  • Brian Anderson has hadobvious injury issues the last few years, but the dude can hit. He’s not a star, but he needs to have an everyday role as a hitter at one position or another. With our lineup issues, a guy who is consistently .800 ops is needed everyday

    • I actually like Luke Williams as a bench guy.

      Tough luck for Miggy there.

      • Mattingly needs to not make the trip back to Miami.

        • It feels unfair to think of this team as a 2 game under .500 team when it’s all against the nats but here we are

Not when you’ve lost as many 1 run games as we did in May and June.

They lost 1 run games to good teams not due to luck but due to a lack of a back end of the bullpen. We are 26-39 against all teams other than the nats. I hope this is for real but everything they have shown indicates it’s not. I hope they prove me wrong though and go on a run this month

              • It’s obvious to me that some of their (MLB leading) 17 one run losses were due to luck (Tanner Scott bad pitch to Phillies with 2 outs and 2 strikes comes to mind).

I’m not saying they’re a true 87 win team (as you predicted in the Spring) but they’re not a true train wreck team like they were in May either.

I guess it depends on your definition of luck. To me, being terrible in 1 run games almost solely due to the front offices refusal to invest a little bit of money into a legit closer doesn't constitute luck. It's not unlucky in my opinion for mediocre relievers to struggle in high leverage situations. Umps blowing calls happens, we were on the receiving end of luck before Avisail Garcia hit his game winning home run last week, but it is not at all unexpected for us to be blowing late inning leads when the front office didn't address the closer position in the offseason, and as a result they have been forcing ok set up men to assume the role as closer. Which is even more infuriating because if they did go out and get a guy like Jansen, we are probably in a wild card spot right now.

I still think this team can make the playoffs if they go out and ship out a prospect or 2 for a good reliable closer, I just don't view the blown leads thus far as luck as opposed to exactly what you could have predicted on opening day with the lack of a closer in the bullpen.

                  • huge game tonight. Sandy can be counted on but let the guy have an easy win for once. go out and score some runs for him. Syndergaard has owned us in his career but hopefully we can light him up a little.

                    • what exactly does brian anderson have to do to be moved up in the lineup and take aguilar's spot? Aguilar has been flatly mediocre all year and Anderson has been very productive when healthy, why is he not getting more ab's in the heart of the order?

                      • Sandy is absolutely filthy again tonight. Can we get this man some damn runs and give him an easier night?

                        • There we go Cooper. It’s always been there and now he’s finally healthy and showing out.

                          • The obp for everyone in our lineup tonight is scary bad. No wonder we can’t score runs. 6 of our starters are under .303 and 4 are under .266

                            • 11 straight starts of at least 7 innings, only 1 game with more than 2 earned runs,7 of the 11 straight with 1 run or less. Sandy is the best pitcher in baseball.

                              • Hopefully sandy can get through the 8th and we can tack on a few more so we don’t have to count on him to go all 9 again. At some point I worry about overworking him even though he has shown no signs of any fatigue and he might just be a ridiculous workhorse
