Fair, but rogers to me just passes the eye test. This isnt some kind of fluke in my opinion. I think his recent dip in performance (you cant even call it struggles) might be due more to teams making adjustments to him after seeing him more and already pitching the 2nd most innings in his career to this point plus coming off the weird pandemic year. I think they either shut him down in early september around 160 innings or find a way to get creative to limit the innings. In my opinion he has already passed sandy in terms of the rotation hierarchy. I just pray we can go into opening day next year healthy and get the 5 man elite rotation we've been talking about for a year or so now with Sixto, Sandy, Rogers, Pablo if he isnt traded, and then whoever they deem ready out of Cabrera, Meyer, and Eder. I think Cabrera gets first shot out of those guys and id imagine we see him soon up with the big league team. He has been dominant since he came back.

    • also, while it's been a few years, pablo's injury history is slightly concerning. He hasn't been consistently banged up but the injuries he had were a shoulder injury and I vaguely recall some sort of elbow issue but I could be wrong on that part. He is at 100 IP so far this year and his career high is 110. I love pablo but if we're talking about selling high, I think he's the guy.

      • I’m fine with letting go of Marte for the right return so some contender has their 2021 rental but if Marte isn’t on the 2022 Marlins roster this is going to feel very Loria-like

        • The Marlins are the 9th team all time to have 50+ losses with a positive Run Diff at the All Star break.

i don't know how you would even quantify offensive inconsistency but id love to see where this offense ranks all time in that regard if there is a way to measure it. Im a huge run differential guy but in this instance it doesn't seem relevant because it can easily be explained by having great SP all year, a bullpen that has been good albeit unreliable when we've needed it most, and an offense that can score 20 runs in 2 games and then fail to score 20 in the next 10 games total. So when we lose, its generally close because our pitching is good and pretty consistent, but when we win its because we put up crooked numbers every so often.

            • bottom 4 guys in the lineup today: Joe Panik, Sandy Leon, Jon Berti, Zack Thompson. christ.

              • just going through each teams individual stats and I have no idea how we are so far under .500 compared to teams like the mariners, mets, A's, and even to a lesser extent the rays. not sure if we have comparatively decent stats and have just had bad luck or have been awful when they have needed big hits, but go look at those teams individual numbers and you wonder how they are so far over .500 and we are 10 below.

                • fish16, do you ever feel like you're talking to yourself?

                  • that shoulder is exactly what i mentioned earlier as the longterm concern with Pablo. Edward Cabrera time?

edit- nevermind, apparently cabrera is making his AAA debut tomorrow. Hopefully pablo can come back before long and establish he is healthy and I would absolutely dump him if his value isn't shot from these shoulder injuries. 3 out of the last 4 years he's missed time with that same shoulder injury. and looking back at the game log for him each year it comes off good starts where he goes pretty deep into games.

                    • if jazz doesnt improve the OBP/# of k's and doesn't become a more efficient base stealer, he is more suited as a #5 guy in the lineup on a good team.

                      • id find it hard to believe if another team had a worse catcher position throughout the entire organization than us. From the majors on down to rookie ball, not a single major leaguer or anything close to a major leaguer there. our C position has put up a .518 OPS this year, ranking last in baseball. 2nd to last is Seattle and they arent particularly close at .568. painful to watch.

                        • of course rain comes just as this game is about to become an official game with one more out. Does this become a suspended game or if this cant be played tonight does this become a Phillies win if they get through the top of the 5th?

Edit- will be final if they delay the game now and the phillies are winning. just so incredibly marlins. fucking annoying if they call it now considering it was just pouring for 10 minutes and they were clearly waiting for it to become an official game.

                          • our remaining bench for the rest of the game and its only the 6th inning: Jorge alfaro, Magneuris sierra (how the fuck is he still on the roster), Monte Harrison, and Isan Diaz, who might be going in to replace jazz if that injury is enough to take him out for the rest of the game. Im not sure how a bench could get much worse, especially if Isan goes in the game. There is not a trio of hitters in all of baseball that you could have as our bench that would be worse than that.

At this point with the current lineup and remaining bench, we are essentially trying to score runs with just 5 spots in the lineup. just fucking throwing away the last 4 spots in the lineup. Garrett cooper has been one of the hottest bats in all of baseball for over a month and not only do we not start him in favor of Berti in LF, but when he comes up to pinch hit in a key spot, we dont do a double switch to keep his bat in the lineup for the rest of the game. Mattingly is an awful manager.

                            • Alfaro going into this at bat over the last 2 years has 91 K's and 11 walks. He needs to be a non tender this offseason. I dont care about the hit off the bench, he is a truly awful major league player with no plus tools other than i guess raw power that he is incapable of using because he has some of the worst plate discipline ive ever seen.

                              • Jazz just hit a ball 700 mph right at the second baseman for a GIDP
