The optics suck but too early to call.

I expect pain but we have to give them a couple of months before we officially declare LOLMarlins.

Reports are that Miami was competitive and in it until the the end with Marte. If that’s true it’s both very frustrating and somewhat encouraging. Frustrating obviously because if they never traded him they probably could have just gotten the deal done, but somewhat encouraging because that might mean they actually do plan on spending some money.

Starling Marte gave the Marlins multiple opportunities to sign him. In season. After the season. Last night. It’s just perplexing how Miami’s offer to him yesterday would have simply gotten a deal done had they offered it to him before they traded him.

That's both encouraging and frustrating. Hopefully they've learned their lesson with those negotiations.

There's a report out there that the Orioles "would listen to trade offers for Cedric Mullens", and Jon Heyman responded to that with "This is a long shot of course. Many teams would obviously love to have Mullins, and a few might even be able to match up. How about the Marlins with all that young pitching?"

The thing with Mullins is how much would he cost, and do you really want to blow your wad on a guy with one year of real production? If you can't get someone like Buxton, and you don't have to give up an insane amount, I'd be interested. But I think I'd have other preferences.

Only one year of success but he had some solid work in 2020 vs RHP and his numbers were dragged down vs. LHP. He ditched being a switch hitter before 2021 and now you see the results. I don’t see him as a 5 WAR player but I certainly think he’s a 3-4 WAR guy, .750+ OPS and 20+ steals CF and I think you absolutely pursue him if the price is semi reasonable.

Yeah. I mean the price is the question for me. But f it’s semi-reasonable I’m definitely in if you’re not getting Buxton or another proven star. I’m not sure if it will be, though, because it’s not like Baltimore has to trade him and he’s coming off of a huge year.

It feels like a lot of guys are trying to get their deals done before the lockout. Hopefully that pushes things along with Castellanos. Whether Miami lands him or not, I think it’s better for them if it gets resolved sooner rather than drawing out until the end of FA like Mish speculated in his podcast.

This is quickly turning into a nothing offseason yet again. I'm giving them a slight chance still through the end of the offseason, but I'm just going to not care anymore if they don't do anything.

I was never too big on the idea of Buxton anyway (the injury history scared me), the Marlins' options seem to be dwindling by the day or even hour.

remember debating avisail garcia when we were interested in him 2 years ago. hated him then, hate him now. Just a bad signing, let alone the fact that we just bought 4 years of a not good player for no reason.
