Hoeing is looking very good. I like his chances of throwing well when he starts next week.

    • tomorrows game should be an awesome pitchers duel with Bieber going against Sandy. might set the record for most combined k's in a game and be over in an hour.

      • interesting stuff from mish yesterday in an interview he did. they asked him some of the names of guys we were looking at in trades that didnt go through. They include guys we've heard about like O'neill, Brendan rodgers for cabrera (we said no), Siri and a guy named jake meyers from the astros, and ryan mountcastle from the orioles.

Neither Bieber nor Alcantara is logging many K's thus far, so this prognostication is probably off. It may be a quick game however. It would be nice to see the minus disappear from in front of Sandy's 2023 WAR (-0.1).

im gonna go ahead and say that their career sample size is probably a better indication of what they are than the last 20 days. Also not sure why there is such a giant discrepancy this early with ESPN and fangraphs, but fangraphs has sandy at .5 WAR. His peripherals are still solid. He will be fine.

Mountcastle is a statcast darling and I floated him + Westburg (a prospect they have 2B/3B) in the offseason about around the time Casas was rumored. Would make a ton of sense if their belief is firm Jazz will be a CF, Arraez a 2B, and Berry a DH for 5+ years (I am assuming extensions). Considering they love DLC and definitely have an analytics type in trades (Arraez, Groshans, Edwards for hit tools, and EV for Sanchez), draft (Burdick smokes baseballs), and floated trades (Santander, Casas, Rodgers), we can put together a target list pretty easily probably.

Teoscar next year (Nick mentioned this as an idea already)

Rhys Hoskins on a buy-low rebound

              A. Bohm, but he's going absolutely nowhere

              Hunter Renfroe

              Mountcastle and Santander

              B. Reynolds

              Nootbar

Old friend J. Naylor (a RHP killer)

              D. Jansen and A. Kirk, but they are going nowhere

Verdugo (someone mentioned him this offseason too)

Cooper and Soler are both on this list if healthy and doing well, and they could just be extended. Cooper may be the best value here as he can't expect more than a good 1 year deal in FA with his injury history. I imagine a good Soler year gets him something in between Drury and J. Bell guaranteed (2/$25-28m sort of thing)

That's a rough list of these corner "bash" types they will probably like, of course we need to see the 2023 stats though. Jake Meyers is interesting for the Astros though.

Just projecting, I can see them signing one of Teoscar/Hoskins/Renfroe/Cooper/Soler to effectively be the DH and maybe someone like Nootbar is a July pitching trade. That still sets them up to needing to find a SS, but that would level out the "corner" players as I do think DLC will be solid and they'll get something out of one of Garcia, Sanchez, Burdick, or Jerar, even in a bench role.

                • Jose Iglesias apparently opted out of his deal despite never appearing for AAA.

My real hope right now is something like..... Minnesota looks fantastic and the Marlins can do something like R. Lewis + Kirilloff for a major win-now trade for them. Call it a healthy Rogers who looks good, Floro, Wendle, and Okert.

                    Fortes, McIntosh/Whoever < --- Mack eventually
Kiriloff (Arraez and Groshans back up) < --- Berry
Arraez, Berti < --- Watson eventually if that pushes Arraez off + I. Lewis
Lewis (Berti and Groshans back up) < --- Watson eventually if that pushes Lewis to OF
Segura, Groshans < --- Cappe top hitting prospect
                    DLC
                    Jazz
Pick 2 of Garcia, Sanchez, Burdick, Jerar, Mangum, Mesa Jr., anyone with a pulse
Soler/Cooper/New DH in FA that doesn't break the bank < --- Or Berry here

We're a solid starter and backup in RF away there from probably being really dangerous with the pitchers. Or Bruce spending money. Lewis and Kiriloff may just absolutely rake soon, but it's worth it to them as they have the bodies already and flags fly forever.

as much as i'd like to see all of those guys pan out, it feels a lot like the Bleday, Monte, Brinson, Isan Diaz, Sierra, core we were all penciling in years ago. Most of those guys are nowhere near the majors and havent done much to instill confidence that they can eventually become big league players. Berry has shown absolutely nothing, Watson had a trainwreck year last year even though i do like his potential, Groshans has shown nothing, Ian Lewis hasnt done much. It's a lot of hoping and praying. Given our history, most of those guys wont come close to panning out.

                      • If we're going to pencil someone in somewhere, xavier edwards should be in at 2b. He looks back to where he was as a top 100 guy prior to last year. He and cappe are the only guys on that entire list really doing anything of note so far this year.

That's just the pipeline, the trick is where is the SS coming from?

Lewis would be the Marlins # 2 prospect today and is a "Meyer" when healthy floor. We love Meyer.

Sure, keep it up. There is room for anyone who wants to become a player. He needs to show some power though.

Nunez or Watson would be the 2 main internal options. I really like Watson still, but he feels 3 years away, and that's if he gets rid of the maturity issues.

Right, so not realistic options any time soon.

Meaning they need someone like Royce Lewis - a play now expendable SS on a contender. The Marlins theoretically could still be a contender moving a SP at the deadline for someone like that if the rest of the pitching holds, etc. Especially with this bullpen as if Soriano and Nardi are actually good, they are in business.
