I just don't think he';s ever going to get the consistent playing time to ever get comfortable at this level after he's been rotting away in AAA for several years. I think there was a way to handle him that could have produced a quality big leaguer but they continued to count on aguilar despite him falling off a cliff. I think he will latch on somewhere and become a good platoon guy for a few years, but I don't see it happening here.

It means that our current prospects are looking worse than Isan, that's all.

No, it means Isan is really good at hitting at AAA, which doesn't mean shit if he can't hit at the majors.

I really think so many of the deficiencies of the pitching could be solved by a manager who is willing to get creative with bullpen use. Why do we only see relievers going multiple innings when the game is out of hand? We're going to need guys like Poteet, Neidert, Hernandez, to follow up Luzardo, Cabrera and eventually Eury. Give you 2-3 innings when they enter a game, and then have the ability to slot in the rotation if/when one of the big boys gets hurt. Should help keep guys healthy and not have to count so much on retread relievers to get through the 5th-6th-7th.
Yea - preaching to the choir here. Creativity and pitching guys 1-2 times through the lineup and stacking SP.

Frankly, they should make a combined SP with two of the guys. It's probably Cabrera and Rogers (as Luzardo is the best of the 3-6 guys here, and Garrett surprisingly likely has most innings potential as he has been throwing big innings in minors and probably can get to 160+ as-is assuming he holds up ROS). Throw those guys out 4+ innings each over 32 games. They are getting 130 IP each which is great and see what happens. This is likely Cabrera's max. Rogers can probably handle a few more, but it's not like he is earning them right now and you can always reassess midseason as they are stretched out pretty much. If anyone gets hurt, you just split this up and maybe add Poteet to the mix to take over one of those bulk spots.

This is really revolutionary honestly IMO of just chugging two potentially elite starters/multi inning relievers and giving the bullpen an entire day off hopefully. The bullpen is SO RESTED for the 2-3-4 starters after this + Sandy doing his thing, which I think is really really valuable over the course of a season.

          R Sandy
          L Luzardo
          R Pablo
          L Garrett
          R/L Cabrera - > Rogers

          Floro, Bender, Poteet, Hernandez/Neidert/option arms
          Scott, Bleier, Okert

Neidert has options so frankly, it would be perfect if he is "14th" pitcher next year and the team can upgrade that one spot (they probably trade at least two of Cooper/Berti/Wendle/Rojas/Anderson and that sounds like RP to me) with god willingly "Sixto" being 15 and Eury/Eder trending to come up in August. Some good depth relievers like Nardi/Soriano might be on 40 man also on top of this.

This is the smartest thing to do for me with the "keep pablo and all 5 other SP" to me.

Now imagine doing this in 2024 with

          Sandy
          Luzardo - > Poteet/Sixto/Neidert
          Garrett - > Eury
          Rogers - > Cabrera
          Eder - > Meyer

If you average 130 IP of the bottom 8 here, and add 200 for Sandy... your bullpen is throwing 200-250 innings over 4 roster spots.

Hardly anyone sees a pitcher a third time. Everyone is stretched out and fresh. The rotation is injury proof for 2-3 major injuries effectively.

          • Garrett's statcast is out of this world which I just stumbled onto - https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savan...garrett-666129

I did not see Garrett rapidly turning into a very good # 3 SP happening this year at all. Maybe a good long man lefty RP, but this is really something else.

            • On a different note, I just cancelled my season tickets after 4 years. They had changed my package from all Saturday games to middle of the week games without talking to me and the team still sucks after these 4 years.

Also, the start time of the games are ridiculous from anyone driving from broward during the week.

I don't blame you. And that's ridiculous with no notice. Do they have any idea of how to run a business or just want slick looking social posts?

                • At least Bleday is having a nice start. Maybe they'll get a .240/.320/.450 hitter out of him with a platoon split against RHP after all.

                  • This team is just insane. This is the current production per 600 PA cherry picking the good players.

