  • I keep going back to Danny Jansen. He has a year left on his deal. Will likely want to cash in and the Marlins could extend for 3-4 years. They have Kirk. They many infielders, need to sign Vlad and Bichette, and they have a left handed quasi-SS in Barger who should be a good platoon guy with Berti, Amaya, and Edwards to play all over. They need a lot of help in FA as Chapman goes and they need another SP as Manoah can't be trusted. Chad Green ($6m) is a good salary dump for them as they have relievers and the Marlins need a RHP reliever.

Maybe the Marlins can send them Puk or Okert, Mesa Jr., Mack, and a throw-in for Jansen, Barger, and Green. That gets $10m off their books once Jansen's deal is addressed and the Marlins could extend Scott to get them years with him, Nardi, and the other of Puk/Okert they don't trade as the lefty core. Given Banfield looks like a good 3rd catcher at minimum, who cares about Mack. Draft a catcher with your 2nd pick in 2024.

I'd try something like that and figure out how to make it worth their while. Maybe even you send them something really good and take back Manoah as he is a huge change of scenery guy and bet the Marlins pitching voodoo fixes him. Lots of options but Danny is what I would love to see happen.

    • they should sign mitch garver and get a defensive first backup who is not a single A level hitter. Garver isnt a great defender but hopefully by 2025 robo umps come into play. Garver is a tremendous hitter with phenomenal power which we need, wouldnt require a shit ton of money or a lot of years, and wouldnt require giving up assets. Then you can go see who you can acquire using assets for SS, slide Edwards to 2b, Arraez to 1b, Bell to DH if he doesnt opt out, and now you have an actual lineup without 2 complete holes at the end.

crushes lefties but hits righties well as well so it shouldnt be terribly hard to find somebody who can make that a really solid platoon.

If he can't come back this year and try to pitch through it, just get it done. It is an inevitability at this point now unfortunately.
Actually, a third degree sprain is a partial tear.

If the bold is correct and confirmed by their medical staffs, I agree do the surgery. But, if the surgery is an inevitability, don't you just throw him ROS if you can sneak 10-20 more innings out of him before it really tears and then do the surgery the day after the hoists the world series trophy(laugh track).

Basically, if he's going to have to get it and there is no way he can make things worse by trying to pitch in short bursts until it tears (I don't know the answer to this), you can just throw him and say see ya April 2025.

If you do that, you're not giving Soler the QO as they couldn't handle all these no-defense guys in the same lineup + likely financial as Garver wouldn't be that much cheaper than Soler. It would be a lot easier if Bell opts out for sure but that is extremely unlikely. Garver is a 80+ game DH and 50+ game catcher to me, so it would be committing to Fortes as the strong side option and Garver would replace half of Stallings and half of Soler. That isn't necessarily a bad idea as Fortes hits lefties hard and is a solid defender so you could scale Garver's games against all right handers behind the plate, but it is putting a lot of faith in Fortes IMO as you couldn't play Mitch too much there. I'd like Fortes to be reduced to the backup spot. But ultimately, no Soler, Garver, and a real upgrade at SS and another OF, can make sense in the aggregate. So this isn't a dead on arrival idea to me but there would need to be some moving pieces.

What's fun is, Toronto is perfect for Garver. Kirk can absolutely carry a load and Garver would be a real weapon for them to replace Jansen and Belt effectively. He wouldn't cost them much extra if some team bailed them out of Chad Green + Jansen moved like I mentioned. Could work out for everyone.

            • 13 stolen bases. That's how many today's Marlin lineup has accumulated. For the entire season. Anyone for small ball?

the only guy with speed who has been in our lineup every day all year has been jazz, who gets injured every time he steals a bag. who would you like to steal? Josh bell and stallings?

                  • the offense still leaves a lot to be desired, but it is greatly improved over last year. Last year we had a terrible .658 OPS as a team and were 27th in baseball, this year we have a mediocre .713 OPS and are 19th in baseball. we just desperately need to have jazz healthy, add 1 more middle of the order run producing bat, and just not have complete black holes at SS and catcher.

We just passed on the best option on draft day. Catcher Kyle Teel should have been the Marlins pick. He's like .950 at both High-A and AA for Red Sox. Can't believe we passed on that one.

He certainly would have been a strong choice which I agree with you on and I did think he was a best case scenario to drop to them, but we're not going to know for years if they botched this one. Teel has a .500 BABIP in 100 PA. People like Meyer. We'll see what happens.

But Banfield is looking way better and Fortes is strong defensively with a .229 BABIP so he's eventually going to get some hits. They just need a strong side play-now catcher which Teel is not likely for years. All roads lead to Jansen for me and figuring out if this can be one-stop shopping as they could also solve the left handed SS (Barger, he could do it in platoon for at least a year or two probably) and RHP reliever (Green) needs of the team, and that package for those 3 can't be earth shattering. They could even send them Rogers and Okert for that in a package (likely a prospect coming back too for them) and just sign a SP in free agency to be the "6th" starter behind the obvious 5. So many permutations will work here and I do think the Jays would deal if they got some cheap arms back. We can hope anyways as I don't see other longterm catchers anywhere in the league that may be available and Danny is 28 so he should have another good 3-4 in him.

                              • We're lucky to somehow still only be 1/2 game out of the 3rd WC.

Unfortunately we've not been able to take advantage.
