we are an absolute mash unit right now. Guys we thought would be playing a role this year who are either injured now or never played this year include Sandy, Eury, Rogers, Arraez is banged up, burger appears to be banged up, Meyer never came back, Sixto might not be a real human being, Barnes is out for the year, Avisail Garcia barely played which might be a good thing, brazoban is out, cueto missed most of the year and has been awful in his time actually healthy, jazz has missed a huge part of the year. If we make the playoffs at this point that would be an unbelievable feat.Last edited by fish16; 09-25-2023, 02:16 PM.

The biggest thing for him is to become an elite or above average defensive 2b. If he can do that with his clear incredible plate discipline, his speed on the basepaths, and the way that he appears to be just one of those guys like arraez who is a pure hitter, there is a role here for him. I think he will do it, he was showing that ability in AAA. Last year he had 5 hr's in AAA, and this year he had 7. In his career the 3 years prior, he had 6 total. He will never be like Arraez where i think a small swing tweak could get him to 15-20 hr's a year, but i think there is enough power to be a super high OBP leadoff guy with limited power but enough pure hitting ability and speed to be an every day guy. Time will tell, but i think there is more than enough talent and game outside of the subpar power where he can be a 2-3 WAR guy as a starter at 2b. I think he needs to be an everyday guy at 2b next year leading off with Arraez right behind him, and Bell at DH. I imagine next year the lineup should be (barring a huge addition at SS and C), some form of Edwards, Arraez, Bell, Jazz, Burger. That's a really interesting group of pure hitters, some speed, and big time power. They really need to get a SS who can hit 20-25 hr's though.
And yes on the SS. Adames Adames Adames. Even if Sandy is hurt, go get him and conjure up some SP in free agency.

and not only are we banged up, we can trust like 2-3 guys out of the bullpen right now. Okert has been awful in the 2nd half, puk's overall numbers are fine but he cant stop giving up crucial homers, hoeing has been mediocre, robertson has been a trainwreck. it's really just been Nardi and Scott who have carried us, and i guess moore has overall good numbers for the year, but it's tough to ask him to come in and pitch huge innings in a playoff chase after just getting here. This is really just an absolute trainwreck of a staff right now being carried by like 5 of 12 guys.
Im sure he will break my heart at some point soon, but robertson has been better in september overall, though way too many walks. We desperately need him to be solid this last week.

if we make the playoffs, it will be on the backs of the offense. the pitching has fallen apart, but we as a team have a .786 OPS in september, and that's with Wendle and Stallings bringing that way down. Going to need huge weeks from Jazz, Burger, Bell, and Soler. We need sanchez to get hot again too, the slugging has disappeared. jazz needs to pick it up though, the 2 days with grand slams were great, but he's got 28 k's in 76 ab's.

The Athletic just put an article up, and confirmed we have the tiebreaker against all of the Phillies, D'backs, Cubs, and Reds.
Hopefully we perform well enough that we don't have to worry about ties, but if we at least tie one of the latter 3 teams, we'll be in.
Fingers crossed!
