  • Friday takeaways.
    1) Braves are far superior to Marlins at nearly every position on the field ... doesn't bode well for Marlins over next few years.
    2) Unfortunate and untimely outcome for Urena ... his upward trending trade value takes a critical hit.
    3) League has figured out Harold Ramirez ... no need to ever toss him a strike. Now up to him to adjust and start taking pitches.
    4) After all the talk about a new, patient hitting approach, the team is showing the opposite. Soroka tried to walk hitters but they wouldn't have any part of it.
    5) Even Bleday suffers by association and comes up whiffing vs Duke

        • I love the hoodies the Marlins players and coaches where in the dugout. I looked for them in the Marlins online store, but couldn't find them. Sad!

          • Usually i agree with the FIP of our starters, but richards seems like a guy who should have a lower FIP just based on the times ive watched him this year.

            • Atmosphere at the ballpark is amazing. It's really different from 2-3 years ago. Shame we lost today's game. If only that single wasn't stretched into a double.

I don’t totally disagree about Atlanta but they consistently take it up a notch vs the Marlins. I’m not remotely surprised we are looking at getting swept at home tomorrow after a great road trip.

                • Astros called up Y. Alvarez, so I can only assume they feel confident they are passed the super2 deadline as they wouldn't blow it by a week at this point.

Looks like we are passed the Gallen threshold. About time to let him rip.

This is why doing so poorly on the Yelich trades will take years to overcome. Unless they are willing to spend and spend BIG in the next 2 to 3 years in free agency they killed the rebuild. Looks like Scott is many years away from being a factor in the organization. Why did they take a HS kid when you are doing a rebuild in a division with such tough competition and teams that know what they are doing ? Also if the target date to compete is 2021, shouldn't you have gone with a college kid that would be possibly ready by 2021 ? Scott if he does turn it on, will be at least 2023 before he is ready. I looked at his stats in Clinton and other than BB going up I don't see much improvement. I have watched 3 games (yes a small sample) on MiLB.com and he's had one hit (an infield single) in those 3 games abd K'd 8 times.

Unless they are prepared to actually spend a lot of money on free agency in 2021 I just don't see this organization overcoming the Braves or anyone else unless the Braves have a rash of injuries.

I don't see the attendance doubling in the next 2 years, as long as the austerity budget is in place. So why would you spend a lot of $$$ for a team that will at best finish 3rd place in the division and maybe break 81 wins but barely and that is if a lot of things go right ?

Doom and gloom ? Maybe but at least I don't bury my head in the sand like some here do.

                      • Took the grandkids to Atlanta game late Saturday afternoon - first trip of this season.

                        1) Missed the HR sculpture in CF. Park looks bland w/o. Ironically, there's music to try and capture the local spirit which falls far short of what it provided.
                        2) Richards was done after six and 82 pitches ... showing some cracks. Why in the world have him lead off the bottom of the sixth, sacrificing the all important leadoff spot in the inning? All for one more inning of pitching??
                        3) Having let Richards put the go ahead run on third with one out (a ringing double by Riley and a 407' out by Albies) why not bring in Anderson to strike out Flowers? Instead left Richards in to give up SF.
                        4) Cooper lacks the arm for RF. Weak two bouncer to home in effort to get Riley from shallow RF.
                        5) Ramirez reacted well to being benched to start game. As pinch hitter, he actually took two balls before slugging a 2-0 pitch to LF. Throughout his long hitless streak, I don't remember him ever going 1-0, much less 2-0.

Ringing double??? It was right in front of Riddle who had a slow approach to the ball and let Riley stretch that to a double. Agreed with Cooper. It was out in shallow RF and he couldn't throw to home
