  • another day, another 0-6 from the 2 black holes at the end of the lineup. Wendle goes 0-13 in the series, Stallings goes 0-6, Fortes goes 1-5. 1-24 combined. The same thing every fucking game all year.

      • I was absolutely done with Jean Segura. Thankfully the organization was done with him too.

I wasn’t exactly 100% done with Garrett Cooper but didn’t understand the fit on the team for a few years. Absolutely okay with having him gone.

Joey Wendle should absolutely be next.

I’m done with him and I want Xavier Edwards called up, not Hampson.

I don’t care if Edwards can play SS. He played it in high school, that’s good enough for me. Check and see if he has a future somewhere. Wendle does nothing for our future and does nothing for us now either.

We’re already sacrificing one automatic out at catcher every game and saying it’s because of how they handle the pitching staff. Fine, but you can’t have two automatic outs.

Call up Edwards. If anything, let Berti play too (I don’t believe he’s an every day guy, but whatever), and make Edwards a utility guy who plays all over.

Or call up Dane Myers again to play CF and move Jazz back to SS.

I really don’t care anymore, Joey Wendle does nothing for this organization.

Stallings at least has hit a few balls pretty hard right at people (or a good catch last night) recently. Wendle is just lost/an auto ground out.

I think it would be Hampson or Amaya in a 50/50 timeshare with Berti. If you think Edwards can out perform Yuli, that's where he would fit in.

I think I'd go with the kids over Wendle and Yuli so why not replace both and see if Edwards and Amaya can hack it. Gives them endless lineup options TBH.

            • i will die on the hill that wendle would have been cut loose months ago if he wore batting gloves.

                Only ~15 years :p

But yeah, I'm happy with the deals. Not just about making us better this year, but future too. Does suck how many holes there still is, but they are at least generally hard to fill positions. Somehow we aren't even the worst C team in baseball lol

                • mish said in his latest piece that the burger talks came from the marlins originally being interested in lynn. Said many scouts think Fulton and Meyer have higher ceilings than Eder but that teams couldnt really scout those 2 because they were injured, so eder was the logical choice to trade.

Cabrera drew a ton of interest to the point that smeltzer has apparently been with the team all week.

Candelario was a big target but they felt the price was too high for a free agent to be.

I didnt realize we were paying the rest of Coopers salary.

Eury is likely to return when we play the yankees next week.

Apparently they tried to get Justin Turner from the Red Sox, but pivoted after the Red Sox changed their mind and got Bell instead.

this season would have been so much different had Turner signed here when they were interested in him in the offseason. Instead he went to boston and we turned to Segura.

                      • Fangraphs dropped Eder to a FV45 with a velocity drop.

Sounds like a reliever projection is coming for him. Great move if this is true.

                        • If Burger hadn't hurt his Achilles he likely would have been a good candidate to convert to catcher. Typical size, decently athletic, best tool outside of raw power is his good arm

                            I wasn’t implying he shouldn’t get optioned.

But he was clearly brought up to face the Phillies specifically for match up reasons and it worked out phenomenally.

                            • Good, Bad and Ugly.

The good: Troy Johnston is looking awesome at first base, showing all around developing talent. In addition to great and consistent hitting numbers, he has stolen 16 bases in 17 tries. X Edwards has been consistently great every month of the season and has added CF to his repertoire. Dane Myers had a painful blip in his last six or seven Marlin starts, but looks very promising.

The bad: Josh Bell has hit no better than Garrett Cooper this season, and will make $17 million next season. Marlins will also pay him for the rest of this year. He has disappointed in both San Diego and Cleveland over the last twelve months and it seemed impossible that the Guardians could have unloaded that absurd contract. Worse yet, he is now in Johnston's way and cost the Marlins Watson, who is now starting to show some wallop at the plate. David Robertson cost prospects that would have ranked highly in the farm system in 2024 - a steal for the Mets.

The ugly. Jake Burger for Zac Gallen ... or make that Jake Eder. Coming off a long layoff, Eder was showing exactly what the Marlins should have hoped for: huge and rapid improvement. His last start for Pensacola was awesome. Jake Burger logged an awful .616 OPS away from his home field in Chicago this season, establishing a standard the Marlins can anticipate. He can't run or field for shit. This trade was criminal.

No team does business as poorly as the Marlins. As I understand it, the Marlins are paying Cooper's salary for the rest of season - making all those fans who wanted the Marlins to spend very happy. Ryan Weathers gave up 18 runs over his last 15 innings for San Diego. He's not a sleeper, or even a yawner. He's a groaner.

He definitely was not brought up specifically for the Phillies he was brought up specifically as a guy who could give multiple innings the day after we used almost our entire bullpen. Garrett goes 7 innings the day before and the game doesn’t go 12 innings Smeltzer doesn’t get called up.
