he's been a decent starting catcher. They keep insisting on playing the worst hitter in baseball way too often.

i agree. Not that any concussion is good, but hopefully he just has a minor concussion or just got his bell rung. That's better than a big shoulder or arm injury.

      • luzardo is quickly becoming ace territory. He is absolutely filthy. He needs to take that next step and start being more efficient with the pitch count and getting deeper into games to go from quality #2 to #1 level guy. They need to sign him to an extension.

        • soler looking like his normal self would be a huge bounceback for us to have. It was fairly expected, but his power bat really helps. He absolutely demolishes balls at times.

            • 7 k's through 4, just 47 pitches. Im super interested to see his next few innings. I want to see him get through 7. All of a sudden the pitching looks much more encouraging than that first turn through. that mets lineup is fucking great at working counts and there are first game jitters, so i expect to see more of this moving forward.

Pump the brakes. He hasn't thrown 10 innings yet.

They should sign him though, and Arraez. Maybe they should wait on Jazz if he is really going to always be hurt.

                • fortes just pulled a double down the line foul and barely missed a home run. our offense is so much better with him in there.

Really the only thing he has to answer for me before I put him in ace territory is if he can stay healthy. His stuff is as good as anybody.

(He'll probably give up 5 runs this inning, now that I'm saying this)

On behalf of everyone - we get it (and no one necessarily disagrees with you he should be playing more - beyond Stallings is probably fine as a backup)

im not basing it off of 10 innings, im basing it on his performance last year, spring, wbc, and his first 2 starts this year. we're getting to a full calendar year of real dominance at times. k/9 and WHIP and FIP indicate this isnt luck, this is a guy throwing complete fucking gas and mowing down hitters every 5 days. As nick said, the only question with him is health, and ill take that risk if we can sign him long term immediately.

the failure to go to robo umps is infuriating. so easy to get games perfect, and yet they refuse in the name of tradition.

I think he needs to show it again. Also I have a personal definition of aces, that there are probably only 10-15 aces in baseball, maybe 15-20 #2s, and then there is a heap of probably 40-60 good # 3 SP after that as it scales up quickly.

It's semantics to an extent, but I think Luzardo is a good # 3 right now with potential to firmly entrench himself into that # 2 category. He needs to throw 180+ innings consistent to get to ace territory. It's like Rogers, you need to show it again.

But boy is this a good start today so far. Oakland fans are going to be devastated when they see Luzardo and Puk toss 200+ insane innings this year.
