I was literally just thinking that greinke and perez would make a ton of sense for us. I doubt they’d do that to the guys who have been probably their two best players this century though

Especially perez. At least as far as instant impact is concerned. That contract is a little scary though for an older catcher. Grandal definitely makes more sense as a pending free agent

Arraez is absurd. To have a .946 ops on June 5th with just a single home run to this point is crazy. What is the highest ops in history for a guy with say 5 homers or fewer

What a stat, Arraez has more multi hit games in his career than strikeouts total. Just the best pure hitter in baseball. That bat plays at any position too if he is this good. I don’t care about the lack of homers

this is why you don’t hoard prospects. I thought the talk of giving up too much because we included salas was ridiculous. You don’t hoard a level prospects for proven major leaguers still under team control. Go back and look at top prospect lists, the vast majority do not pan out.

Perez makes 2/$44m after this year. That is really tough for age 34 and 35 years for a catcher. I wouldn't give them Fulton or Watson to absorb that money (plus 2023 money). I'd give like R. Hernandez, Sixto, and Ian Lewis and tell them good luck. Flyer prospects. Perez can still hit (defense is lagging and I think this organization values defense there), but he is relatively worthless with that contract so I don't see any top 15 prospect going back.

I would however, give them Fulton, Watson, Avisail Garcia, and two more FV40 guys for Perez and Greinke though. I think it's unlikely they'd move him, but they have to net off the Perez money and Garcia fits that bill for sure to give them a better prospect package. I also definitely like the idea of getting a veteran SP to soften the blow of moving a major young SP for a more impact bat. Greinke fits the bill big time.

Big picture, I think the best/most realistic catcher option is Elias Diaz. He plays a bit of defense, has a good K rate, and shouldn't break the bank. Would be a sneaky solid upgrade.

Also, I swear to god if Garcia returns and they do anything other than maybe let him get a pinch hit opportunity every once in a while I’m gonna lose it. Dlc and Sanchez need to play every day

Wendle has played really well over the last month. Still could use an upgrade but he’s coming around. If we can just get segura going we can really rattle off some wins

With regard to recent trade ideas here, veteran catcher Elias Diaz from Colorado works for me. Excellent bat this season and 32% on caught stealing rate, far better than Stallings measly 7%. He's at $5.5m this year and $6 next year and done, perfect for a 33 year old catcher. He has power and is not a prolific whiffer. No reason for Colorado NOT to trade him.

I like a Westburg acquisition from Orioles. He could be the Marlin third baseman for the next five years. His value on baseball trade site is $18m. Braxton Garrett is at about $23m. Close enough for me. (Just for thought, they list Luzardo at around $27m and Rogers at $33m)

he would be a terrible addition. he is not good. He is in colorado. For his career in over 1800 AB's, he has a .1 WAR. This year his numbers are all from Colorado. He has a 1.042 OPS at home and a .620 OPS on the road in the same number of AB's. He doesnt have power, he is a career .392 slugging percentage, helped tremendously by this years inflated .470 slugging percentage due to Coors field. .634 slugging percentage at home, .300 slugging percentage on the road. Guys dont go from being thoroughly mediocre for 7 years to being good players at age 32. He is benefitting from the ballpark. He's also flatly average defensively. He would be a waste of money and a prospect. Even with this years inflated numbers, he has a career WRC+ of 80, and an OPS+ of 83. Go get a proven guy like Grandal.

Also, stop using that website. It's absurdly bad.

playoff odds up to 47.5% according to fangraphs. Need to win 3/4 out of the game today and the 3 vs the Sox this weekend. Gets you to 8 over, then you have a mediocre mariners team and a nationals team that we really feast on. Things are really coming together. Pitching has been much better, bullpen has been lights out, and it feels like DLC, Arraez, and Soler take turns carrying the offense at times. We havent gotten anything from Jazz yet, and we havent made any trade deadline additions. We might make the playoffs and be legitimately good for the first time in 20 years.

doesnt make it good though. That's still a bad catcher. Just go get an actual legitimate guy who can help the team and take over the catcher position entirely like Grandal. Don't half ass an upgrade, take on 6 million next year that could be put to better use, and give up a decent prospect most likely.