                    C - Fortes 5.9 WAR
                    1B - Cooper 2.2 WAR
                    2B - Jazz 6.5 WAR
                    SS - Wendle 2.6 WAR / Rojas 1.5 WAR
                    3B - Berti 5.1 WAR / Williams 4.5 WAR
                    LF - Soler 1.2 WAR
                    CF - Sanchez 1.1 WAR
                    RF - Anderson 2 WAR

Of course Fortes/Berti/Williams are over achieving here by a ton, but even if you slash all of them down to a solid 2-2.5 WAR starter land, this should be a really solid position core needing a megafriend for Jazz. I mean literally everyone here has been hurt this year (except Fortes and Williams....... who didn't start the year with the team), but this is just crazy they are so bad when all of these guys are objectively performing pretty well for who they are. Of course, Stallings and DLC effectively wipe out a players worth of production each, and Aguilar and Garcia combine to wipe out a third, rendering this at minimum 4 terrible lineup spots when adding the DH.

My fear is this will create some complacency in that Aguilar and DLC will be gone, Garcia/Stallings/Soler will be better (right?) and offset Fortes/Berti/Williams playing out of their minds, plus Bleday/Burdick/presumably a new CF will offset the likely trades of Anderson and one of Wendle/Rojas off the team because the later guys are too expensive to keep. This alone and staying healthy (plus Groshans? Berry?) is probably an upgrade doing nothing.

But much more is needed as discussed ad nauseam. It's just crazy. Hopefully they fix things and don't damage the pitching to do it.

                    • So Berti and Anderson likely back tomorrow. This has to mean Aguilar and Hamilton being DFA'd right?

If that's the case, I think we should see this, at least until Soler and Garcia are ready to come back.

                      C - Fortes/Stallings
                      1B - Lewin
                      2B - Wendle/Berti
                      3B - Leblanc
                      SS - Rojas/Berti
                      LF - Anderson
                      CF - Burdick
                      RF - Bleday
                      DH - Cooper

Williams and DLC last guys off the bench.

Aguilar will somehow make it. If De La Cruz is sent down instead, I'm ok with that, but if one of Lewin, Burdick, Bleday or LeBlanc are sent down I'm going to be pissed.

                      • If we’re being real, they owe Aguilar probably another million or 2 the rest of the year, he ain’t going anywhere. Count me as someone who could go without seeing de la Cruz anymore. He is who he is. He could be your 5th of maybe, but he’s pretty terrible.

this sounds dumb but I like Hamilton if we have an expanded roster next year if we find a manager who knows how to utilize him. Pinch runner in late innings in close games exclusively, not guys whose spot will come up again unless the game goes 12 innings . It’s things like that and bullpen management that makes me pray Mattingly just resigns at the end of the year. There are so many guys who could play useful roles who are just so misused throughout his entire tenure here.

Of the 408 hitters in MLB with over 100 PA this year, DLC is 7th worst (Stallings 12th). Cano, Villar, Tsutago, Miller, CASTELLANOS, Chirinos, DLC, OZUNA, Lowrie, Pache, Torkelson, STALINGS, and ROSARIO round out the bottom. DLC would be a fringe keep on 40 man and a better backup optionable CF brought in.

If they expand rosters from 26, an epic pinch runner may make sense. No way can they fit him in on a 13 man lineup/19 guys on the 40 man (as they usually keep 21-22 pitchers)

                            Fortes, Stallings (Henry)
                            Cooper*
                            Jazz, Berti
                            ____
                            Wendle/Rojas/Anderson (keep 1), Williams (Groshans)
                            Bleday, Burdick (Sanchez)
                            ______
                            Garcia
                            Soler

They probably have 3 more 40 man spots for bats - Troy Johnston/better 1B,* Leblanc/better MI, and DLC/better OF. You can sell me Hamilton over DLC here to literally run and play defense but that's it. Lewin is OOO so he's booted here*

Bleday is having a nice start and Cabrera and Luzardo look great, but maybe pump the breaks on .396 MiLB BABIP LeBlanc which has somehow spiked to a .517 BABIP(!!!) in the SSS of the majors. Guy is 2.5% walks and a .517 BABIP right now. He may not be hitting his weight soon. But I'd still let him play and see if he can win that 6th/7th MI spot on the 40 man roster before or after Groshans. They should have someone in as a camp battle at minimum.

He's not going to continue to hit .410, and he walked at a good clip in the minors.

Leblanc turning into a .260/.340/.440 guy in the bigs doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility to me.
