He isn't, but you don't just dump a controllable productive guy for nothing, just "because."

      • From Heyman

        Miami Marlins:
        — Dan Straily was blocked on waivers and pulled back by the Marlins, reports Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald …
        — Magneuris Sierra has no walks for the year. He almost had one recently, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reported …
        — Victor Robles, who was offered as the main piece in a package for J.T. Realmuto, is “legit,” according to a rival GM …
        — There isn’t a lot of belief around the league that the Marlins will be able to sign Realmuto long-term. He has said he’ll listen, but folks suggest they believe he is mostly being polite – barring a stunningly above-market offer …
        — Top Marlins prospect Monte Harrison has 19 home runs for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (great name).

Miami believes they can sign him in Oct but as Heyman says the rest of MLB doesn't

If he says NO its gonna be

        Colorado
        Arizona
        Houston
        Washington
        Oakland
        Atlanta
        NYY

Our AFL team has Arizona/Colorado/Washington on it and they all are sending TOP guys. Duplantier/Smith/Chisholm/Varsho/Rodgers/Kieboom. I wouldn't be surprised if its 1 of those 3 teams and Washington has inside track IF they offer Robles and Kieboom Brothers. If NOT then open race for JT

Appears unlikely the Marlins make any trades today. Dietrich hasn’t garnered much interest. Castro is tough w money owed. Chen & Prado aren’t moveable. We’ll see later on if things change w DD.

          • Our farm system is bottom half and we have one valuable asset on the 25 man.

If WASH wouldn't give up Robles and Carter Kieboom at the past deadline, why in the world would they do it in the offseason? They needed Realmuto most last July.

My very point: nobody's going to give up something for DD. You can wish and hope, but not happening. Do the Marlins want to give Dietrich $4M in arbitration to play 1B or be a utility guy? Hell no. O'Brien can save the team $3M+ and provide more offense.

              • DD and a good righty who hits lefties well would be a solid platoon at 1b for us next year. DD is a guy who I think has more value to us than a club trading for him. Keep him and just bite the bullet for a few years till he’s a free agent. He doesn’t get enough credit for being as solid of a hitter as he is. He’d be ideal on a team like the a’s but we have no 1b for next year so just keep him.

Same thing with Castro. Just keep him till at least the deadline next year so you have a mlb quality option at 2b until Diaz proves he’s MLB ready instead of trading Castro this offseason and putting too much pressure on/rushing Diaz

                • Pay someone $5M to take Castro and play Bostick or Brigman at 2B next season ... or Peter Dang Mooney. Jeter wants to win, but Project Wolverine is about making $.

                  • Great illustration of how bad Sierra is:

He was intentionally walked tonight to get to Straily and it was his FIRST walk all year.

Watch out, you'll be called out for having too much cynicism if you keep this up.

My prediction is....Jeter is out after next season. Sherman will buy him out and then put the Marlins up for sale once again as the economy tanks.

Jeter has confidence (some would call is arrogance) but this rebuild is not going like the other recent rebuilds. Fish 16 won't agree but if you have traded away most of your assets and your farm system still stinks and your draft picks have been only so-so so far it's going to be hard unless you pour out some big overpay free agent contacts (not happening) to have even a 60 win team next year or in 2020....if by 2020 they still have not gotten to the 70 win mark, I am certain Sherman will want out, and Jeter will go with him. Unless they can win, attendance will continue are God forbid get worse and the economic scenario even more dire.

After a year and not a peep on the naming rights for the stadium....a huge loss of revenue, and it's shamful but seemingly no one wants to put their name on the stadium or Loria now Jeter/Sherman are just being stupid about the money they want for those rights. The stadium is in it's 7th year - even at $6 million a year that's $42 million in lost revenue, that will never be gotten back. That pays for one of those bad contracts.....this is when you scratch your head and just want to shake Jeter/Sherman and say "WAKE UP".....

but didn't Fish 16 say there is no way this team couldn't win more than 60 ? Sure my 35 was wrong....but I am right when I say this rebuild is not going towards a 2020 winning year (unless a lot of money is poured into some FA contract overpays and that ain't ever happening). And of course Sherman and Jeter will blame the fans for the lack of attendance not because they have done a lousy job of a rebuild.

                            • In fairness to other teams, the league saw the Marlins basically give Ozuna to the Cardinals and jump at the first mediocre package they were offered for Yelich.

Other teams have no incentive to let the Marlins try to play hardball after they set a really bad precedent with their first major trades.

They'd probably wait until the offseason to change the park's name.
