Not sure how he qualifies as a DH, he's played every infield spot aside from SS. He has a higher BB% than K% for his career. He's one of the most elite leadoff hitters or 2 hitters in the game. We were the worst contact team in the league last year and our ballpark is enormous. He would be perfect to set the table for Jazz and hopefully reynolds. Kepler has had 2+ WAR every year since 2016 other than the 60 game season where he was on pace for 3 WAR over a 162 game season. Even with some years the bat being off, he still only strikes out 18% for his career and walks a good amount at 11%. That is the most ideal package they can get for Lopez. IF they can somehow get Royce lewis in the deal, which i doubt, but if they can, that is an absolute HR deal. Trade Rogers, Eder, Watson + for Reynolds and you have a wild card contender immediately if we stay healthy.

The guy hasn't played much DH aside from last year. Acting like he's a full time DH is ridiculous.

Also, Mish was saying last night that Soler is back in incredible shape so maybe the talk about him being DH only due to his back was premature. Or to protect him they still keep him there and just let him mash and get a LF since he's not great in the field regardless.

Are you going to sit Chisholm or Segura to let Arraez play second or third, despite defensive inadequacy? Are you going to play a five-ten first baseman with single digit hr power?

Either Segura or Jazz can play SS, and Arraez was good at 1b last year. He was also good in LF a few years ago. Who the fuck cares if he's 5'10 and hits single digit hr's if he wins the batting title and gets on base 40% of the time and can play passable defense wherever they play him. He's one of the best leadoff hitters in baseball. He lets jazz hit in the middle of the lineup and drive in runs instead of leadoff.

Garrett Cooper had 9 HRs last year.

And his overall slugging percentage was lower than Arraez. It might sound stupid, but a lot of times you can tell a lot about a player by the reaction of the team he is leaving. The phillies fans seemed to love segura, and Twins fans consider arraez the heart and soul of that team. He plays hard as shit, has gap power, never strikes out, makes contact, walks a decent amount, and won the batting title last year.

                • Give me Arraez and Lewis from the Twins and I'm happy. Throw in a reliever or whatever to get it done like lou said.

I'm just not sure Kepler helps us, unless he can somehow man CF for 120 games a season and provide at least average defense. If he's just a corner OF/DH, we have about 8 candidates, none of which we're completely sold on, and he just adds to that list.

I dont see Lewis being in it. Mish said as much last night. Kepler helps as another CF/LF option. He's a really good fielder, better in the corner though. I think i like it from the standpoint of not thinking DLC/Sanchez/Bleday should be guaranteed anything more than a 4th OF role. IF you get Kepler and Reynolds, they play the majority of the time in CF/LF, and then DLC is the 4th OF, Sanchez and Bleday maybe sneak on as a 5th OF or get traded in a reynolds deal because they would need OF and we would have a glut. Mish said last night Bleday they are lukewarm on at this point and Sanchez they arent going to guarantee anything to. I think whatever shit he pulled off the field last year might have been the beginning of the end of his time here. He showed up like 15 minutes before a game or something like that.

I would be ecstatic if they get lewis though. Everyone on twitter was hinting at something huge and i dont see Arraez and Kepler as huge. It's a nice deal for 2 starters from a position you are already deep at, but it didnt warrant the reaction people were giving out last night. If it's Arraez, Kepler, and Lewis, you gotta think it's pablo and another player going the other way. That's way too much for pablo to be the only piece going the other way. Kepler is a 2 WAR player, Arraez is the batting champ with 3 years left as opposed to pablo's 2, and Lewis has been injury prone but he was the number 1 overall pick for a reason and he was really good both in the minors and big leagues for limited time last year.

Any way you can give an overview of what Mish said last night? I joined late and only heard the tail end of what he was saying, and some of the discussion after he left. Apparently he said he didn't think they were going to make two trades for bats?

If Leiter is in the deal, I don't think Miami is going to beat it. The only way you do that is if you include Eury, or too many high level arms. I'm skeptical that the Rangers are going to trade Leiter, though.

I gave an overview of what i thought was the important stuff in a post last night probably around 10 pm. nothing of too much note, but he didnt think this twins trade was imminent. Soler looks good. They arent over the moon about Bleday and Sanchez will have to earn it.

He did say he didnt think it would be two trades but he also said they would be after reynolds so i think thats more of a thing regarding the pirates not looking to trade him yet. As soon as they realize he isnt going to sign an extension and that he gets less valuable each day closer to free agency they will deal him. It's similar to the yelich and JT stuff with us, though those were slightly different circumstances. when a guy doesnt want to play there, the team realizes it eventually.

I’m not sure why he started declaring trades were made when they weren’t. I wasted 15 minutes doing some digging only to find out nothing actually happened.

Very happy I was wrong. See you in 4 months when the Marlins have their first 3 game losing streak.

there was a spanish writer who covers the rays and marlins who said the marlins made another trade in a quote of the rojas trade. everyone got excited and started saying marlins were about to trade pablo for arraez and kepler. the guy then proceeded to delete the tweet with 0 explanation
