They have gotten hot and cold at literally the exact worse times all year long. Started off mediocre, got hot as the panthers and heat were making their runs, as soon as they ended we skidded for close to 2 months, and we’re getting hot as football season is starting

    • The play that never works (picking the runner off of 2B) just cost us turning a double play

      • Bloody miracle that Garrett gets through four (almost) without giving up more than one run. Now Soriano I suppose.

          • There’s no reason why Anthony Maldonado shouldn’t be up here tomorrow for Smeltzer. We need a righty reliever and he is a potential weapon down the stretch over some of our current options. Realistically we will Troy Johnston him though

I don't think most people ever witnessed a game where one team was outhit 16-1 either.

              • Are we ready to admit that Smeltzer kind of just fucking sucks? as we discussed at the time, he’s just a useless arm who can eat meaningless innings.

the guy might be one of the worst pitchers in baseball I’ve ever seen get a consistent run at the major league level.he’s a clown

Marlins averaged 8 runs a game for the 6 games prior to my mush. Sorry fellas.

                  • Sure would have been nice to see Chisholm and Edwards put down some bunts for hits when leading off the 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th.

                    • 34,000 TOTAL attendance for the 3 game series. What a joke.

                      • Weathers forecast. Ryan back for another try at ML level? Based on AAA performances, he's the best option for a call up today.

do you ever get tired of making absurd proclamations based on minor league small samples? He was up here literally 2 weeks ago and was awful and his first taste up here with us was awful. he shouldnt be anywhere near this roster the rest of the year. let him work his shit out with mel in the offseason.

This is what having a poor product for 20 years does. Florida Panthers on a quick google search had an average attendance last year 3k higher than the Marlins. Which is insane. 16k versus 13k for each. Hockey in south florida. Even more insane is Tampa is averaging 17k fans a game this year. They average 4k more fans a game than the Marlins and they have been a gold standard for a decade. That city doesn't deserve them. Tampa should move. In any event I hope they see what signing a "Messi" or trading for a "Tkachuk" or "Hill" or splurging on a "Cristobal" or continually going for it like the Heat does to a fan base and realize at some point they have to invest in their business over years to restore fan confidence. Of course this is the whole, Bruce is too poor to really own a team so we're stuck as he can't really afford those moves.

Just venting, but I feel confident this team would generate A LOT of interest if they dropped Bellinger, E. Rodriguez, Narvaez, retained Soler and Robertson (he isn't this bad or swap in a similar RHP veteran reliever), and traded Rogers+Okert+DLC for Joey Ortiz/similar next year, and then extended Arraez, Luzardo, Eury, Jazz, and Scott all at the same time. It would push them to around 18th in payroll (similar to Minnesota and Seattle) which I mean, should be a low expectation in a contending window. That would be $500m in new contracts easily which is a glitzy number to have press releases on, but it's something like 45 years of service time so this is aggregatively a $10-11m player for those 45 roster spots over years and years which is frankly not a lot on a big picture level. Especially when considering this is multiple multiple all-star level players being signed here. This is spread out over 5-7+ years easily and they can fill in club controlled guys around them as they pop up to deflect payroll. And that ignores you'd be doing 3 big arbitration buyouts to keep costs in check. Talk about a longterm core with Arraez, Edwards, Ortiz/Amaya, Burger, Bellinger, Jazz, Sanchez, Sandy, Eury, Cabrera, Luzardo, Eduardo, Garrett, Meyer, and the lefty relievers signed/controlled for the predominance of the rest of the decade + whatever they'd get out of guys like Berry, Cappe, Fulton, etc. working out. It's your entire starting lineup and rotation (besides catcher) with 4+ years of control and most longer than that.

                            Naravez, Fortes (Banfield)
                            Arraez, Bell (Johnston, Berry)
                            Edwards (Cappe)
                            J. Ortiz, Amaya (Nasim)
                            Burger, Berti
                            Bellinger, Soler (Burdick)
                            Jazz (Mesa Jr.)
                            Sanchez (Myers)

                            Sandy, Eury, Cabrera
                            Luzardo, E. Rodriguez, Garrett
Robertson, Chargois, Meyer (Bedner, Brazoban, Soriano, Maldonado, Sixto maybe)
Scott, Puk, Nardi, Weathers (Fulton, Monteverde)

We can dream, but this is very doable with a $140m-150m budget next year which literally is 18th in the sport this year. It would be nice if ownership gave a shit, because frankly, if it doesn't work out you can sell and make money as the franchise has no doubt appreciated in value and it's not like you couldn't firesale this core off in 3 years if nothing happens as these guys should mostly be players. Maybe one day we can have a slightly below average payroll and they want to invest in the business versus trying to nickel and dime a contender.

And I will add here, Tampa ownership is probably worse as if anyone should be splurging on a player or two with their payroll and team it is them. I think we'd all be even more upset if we perpetually had a 85-90+ efficient win Rays team making the playoffs, and they refuse to sign a luxury upgrade or two to push them over the top. Total bullshit ownership there too.

Lee does do that, but not this time IMO. They don't have much else to work with. They are in desperation territory already and quite frankly, he is mowing down the AAA hitters and has a lot of MLB experience. I wouldn't mind seeing him back as a 1 time through guy, but he shouldn't be throwing more than that. They gotta survive the next 10 (Phi, Brew, Atl) to get to those double Mets and Pirates games. All hands on deck.

Their current rotation is Luzardo, Eury, Cabrera, Garrett, and Cueto. That's not ideal with Sandy out but its passable and Weathers isnt an improvement on any of those guys. He's also not "mowing down" AAA hitters. He has 5 walks in his last 10 innings. What exactly do you think has changed in the 2 weeks since he was last terrible up here in san diego? If they want a guy who can eat some innings at a decent level just bring up castano. Or go add maldonado to the 40 man and see what they have in him. They need a righty reliever. What exactly does weathers bring at this point that we dont already have. He is maybe our 8th best SP option at this point between the above 5 plus Soriano and Hoeing. We have 4 quality lefties in the pen. He brings nothing. Let him continue to develop in AAA and in the offseason and see if he can be an option next spring. Nothing has changed in 2 AAA starts.

Also, having "MLB experience" isnt exactly promising as an option to me when he has a 6.12 ERA in 150 innings in that experience.
