Well 1 million was number in April but probably started getting better offers. Its not like we can't afford it and he is still linked to us-would rather have us pay a guy 3 million instead of trading the cash or overpaying guys who can't get out of DSL

Also says "COULD" but I would listen to BA since they usually have up to date info

    • The Miami herald putting up a paywall now is incredibly annoying. As much as Barry Jackson hated on the marlins irrationally last winter he still is one of the few writers around the team with good coverage of the team.

      • The writers need to make money too?

          • Straily and Mattingly suspended. What the hell is going on? Why is it ok for Rodriguez to clearly hit our guy on purpose, for what celebrating a game tying hit? In the previous game, their pitcher acts like a fool as he leaves the field and then in the clubhouse. So both teams get warned after the HBP, although 1 team has done nothing wrong yet. The team that hasn't done anything wrong yet retaliates, and not only does their pitcher and manager get thrown our of the game. They get suspended as well. Things aren't adding up to me.

That shit is so stupid. Someone is going to get seriously hurt one of these days getting hit in retaliation. Its obvious how to eradicate this shit from the game. Make the suspensions huge, and multiply the SP's suspensions by 5. This is essentially not a suspension for Straily, his start just gets pushed back a day. IF that was 30 games and he actually missed 5 legit starts, this shit would stop happening. Baseball and its unwritten rules is the most mindbogglingly stupid thing ive ever seen in sports.

              • I have no problem with Straily getting suspended, but the fact that the Giants came out of this completely unscathed (well the Strickland thing was self-inflicted) when they were the clear instigators, just makes no sense to me.

Agreed, they started the conflict with strickland being a douche, continued it first the next night hitting brinson, then the marlins retaliate and we are the only one with a suspension?

                  • Heyman says Cleveland is interested in Steck and Bearclaw. Doubtful unless they trade Mejia or McKenzie but teams are lining up!!!

                    • With the cardinals bullpen issues and Molina still going strong a Carson Kelly for bearclaw makes a ton of sense

But we already have a Catcher we don't need Kelly!!!

                        • I think I'd be disappointed if Carson Kelly was the catcher of the future. I think we could do better for Barraclough.

I'd stay away from dealing with the cardinals completely.

                          • If Cleveland offered Mejia/Bradley OR Benson and another 1/2 guys I would listen for either RP

Mejia can hit and is #1 C Prospect
Bradley and Benson are 1B POWER bats with below average contact

Doubtful they would but that is what it would take!!! Also no sense that Steck is on block

not this convo again! But getting him to me would just be dependent on our belief that we couldnt sign JT long term. I havent even seen what Kelly has done this year i was just saying fit wise it makes sense for both teams.

Ya, Steckenrider and wittgren are the 2 keepers in this bullpen for me. Everyone else can go.

This next month is huge for our future in a low key way in terms of our guys either building or losing value. Bearclaw keeping this up for another month and getting another 5-10 saves would almost certainly guarantee us a top 100 prospect for him which would be a great value for a reliever, even one who is good like Bearclaw.

Dietrich has been great since May 1 and another month like this could build some decent value. 2-3 decent prospects for him or 1 good one.
Castro has no value to me. Just isnt that good and isnt affordable. I'd wait until the offseason and hope that Diaz is ready to start next year.

Bour, Straily, and Urena all could have good value as well. I'm interested to see just how much they sell off at the deadline. I dont think i go full tear down and trade everyone but definitely not quiet. I 100% trade Bearclaw, Dietrich, Ziegler and possibly trade Bour and JT if he isnt willing to re-sign long term. To me I keep this rotation through the end of the year, possibly into spring, and then if we have more than 5 options you can trade some of them and add to the rest of the team smartly utilizing SP depth.

                              • Castro's gotta go, right? I know you guys have talked about how teams won't want to pay him the money, but I feel like I'm getting Dee Gordon flashbacks. After this year he makes $11 mil next year and then has a $1 mil buyout. 1 year $12 million for a solid 29-year old starting second baseman does not seem like overpaying to me.
