Not sure why you feel the need to harp on that comment. We had the clear better starting pitcher starting the game. Nowhere did I say it meant we were going to automatically win the game. It’s yet another blown opportunity

      • Dejong homered early in the giants game today and then drove in the leading run in extras. And we still have wendle at short every fucking night

        • DeJong is barely an upgrade on Wendle. If at all.

Dejong is absolutely an upgrade over wendle. Doesn’t make him good, but he is definitely an upgrade and was available for the minimum. He is just as good if not better defensively and he has pop in his bat. Wendle has brought nothing for 2 years. What would it hurt to do literally anything to mix things up? He is a consistent 0-4, he does nothing but hit weak grounders to short, and he has 0 power in his bat

How could Lugo not have the advantage? He was facing a much weaker lineup than Alcantara.

That’s not what pitching matchup advantage means

pitching advantage means we have the better starting pitcher on the mound and we need to take advantage of that and win the game. not sure how that is slightly controversial in a sandy vs lugo matchup. not even sure what your point is

                    • Congrats to Pablo Lopez. 19 consecutive innings without allowing a run. 3.3 WAR thus far in 2023.

He's definitely an upgrade. Maybe it would get them another game and every game really counts at this point. I don't know why they don't have Amaya up at this point. Or just roll with Hampson against lefties as why not. They could have also picked up Andrus for nothing at the deadline (he's now up to a .8 WAR in 300+ PA which is pretty solid) in the Burger deal. Not huge moves with that kind of move but maybe it would get a game somewhere as that's a much better player than .1 Wendle and -.1 Yuli, whoever you want to replace, etc.

It's what everyone generally agrees, the deadlines moves were good, but they needed something else, even a medium (Grichuk) and low (Andrus) type move to round it out. Plus do the obvious and call up Edwards to hit somewhere which is another upgrade in itself. Garcia, Wendle, and Yuli are BAD.

Thankfully that 4 series stretch is over. They have 26 games against the Nationals, Brewers, Mets, Phillies, and Pirates left (and then 8 super tough ones with Atlanta, LAD, and Tampa, and the Tampa series is lined up Sandy and maybe Luzardo is "back"). This is more manageable than 3 weeks ago, but they will have to absolutely feast on the Nationals, Pirates, Mets, and Brewers in particular IMO. It's going to be tough. They are going to have to play minimum .625 baseball here on out.

Have you been waiting for Arraez WAR to drop to 3.2 to post this?

again with the andrus nonsense? they needed an impact bat at SS. not a glove first no bat SS with 0 power. They already have that. Andrus has been flat out awful offensively all year except for august once they traded away their entire team. dejong isnt great but at least he has pop. Made no sense to not at least try for him, especially when they were reportedly interested in him earlier in the year and in the offseason.

They need any production anywhere right now. The only nonsense is your continued positions of arguing absolutely everything to a fault. The dude has a .8 WAR. Yuli has a -1. WAR. Wendle .1. Andrus is better even if he's mostly a defensive platoon guy, end of story. And it is plausible as they did a trade with that exact team. Dejong is an upgrade too as I said and sure get him too. Frankie says relax. Unless you think Amaya is better than Andrus right now, Andrus would be really welcome today over Wendle. The bar is low here. But yes rinse/repeat, why isn't Turner, Xander, Correa, or Swanson on this team and the problem is Bruce.

Arraez, who I didn't mention or give a thought to, has a 4.6 WAR according to Baseball Reference. I will not cease to be a Pablo fan merely because he was traded.

As you are no doubt aware, however, I preferred the idea of trading high on Alcantara over the winter. He had double or triple the trade value of Lopez at the time and the Marlins needed more than one solid addition to the team.
