  • Cabrera being able to finish this game off would be big for a bullpen game. All of a sudden that’s just a normal 5 inning start with only a few relievers used, and you’re two best relievers getting the night off. That was a huge inning not only for this game but hopefully for the next few as well if Cabrera can just not blow up the rest of the night

    • I will die on the hill that Cabrera will eventually at least get his control and command to the point where he becomes a #3 starter with the ceiling of an ace. He’s just way too young with way too much talent to not eventually get it under control (no pun intended)

      • Lou would probably be able to answer this- were we able to gain any kind of extra control of Cabrera in the month plus that he was sent down for?

        • Sanchez up to an .826 ops. Feels like we can safely call it a full on break out year for him. Hasn’t gotten many opportunities against lefties but passable enough.

          • Edwards has a clearly terrific feel for the strike zone. Even with some outs the at bats are really good. He and Arraez can really do damage at the top of the order for years hopefully

            • Going into September 7th we will have sole possession of the final wild card spot

No more control, they have him 2024-2028 no matter what. He was at .168 service days before the year, meaning he was just 4 days from having one less year of control so they’d have to keep him down the literal entire year to get 2029.

However, he was down 35 days so I think that would net out to he’ll end this year (assuming not going down here on out) at 1.133 days. Historical Super2 deadlines are around 2.116-2.134 days. It varies, usually low/mid 120s on average. Puk recently missed it at 2.124 days for perspective. So they might have deflected a super2. It’s going to be really close. If they are able to send him down for another 10 days they’ll probably do it, but that’s a real hard sell right now with Sandy hurt and Eury teetering on innings. So, if anything, maybe they saved likely not so much money as it’s not like Cabrera is doing great for his career right now. But I am very confident the Marlins do everything in their power to save money and likely have mapped out everyone in baseball to know the threshold so I’m not going to be surprised if he misses it by the skin of his teeth. We’ll see post 2024 but the TLDR is no more control, maybe a few million bucks saved over 2025-2028 if Cabrera makes it.

                • id love to see what the odds would have been after the rangers series a month ago that we would be sitting in a playoff spot today and they would be on the outside looking in

                  • As shared months ago, it would be great to see Edwards, Arraez, and Chisholm at top of the order. We'll get there one of these days, and then it will stay that way. (Wouldn't mind seeing Amaya at SS and hitting ninth either.)

I think we all generally agree there. I too have been saying for months to call up Amaya to play against all LHP. Also you'd have to knock Jazz down vs LHP for sure. I think core lineups should be something like this:

                      vs RHP
                      1 1B Arraez
                      2 2B Edwards
                      3 CF Jazz
4 DH Bell (next three relatively interchangeable)
                      5 3B Burger
                      6 RF Sanchez
7 LF DLC (next two relatively interchangeable)
                      8 SS Berti
                      9 C Fortes/Stallings
                      (B - Fortes/Stallings, Yuli, Amaya, Hampson, Wendle/Myers)

                      vs LHP
                      1 3B Berti
                      2 DH Bell
                      3 1B Burger
                      4 2B Arraez
                      5 RF DLC
                      6 CF Jazz/Edwards
                      7 LF Edwards/Hampson
                      8 C Fortes
                      9 SS Amaya
                      (B - Stallings, Yuli, Sanchez, Wendle/Myers, one of Jazz/Edwards/Hampson)

Just pray to god on OF defense against lefties, but it "works" without Soler doing something like this. It's just time to ride the starting bats with relatively no off days. Sink or swim.

                      • this is a huge game tonight. every game is huge the rest of the year, but to sweep the dodgers as opposed to going 2-1 is a huge swing game to start this ridiculous 2 week schedule before it lightens up a little to end the year.

                        • Shane Reynolds kicking ass for Padres AAA. 7.2 innings and ... drumroll ... 24 runs. Cooper performing at the same rate he always has for the Padres. .748 OPS. On the Marlins side of that one, Weathers is proving to be a solid AAA starter. Maybe he'll solve his command issues and become another Luzardo.
