  • Ya was either Richie Martin or a ML Ready RP. Martin got taken so they took a ML ready RP(MARLINS LOST NO ONE!!!!)

Riley Ferrell 25 yr old CLOSER #17 Prospect in Astros System

    MLB.com Scouting Report

    Scouting grades: Fastball: 65 | Slider: 60 | Control: 45 | Overall: 45

Ferrell posted a 1.72 ERA and a school-record 32 saves in three years at Texas Christian before signing for an above-slot $1 million as a third-rounder in 2015. He figured to be one of the first players from that Draft to reach the Majors before that ETA changed when he had surgery to remove an aneurysm from his throwing shoulder in May 2016. He missed the rest of that season but recaptured his power stuff in Double-A last year.

With a pair of pitches that grade as well above average at their best, Ferrell could become a closer if he can find some more consistency. His fastball usually ranges from 93-98 mph with late life and his mid-80s slider has two-plane break and can be more unhittable at times. The Astros may have him work on a power curveball to give hitters a different look.

Because he has a high-tempo delivery and lapses into bouts of overthrowing, Ferrell's control and command never have been as sharp as his stuff. His slider can have vicious bite that makes it especially hard to tame, and there's some question as to whether big leaguers will chase it out of the strike zone. He threw more strikes in 2017 than he had in the past, but he also was more hittable and will need to find a happy medium.

No real JT news today. NYM/Atlanta/Cin/TB/Philly are still in on him

NYM still have same issue-unwilling to deal Rosario
Atlanta has been more into OF/SP
Cincy and TB have been very aggressive and both have offers we like

Denbo is NOT rushing this however

    MILB Phase

No names released from TB but there system is nuts so could be anyone.(Arms/C/MIF/OF they have it all) All I know is very solid offer(Rays just traded #35 pick which sucks)

Cincy offer is Trammell/Jeter Downs/C/mid level prospect or 2(possibly #36 pick)

Reason I put C is some people say is Barnhart and others say Barnhart is going to LAD IF Cincy gets JT. So could be Barnhart OR Stephenson. Honestly wouldn't be surprised to see a 3 way with LAD/Cincy/Miami

Should say SD is also "in" but havent heard anything else about them

Sources: Mets, Padres talking this week about 3 team deal w Marlins. Syndergaard, Realmuto and Padres prospects discussed.

Context: This is one of many creative ways to get realmuto that Mets are pursuing. Padres/Marlins/Mets discussions are active, but nothing close to imminent

Guess know why SD is "in" now . Marlins like Urias/Mejia/SP prospects from SD

The field for J.T. Realmuto is essentially down to six teams: Reds, Mets, Rays, Braves, Dodgers and Padres. But with Winter Meetings wrapping up, no trade expected today. Stay tuned.

Doubtful we do any deal with LAD but unless 3 way with Cincy. I would replace Philly with LAD(but LONGSHOT 6th)

          - - - - - - - - - -

Again 5 teams "IN" on JT. SD/LA would be more 3 way deals than anything at this point

Mets still favorite until they sign a C
TB/Cincy have offers we really like
Atlanta in but more concerned with OF/SP
          Philly Longshot

Marlins telling teams JT WILL be dealt and list could shrink based on who Ramos/Grandal sign with

In Mets' continued pursuit of J.T. Realmuto, talks revolve around Michael Conforto/Brandon Nimmo over Amed Rosario, source says. One of those guys - not multiple - would the centerpiece.

Among the NYM prospects MIA has been keen on: Andres Gimenez, Ronny Mauricio, Mark Vientos
            .

This is actually something that NYM(guess source is NYM FO) have been pushing harder but they havent gotten far as Miami still wants Rosario. I think it would be a GREAT offer if Miami would take it tho and actually like it better than Rosario/Nimmo/Peterson/C

            Nimmo/Gimenez/Vientos OR Mauricio/C for JT

Also for those wondering YES Miami made an offer like this LAST Tuesday but been focused on Rosario since then

            • I'm good with Conforto/Nimmo, Gimenez, Vientos, and Nido. Prefer Nimmo.* Mauricio seems like a third guy in the deal but they don't need more fringe SS with Osiris, Devers, and C. Torres around after Gimenez.

*I'm not saying Atlanta or whoever can't beat this, just that the value does line up with Conforto/Nimmo** and Gimenez having a very strong amount of projected surplus value

**Cleveland would look amazing with either of these guys*** after what they just did for a McKenzie centerpiece, Bradley is now completely expendable because of Bauers, Alonso is a great salary dump for Miami for a lot of reasons, and probably get something else like another arm/Chang

***And Conley to get even more stuff from them as they need cheap pen help

Same here and I like it BETTER than Rosario/Nimmo/Peterson. Mauricio isnt gonna be a SS-likely 3B or LF(6'3 170 18 yr old) pretty much same as Vientos(Depends who Denbo likes more)

U get Conforto/Nimmo and flip to Cleveland for Alonso/McKenzie/Bradley OR like u said throw in a RP and get another Prospect or Nolan Jones instead of Bradley?

Once Miami gets OFF of Rosario it will probably be a deal like that which is why NYM are still consider faves until the sign a C.

                • Looks like we might have a breakthru with the NYM and it is a deal they discussed Dec 4th Not saying this is deal but looks like Miami has finally said OK to this. They are still talking with other teams(final offer type stuff with other teams but NYM offer seems to be final)

                  NYM-JT
                  Miami-Nimmo OR Conforto(Likely Nimmo)/Gimenez/Vientos OR Mauricio(Denbo's Choice)/C(Mets have about 5 between Majors and Minors)

Spent week and a half insisting on Rosario only to cave and be cool with a deal EVERYONE likes better!!

                    • as much as i prefer rosario, if you can get nimmo, giminez, AND vientos and then a stop gap catcher that's a pretty good value for JT.

If the third player is Mauricio, the benefit could be huge down the line - a keystone combo of Giminez and Maurico for many years.

                        • Fangraphs on Ferrel:

Riley Ferrell, RHP (from Astros)- Ferrell was a dominant college closer at TCU and was consistently 93-97 with a plus slider there. He continued to pitch well in pro ball until a shoulder aneurysm derailed his 2016 season. Ferrell needed surgery that transplanted a vein from his groin into his shoulder in order to repair it, and the industry worried at the time that the injury threatened his career. His stuff is back and Ferrell is at least a big league ready middle reliever with a chance to be a set-up man.
                          That sounds awful

And his walk rate is awful too. The toughest thing about watching the Marlins is the parade of joggers down to first base. Ferrel doesn't figure to stem that flow.

                              • Nimmo, Gimenez, Vientos, and Nido doesn't sound like a great return for Realmuto. If this is the return I don't understand coming down from asking for Rosario and Peterson to Gimenez and Vientos without getting another prospect. Also why do we have to take back a scrub catcher? Is it just to have an additional backup? Since that is all Nido would be. Everyone is saying that if Nimmo is the guy they will flip him to another team for prospects but I think most likely they will just keep him.
