Pretty crazy with how bad Brinson's been this year that Sierra could come in and be significantly worse.

Think the real story is Richards though. He's holding up. If he can get a few more groundballs and walk a little less guys, he is going to explode.

I keep assuming that Straily will be moved at some point, but a rotation of Urena (if he's not moved...and I would keep him and hope he has a big 1st half before flipping him), Lopez, Richards, and Smith next year with Chen/Alcantra/Neidert/Elieser/Gallen competing for the 5th spot could be solid.

I think right now, best case scenario is:
Urena, Richards, Alcantara, Ca. Smith, Pablo (Chen is your de facto 6th SP or stretch out literally anyone else)
Steckenrider, Wittgren, Guerrero, pick 2 of Brigham/Merandy/Graves/E. Hernandez/T. Kinley/Meyer (with Guzman, Eveld, Gallen, Yamamoto looming)
Chen, Conley, Garcia (with Peters/Quijada on 40 man for lefty replacements)
Trade - Barraclough, Straily
That is a pretty fun staff.

The phelps trade is an example of why they fucked up so badly not trading relievers at the deadline. I hate keeping relievers with value on a team that is bad and plans to be bad for at least another year.

I know we are getting more into the latin american IFA market, but i wonder if the new ownership/front office has any ties to the asian markets in coming years. I know the yankees are always involved in those guys but I think Denbo specialized in latin american more than asia. Would be nice to see though. Somehow we gotta find an ace if we have a very solid base of mid rotation guys.
The issue we have is most Asia guys like the West Coast or NYC but money talks so never know

If Alcantara can secure a spot with a good September, I think they can trade/DFA Straily (he's going to make $4 million bucks so he might be a non-tender) and roll with what they got,.

Urena, Richards, Alcantara, Ca. Smith, Pablo (Chen is your de facto 6th SP or stretch out literally anyone else)

Should have alot of SP depth
2019 AAA-Alcantara/Gallen/Neidert/Elieser/Merandy/Beggs
2019 AA-Puckett/Yamamoto/Guzman/Lillie/Dugger/Mills/Poteet
2019 Hi A-Rogers/Cabrera/Roberson/Braley/Holloway/Hock/Castano
2019 Lo A-Garrett/Guerrero/Mejia/Vallimont/Culbertson/Soriano/Howe
Could add to that list with JT,RP,Straily,Castro,DD trades in WinterLast edited by tjfla; 08-23-2018, 09:37 AM.

The rest seems about right. Straily might be good to keep until June/July just to mitigate against a lingering Caleb injury, and someone always gets hurt, etc. It's a tough call. He is very cheap at $3.5-4 million and he was a solid 1.5 WAR pitcher 16/17 to just dump at this stage. But if Alcantara looks good in September and Caleb is on paper healthy for March, I get it. They don't need him with Neidert/Gallen/etc. coming
If they can get rid of Castro and Barraclough next year, this team costs approximately $50+ million. I don't know what they are thinking with payroll next year, but that's a lot of room to work with.
Realmuto, _______
Dietrich
Rojas, Bostick (Diaz coming)
Riddle
Anderson, Prado
Dean
Brinson, Ortega
Cooper
Urena, Richards, Pablo, Ca. Smith, Alcantara
Steckenrider, Wittgren, Guerrero, pick 2 Brigham/Kinley/Merandy whoever
Conley, Chen, Garcia

They are gonna try to sign JT and would love to get rid of Castro AND/OR Prado. Have heard they would like to sign a vet 1B/OF type for 1 year plus option
Not sure DD/Straily are around next year. Bearclaw probably is but expect 2019 Trade Deadline to be same as this 1 for us. Alot of RP interest and trading cheap vets we signed
Broken Record but remember 2019 means NOTHING. Don't expect them to do anything more than trying to find guys who could be on ML team come 2020Last edited by tjfla; 08-23-2018, 09:46 AM.

My hope is that they can maybe flip him to a team with a position player with an equally bad contract and swap problems.
Solves problems-opens up rotation spot for Sandy and gives Miami a vet OF who probably won't play but help younger guys
Something to watch with Chen is don't forget he has a vesting option for 2021
•2021 option vests with
180 IP in 2020, or 360 across 2019-20
Is not on the DL at the end of 2020 and is healthy in 2021Last edited by tjfla; 08-23-2018, 10:02 AM.

Tulowitzki for Chen? Maybe throw in a minor prospect.
Chen still makes $16 more than Tulo with deferred money. Probably a player and eating real cash. Hard to move those guys but like the idea.
