morosi reporting we are trade partners with the cardinals today. Skip knows their bats obviously. Seems like we've traded or talked with the same 5 teams since this regime took over. Cardinals, Yankees, Rays, Mets, Blue Jays and A's

i wonder if they are going to try for Goldschmidt. one of the middle infielders seems more likely but i havent heard as much of Goldschmidt being unavailable as we have regarding Arenado. Would be the perfect addition through next year. Eder and Cabrera? Eder and Rogers +? Cant imagine rogers has much value but they want pitching so eder would be the guy to go.

Morosi further says that the names the Cardinals have been most engaged on are Dejong, Burleson, and Carlson. Edman is unclear because he is on the IL. None of those 3 would do much for me if they are the main piece coming. Nootbar, yes. Give them Eder and Rogers for him and use Sanchez for another piece i guess?

gorman, dejong, and flaherty sounds like something they would try. I would love Gorman and Edman though. Move Arraez to 1b, Gorman to 2b, and Edman at SS and hope Segura stops trying to hit baseballs with 1 knee on the ground. Rogers, Eder, and then whatever other pitchers they want. That's a deal i would include Cabrera in, but im not sure he is available. Dejong doesnt do much for me though. He is a slight upgrade on Wendle and has some pop i guess, but that doesnt move the needle for me. Edman does. Same with Brendan Donovan

even till now, while they havent come out and said he isnt available like they have done for arenado, there isnt a single rumor of goldschmidt being available. They are going to be good next year, they will run it back, get some pitching, and win the central again next year with a new manager.

Carlson, DeJong, Flaherty, Gallegos, Knizner, for
x
Rogers/Eder, Fulton, Mesa Jr./FV40, Fitterer/FV40, and Pushard/FV40
I think they'd be really interested in that. It's a question of, do we believe Carlson is just having a down year and 2021-2022 is the baseline (2.5+ WAR). He's 24 so worth a bet to me as that is what Rogers off injury and Eder are anyways. Fulton effectively is for Gallegos there, and everyone else is a collection of FV40s for salary dumps. Maybe there is another throw in (Peguero/Gerardo/18year old) on top but not much more is really needed there IMO. Cardinals don't need any of those guys to take two SP and multiple bench/RP bets. Chargois could even be in that deal TBH.
I'm not sure if that moves the needle enough for 2023, but it would be an improvement and give them a chance for sure. Maybe one more rental bat on top would be beneficial, maybe that 1B upgrade they seem to be thinking about. Josh Bell and absorb money? Take a bet on him?
And it would set up 2024 for 3-4 players. Carlson and Gallegos aren't that expensive, so they'd probably have $15-20m to spend here. You can easily see them going Garcia or club controlled for that last bat, so that's $15-20m on an innings eater, platoon SS or better, and then probably a best stick. And if Bruce authorizes $120m, that $15-20m expectation moves to $35-40m to spend on 3 players and now we're talking thinking about getting a $18-20m/year bat, and two more $7-10m annual players. And they could open up a little money moving one of Scott/Okert on top of this which is very doable with their arm depth.
2024:
Fortes, Knizner
Arraez
Edwards
_____, Amaya/Nasim/_____
Berti, Segura
Jazz, DLC
Carlson
Sanchez
13th - Garcia/Myers/Burdick/Johnston________
Sandy, Eury, Cabrera, _______ (Meyer, will be rehabbed a bit)
Luzardo, Garrett, Eder (Monteverde)
Gallegos, Lopez .... with a ton of reliever arms (Bender, Soriano, Brazoban, Reynolds, Maldonado)
Scott, Puk, Okert, Nardi
The now and later trade. LFG Kim. All these Cardinals guys are good and we can do this for all of them.

Carlson and Dejong, 2 guys having mediocre hitting seasons, as your main additions today does not do much for their playoff chances. I would need Gorman and/or Edman/Donovan. Carlson and Dejong arent great hitters. Their lineup would still be ass.
Give me Gorman, Edman, and then go eat Grandal's salary and get his better bat behind the plate as well. Gallegos i would go for though.
