bottom of all MLB hitters. It seemed that there was nowhere to go but up. This year he is at .518.

In limited exposure to the majors, Galloway's OPS was .692. However, it's sitting at 1.119 right now at New Orleans. If any team can afford to shuffle things up, it would be Miami.

                    Nice turnaround by Urena yesterday.

Stop it. I was at the game. That was absolutely not a can o corn.

Also, Brinson, because he is so fast and has big strides, makes a lot of catches that Kevin Pillar would dive for look easy.

Brinson’s approach at the plate is clearly terrible right now. It looks like his swing is already halfway finished before the pitcher has released the ball.

                      • Id like to see Brinson go down and just let him dominate AAA for a few weeks and get some confidence and mechanics back in order

Not just "right now". It's always been bad. His ability to hit at the MLB level has always been described as "eh, he probably wont hit or draw walks and he will strike out a ton but he's got a lot of power so in the rare instances when he makes contact it has a good chance to be hit hard".

                          • How do you get a guy to stop chasing breaking balls out of the zone? That's the only thing that's going to "fix" Brinson.

                            • It's amazing how bad the return for Yelich was considering his age and club friendly contract.

And it's not like it was thought of as some amazing return package at the time either. Three position players, all of whom with the near consensus opinion of "ability to hit is questionable"(with Diaz and Brinson both further having their defensive ability questioned) and a pitcher who no one really knew where to project(is he a backend starter? Reliever? Organizational filler?).

They seem to have literally jumped at the first offer that came their way just to get the small amount of money(relative) Yelich was due off the books.
