Teams did not employ any shift vs. Arraez last season.

Lee is actually right here, 97.8% non-shift rate. I find that pretty surprising. I'd expect more even if it isn't a pure pull hitter.

Bleday, Soler, and Jazz were each radically shifted, Sanchez about half the time, and Garcia a little. Everyone else was very small. A good omen for those first 3 in particular.

Yes, and Jazz, Soler, Sanchez, and to an extent Bleday all hit the ball hard so that lack of shift will be super helpful to all of them. As i've said, im still super hopefuly on Sanchez, at least as it pertains to him against righties. I think with better luck, being used properly, and the lack of the shift, he can have a nice breakout year.

You don't want us to start a count and rehashing all the absolutely wild minor league takes and reliance on BTV - like how BTV thinks the Marlins can trade DLC for Rosario, Eli Morgan, and a throw in prospect right now. Sign me up.

I think DLC, Sanchez, and Bleday will all be better this year, acknowledging the bar is very low. There is a lot to like with all of them from hard hit rates, walks, corner defense, to comical BABIPs. Something is going to give here. At leasr for one of them.

agreed, im hoping by the beginning of next year, we can rely on good production from a Burdick/Sanchez platoon in one corner spot and bleday to take a step and become an all around player in another.

I think the smartest thing to do is have Sanchez and DLC as 3rd OF/4th OF to begin the year with another few months of Bleday developing at the AAA level and hopefully building on what he got better at in AAA last year. The average wasnt great but the OBP was at .365 and the K/BB was at 99/60. He clearly has good plate discipline and he was even good against lefties in AAA with an OPS of .807, if he can just develop a little more and take that next step i think he can be the long term OF piece we all want him to be.

im a big proponent of young prospects getting their feet wet at the big league level, struggling, going back down to start the next year and work on their deficiencies in AAA, and then coming back up again and breaking through for good. although they both struggled a little bit in the bigs to end last year, I think Bleday and burdick have a good chance of doing just that this year.

Sanchez is OOO so he's up for good. They can stash Bleday/Burdick in AAA for two full years if they want. They'll have to fight their way on the team but no pressure there. Soler opting out will help them get on the team, as well as Sanchez and/or Jerar failing this year as they get first crack with their option situations. This is Jerar's last option year. Performance will easily dictate this one.

You are literally one of the least knowledgeable people about baseball I have ever encountered.

You are a moron but it's comical and sad and that somehow makes it tolerable.

                        • Why my favorite team is destined to be terrible again this season:

Cueto is almost certainly a downgrade from Pablo, but the starters aren't likely to be a problem. Unfortunately, Miami starters aren't likely to pitch a whole lot more than half the innings, and the bullpen is for shit.

Soler and Garcia are still Marlins.

The overall defense will likely be worse than last season.

I literally love the Lee literally/figuratively zingers. Two good ones in one month.

But Lee, you have to admit lamenting things like Antonio Velez being traded are a bit ridiculous

I wouldn't view it like this. I think Rogers/Luzardo/Garrett/Cabrera upticks replace Pablo's innings easily. Add in Eury there too if you want. Cueto replaces effectively Hernandez, Castano, Poteet, and Meyer.

They certainly likely need another reliever though.

I think team defense won't be a liability, but a real SS is going to do wonders to be able to shuffle Wendle around, and by extension Berti and Arraez(1B) more. As said numerous times, that's the missing piece here unless we all think Amaya is going to be Rojas immediately.

Prior to being traded, Velez threw 100 innings of .86 WHIP in High-A and AA for the Marlins in 2021. What Marlin fan wouldn't be excited about that? He was throwing like Chris Paddack, who was my biggest lamentation ever! Hell, I'm still excited about Luis Palacios and his strike-throwing ability.

More to ridicule: I have not given up on Nunez as the SS by season's end. Brilliant run prevention at the position.
