Their current rotation is Luzardo, Eury, Cabrera, Garrett, and Cueto. That's not ideal with Sandy out but its passable and Weathers isnt an improvement on any of those guys. He's also not "mowing down" AAA hitters. He has 5 walks in his last 10 innings. What exactly do you think has changed in the 2 weeks since he was last terrible up here in san diego? If they want a guy who can eat some innings at a decent level just bring up castano. Or go add maldonado to the 40 man and see what they have in him. They need a righty reliever. What exactly does weathers bring at this point that we dont already have. He is maybe our 8th best SP option at this point between the above 5 plus Soriano and Hoeing. We have 4 quality lefties in the pen. He brings nothing. Let him continue to develop in AAA and in the offseason and see if he can be an option next spring. Nothing has changed in 2 AAA starts.
Also, having "MLB experience" isnt exactly promising as an option to me when he has a 6.12 ERA in 150 innings in that experience.Last edited by Lee Stone; 09-08-2023, 10:38 AM.

Cabrera, Eury, Luzardo, Garrett and Cueto are all pretty much five inning starters. Weathers strikes me as an "opener" candidate against a team like the Phillies, who have Schwarber and Harper near the top of the batting order.Last edited by fish16; 09-08-2023, 11:17 AM.

Regarding the attendance figures, I've been keeping track of attendance figures for last year and this year.
I haven't updated the numbers through the Dodgers series, but prior to Tuesday's game 1, the numbers were the following:
Total attendance:
2023 - 969,820
2022 - 784,656
YOY Difference: +185,164
Average per game:
2023 - 14,055
2022 - 11,372
YOY Difference: +2,684
A 23.60% increase over last year.
So having a relevant team obviously results in an increase, and we've been on an increasing trend overall during the season (higher attendance per game as the season goes on) as well.
Obviously an even better team will keep improving.
I've always thought the market IS there, it's just the fanbase has been so abused and the team so irrelevant that people aren't going to put money into a bad product.

Just pulling Yankees out isn't fair, as you'd still have other games to compare to vs. last year. There was a Mariners series last year that had unusually high attendance, am I just supposed to pull that out? Also, with the new balanced schedule, we're playing the Yankees every year from here out.

we DFA'd Smeltzer and brought up a guy named Enmanuel De Jesus, who has been awful in AAA. This is just not a serious franchise. We're in the middle of a playoff chase and we are not calling up the best potential arms for stupid 40 man roster reasons. Maldonado can help this team, he should be up here. De Jesus is just a different Smeltzer who stinks but can eat innings in a blowout. We already have hoeing and soriano up here

Sure, they're still low, but you have to start somewhere. I'm viewing it in a more positive light that fans will come out if the team is worth watching, but it'll still take time to overcome the past.

How is the rest situation and health of all arms in AAA, combined with MLB availability? Is he going to be up only for 1-2 days and likely not play before another arm is available so is this just a move to have a body for an extra innings disaster? Do you know the answer to all of these questions?
They have Tommy Nance who has been good since he came back from injury and hasnt pitched since wednesday, Maldonado deserves a shot hasnt pitched since wednesday, Castano has pitched well and will be on normal rest by sunday,
Stop worrying about eating innings in a blowout and start worrying about getting outs from the bullpen. There are 20 fucking games left and they are half a game out and we're worried about innings in a blow out?Last edited by fish16; 09-08-2023, 02:58 PM.

I mean the franchise has issues but I assume not caring if they lose a player if you take them off the 40 man probably matters, as well.Amy Adams, AKA Cinnamon MuffLogan Morrison: "If baseball didn't exist, I would probably be ... like a curler. Or a hairstylist."
