  • If we can get Conforto and Reynolds and sign cueto to eat innings for a year or 2, then trade Pablo to the Blue jays for a C, that's a pretty good offseason. We also like to joke about hosmer but on a super cheap deal he's not a bad backup option for Cooper once he takes a pitch off his hand/wrist in the first week of the year.

    C- Kirk/Fortes/Stallings gets dealt
    1b- Cooper/Hosmer
    2b- Jazz
SS- Rojas (could desperately use an upgrade, maybe deal from the lower minors for Rosario for a year)
    3b- Wendle
    LF- Conforto
    CF- Reynolds
    RF- Garcia
    DH- Soler
    Bench- Berti, DLC, Sanchez/Bleday/Hosmer/Backup C
SP- Sandy/Luzardo/Cabrera/Garrett/Cueto with Eury in the wings.

Good mix of power and lefties and righties in that lineup, plus good combo of cheap young talent with the more expensive vets. Once Jazz/Kirk get theoretical extensions, Garcia and Soler and Conforto would be gone.

That's in a scenario in which we deal Pablo for Kirk and Rogers + prospects for Reynolds. It is entirely doable, and while we're obviously not close to the top 3 in our division, that's a really good team with a much better lineup that might be fringe wild card worthy. You then have Berry at 1b/DH long term in the wings, Watson/Cappe/Salas/Lewis at SS long term. Bleday and Sanchez and Burdick still in the OF with promise. Still need a long term 3b and who knows if Berry and the SS's pan out, but that's a really good team that allows you to completely turnover the lineup with talent without giving up enormous long term money, and you still have Sandy/Luzardo/Cabrera/Eury long term which is one of my priorities.

    • The more i look into kirk, the more i want to deal him for pablo. Makes way too much sense for both sides. I'd do it straight up. Kirk has pure power, unreal plate discipline with more bb's than k's, and apparently grades out tremendously defensively. Would be the best catcher we've had since JT by far, and apparently he's not a free agent until 2027, and stupid cheap the next few years. They signed bassitt but have 1 more hole in their rotation. It makes too much sense.

For league minimum I don't hate the idea of bringing in Hosmer.

But it absolutely cannot be the only move.

If #Pirates trade Bryan Reynolds this offseason, they’re looking for at least one top starting pitcher to headline the package — such as Bobby Miller (#Dodgers) or Ricky Tiedemann (#BlueJays), both of whom rank among the top 40 prospects in
          @MLB
          , per
          @MLBPipeline
          .

you knew it would happen but more smoke coming out about what pirates would want for reynolds. Morosi says a young controllable pitcher who is controllable. Other than Eury who wont be dealt for him, we dont have that in the version of a prospect, but we certainly have that with Rogers. I think you start with Rogers and build a package from there. Maybe Rogers, Meyer/Eder, then one of the SS prospects (Salas, Cappe, Lewis). I would think thats more than enough to get it done. I would do that in a heartbeat. We easily have what it takes to make it work. If they dont pull the trigger im done with this team, and im pretty close already. this offseason has been a complete joke.

No idea who it is, but someone on twitter who seems to have sources and has 5k followers says the pirates really like trevor rogers. If rogers is the only major league piece that is a complete no brainer to me. Leaves you with Sandy, Pablo, Luzardo, Cabrera, Garrett, and you could still sign cueto and have Eury, and whoever is left of Fulton, Eder, and Meyer in the system.
Cabrera has 6 years of control - he is that version of a prospect (Rogers 4 control years). He is a top 100 guy when healthy and looked acetastic a few games.

This is why I have been saying, add in Bednar and Brubaker and give'em the world.

          Rogers/Luzardo/Cabrera
          Meyer/Eder
          Salas
          J. Miller (2nd rounder)
          Comp Pick (1/2 rounder)
          Bleday/Burdick/Jerar/Sanchez

          *and you still have 6 SP + Eury + Meyer/Eder + Fulton + Sixto*

How is Pittsburgh saying no? Payroll increases $10m to $90m, or if it's Luzardo, to $88m.

Im fine with it, as long as that guy is rogers. Id give more prospects to keep luzardo and cabrera and put rogers in there. Id do Rogers/Meyer/Salas/Miller/Comp Pick/OF if it nets us Bednar and Reynolds. That's a game changer and we would still have pablo left if we can sign Cueto as well to replace the innings for a year until Eury is ready and Luzardo and Cabrera are ready to be let loose.

                • Rogers/Salas/Miller/Eder or Meyer/ Picks/OF for Reynolds and Bednar.
                  Pablo for Kirk.
Sign Conforto and Cueto and Hosmer for the minimum.

                  C- Kirk/Fortes
                  1b- Coop/Hosmer
                  2b- Jazz
                  SS- Rojas
                  3b- Wendle
                  LF- Conforto
                  CF- Reynolds
                  RF- Garcia
                  DH-Soler
                  Bench- Berti, Fortes, DLC, Sanchez/Bleday
SP- Sandy, Luzardo, Cabrera, Garrett, Cueto with Eury and Eder and Fulton
RP- Bednar at closer, Floro, Chargois, Enright, Okert, Bleier.

That's a fucking team. they need to spend very little money to make that happen.

You sign Longoria over Hosmer and it's not particularly close here IMO

Id be all for that. It allows longoria to take over 3b full time for the most part, then you can do a decent platoon or split time between Wendle and Rojas as SS. I could get behind that. Longoria can also play 1st so that kills two birds with one stone.

if we have an owner who can "splurge" for a bottom 10 payroll he needs to sell the team.

I'd do that but add Brubaker also. Reynolds is great, but they need to replace innings and Brubaker has 3 years of control and is cheap. He is meaningless to them and cheaper than FA options. A perfect throw in.

Effectively 3 top 100 players or 2 + Rogers, a 1st rounder they can pick, a 2nd rounder from last year, a projectable OF, and call it throw ins, it should be done quickly. The caveat is - is Reynolds going to accept a 6/$100m extension? That one is tough. Is he going to demand 7/$130+ which isn't outrageous based on this FA market for him. Do the Marlins do something like that?

                              How cheap is Bruce?

Exactly. It's a 1400 PA platoon at 1B/3B of Cooper, Longoria, and Berti(+backup SS whoever that is). They will all play appropriate amounts. Longo is kind of perfect since he hits lefties.

But why sign here? He is waiting for a bench contender, so make some moves so you CAN get that guy, and then they have the knowledge if the marlins suck they will trade your ass
