Watson 49 (top 5 potential upside for next year(!))
    Meyer 58 ("a rotation stalwart")
Eury 67 (if he were in 2022 draft as a high schooler, top 5 pick)
    Sixto 80 (mid-rotation starter)
Cabrera 107 (impact arm, might be a reliever)
Salas 109 (you have to dig for this in comments, but he just missed the list apparently)

Considering Bleday and Burdick have made other top 100s, and Eder is likely in this orbit if healthy, this is pretty good depth when you consider they have some other guys (Morisette, McCambley, Mack, I. Lewis, etc.) who aren't duds.

I think the scouting consensus suggests Pablo, Meyer, or Eury is the piece you move for a bat. Watson's upside may be too high, but for anyone but Bryan Reynolds. Sixto, Cabrera, Bleday, Burdick, and Salas are all secondary pieces for a star and you'd be selling low as there aren't full believers in them yet.

If they were to trade Pablo, Cooper, and Bass for Marsh and 2 more decent angels prospects, that lowers payroll to high 50s. The team really works signing Scwharber/Castellanos, an innings eater/elite reliever, and acquiring a legitimate 4th OF (Kiermaier/Hicks).

    Stallings, Fortes
    Aguilar
    Jazz
    Rojas, Berti
    Anderson, Wendle
    Sanchez
    Marsh, Keirmaier/Hicks
    Garcia
    Schwarber/Castellanos

Sandy, Rogers, "Free Agent Arm", Elisier, Luzardo
Bender, Floro, Sixto, Cabrera, Pop, Head
    Bleier, Okert

I bet it's a $90m if they are smart with the signings. Fortes/Berti/another lefty reliever likely should be addressed, but they can get to the deadline with this for sure.

I would love that team. Especially if the SP is Greinke (who FG projected as getting $10m in another article).
Spend more and steal Freeman from the Braves and trade Aguilar too.

    • Fish on the Farm@marlinsminors.@CraigMish stated on today’s @SwingsAndMishes that in addition to the #Marlins signing a closer, a major trade is ready to be executed once the lockout ends.

This could be a transformative week for this franchise.

So we are almost assuredly signing Jansen and then making a marsh type trade for a CF I'm assuming.

      • Reynolds, marsh makes sense, and i could see Kelenic as well given the glut of hitting prospects the mariners have.

Interesting. I just listened to the very beginning of his podcast this morning, but he said they had a deal on the table that they didn't take before the "deadline" (I'm assuming he means before the lockout) that would have made everyone really happy. He mentioned this when talking about how the Marlins could make some big moves without necessarily spending a bunch of money to do it, so I'd guess it's a relatively cheap/young player. I wonder who that would be. I also wonder why they didn't take it, and if they will once the lockout ends.

Could’ve just been that they didn’t finalize the “lesser” players of the deal by the time the lockout went into effect.

            • So I just listened to the whole podcast.
-He said from everything he knows the narratives out there that Jeter leaving were due to solidarity with the players, or because the team isn't going to spend is flat out wrong.
-He said he feels bad for the people in the building that were hired by Jeter that may not be retained when a new CEO is brought in, but he doesn't think this is a bad thing for the organization. He mentioned he knows of some deals that happened because of Jeter, and some that didn't happen because of Jeter, and he thinks they can do better.
-He thinks they'll hire a CEO with baseball experience, that hopefully works well with Ng. He mentioned he doesn't really think it was a great collaborative environment previously and suggested Ng wasn't ready to fulfill all of the GM duties, which led Jeter to do a some of it.
-Now to the good stuff. He said there are two blockbuster deals Miami has been looking at, and he expects them to complete one of them after the lockout is over. He said it's a really good player coming back ("not a Mike Trout, so some may not believe it to be great immediately, but after some research you'll be very happy). Interestingly he mentioned how they needed a CF more than anything, which kind of walks back what he said before about Garcia playing there. He did say the cost is going to be big with both big prospects, and a good player on the roster (I'm kind of assuming Brian Anderson based on some things he's said before) going out the door.
-He also said he thinks they'll sign a closer.
-Overall, though, he said he thinks ownership wants to win, and wants to win now. He said Sherman is a rich guy with nothing to do, but run a baseball team, and he doesn't think his motives are to make every cent they can, unlike the Loria regime.

Most CEOs of teams usually aren't really involved in baseball decision making, though. Jeter was an exception because he's Jeter. So I don't really see FO personnel really changing much unless they want to move on or if Ng wants to make changes (presumably she'd be given more/fuller autonomy now). It wouldn't be "you're fired because Jeter is gone."

Moving BA opens up a hole at 3rd, though. Unless they're signing Bryant to fill that gap, that only shifts the hole around.

They traded for Joey Wendel, and Mish has previously said he didn’t think that was a super utility role, but rather a starting job. That’s part of the reason I believe he’s referring to BA as the roster player getting moved. Of course, it could very well be Pablo, which would also make a lot of sense.

                  • So Mish said on Spaces on twitter tonight when asked about the current Marlins player he was talking about who could be shipped out in one of these trades that he didn’t think both Anderson and Wendel will be on the team this year. He said either one could realistically be traded. He apparently mentioned on the Le Batard show that Jeter vetoed a Reynolds deal. On Spaces he said the return would have been massive and basically wiped out their minor league assets. He wouldn’t get into who these two deals would be for but someone asked him about the Blue Jays OFers and he dodged it kind of mentioning that people could speculate on those two and Marte.

He also said Sixto is hurt again.

Why would they trade FOR Wendle and then trade him away in the same offseason?

                      • I'm not surprised about Sixto. He was known for conditioning and injury issues when he was with the Phillies.

I believe what he’s saying is that Anderson will be traded.

Talk about dealing a player (Anderson) at the low point of his value! He would return next to nothing.

Imagine Jeter leaving because he disagrees with trading prospects for superstar B. Reynolds. If that's the case... good riddance Jeets. I'll be a little bummed Watson and Eury get moved, but pretty F'ing happy Bryan Reynolds is coming back and they can sign him to a 6-7 year deal like Sandy.

Encouraging or cheap? This will be interesting.

I'm fine trading B. Anderson if that opens up other moves. He's good and cheap, and they'd need another platoon 3B guy at minimum, but they can handle that.

Very doubtful. Just remember, whatever your take is, it's probably wrong. He has paced over a 2.5+ WAR player the last two years during a pandemic and hurt. You probably gets dinged a little because of recent injury history, but he's cheap and has more than a year of control. I don't think they would get crushed in a deal with him. Next to nothing is laughable.
