Frankie says relax. Unless you think Amaya is better than Andrus right now, Andrus would be really welcome today over Wendle. The bar is low here. But yes rinse/repeat, why isn't Turner, Xander, Correa, or Swanson on this team and the problem is Bruce.
Turner, Xander, and Correa are all having mediocre seasons and 2 of them signed for 10 years and the other failed his physical with 2 teams. Those contracts would have crippled this team down the line. and this is just year 1. They needed to acquire a SS but those guys werent it. They need to either develop a SS or trade for one using pitching. Unless we are going to greatly boost payroll, signing any of the top free agents every year for 7-10 years is a terrible idea.

    • Joey Wendle has been worth -.12 offensive WAR. DeJong is at -12.7.

DeJong is better defensively while being as bad offensively.

      He isn't an upgrade.

As you are no doubt aware, however, I preferred the idea of trading high on Alcantara over the winter. He had double or triple the trade value of Lopez at the time and the Marlins needed more than one solid addition to the team.
I don't recall you being a big fan of Lopez while he was with the team, but as soon as he got traded, Lee Stone is #1 Pablo fan of all time.

i recall him being apoplectic when he saw jose salas was involved. Jose Salas has a .173 average, .503 OPS and is now behind his 17 year old brother by a level in the minors.

Jazz should of been at short and they signed a legit center fielder.

Chisholm has graded out ridiculously good in CF.

Chisholm in CF, Edwards at 2B, Amaya at SS, and Arraez at DH should have been the lineup a while ago.

              C-Nick Fortes
              1B-Josh Bell
              2B-Xavier Edwards

Jazz was a truly horrific short stop. There is a reason why he was never even tried there in the big leagues. In 200 minor league games at ss he had 60 errors

I would swap Arraez and Bell positionally.

Deluxe lineup, Todd, but I agree with Nick’s tinker

                    • Works for me. Not sure why I had it in my head that Bell was a great defensive 1B.

he makes the routine plays but he plays as if he is wearing a heavy weight vest and ankle weights. his range is nonexistent

Which is weird because, he runs pretty well on the bases, but yeah fielding, it seems like he has no range at all.

he's a big dude, it's probably easier when you know what direction you have to run if youre going to have to start running quickly. His side to side range is awful because of how big he is. I think that's the bigger thing for him. His running speed is fine but his side to side speed and reaction time isnt great.

                            • 27.2% to be a Wild Card team. They have to play really well against the Nats.

                                DH-Luis Arraez
I would tinker to this, but not really worry about the positions as they could deploy these guys all over:

                                C Fortes, Stallings/Alfaro
                                1B Arraez, Bell
                                2B Edwards, Hampson
                                SS Berti, Amaya
                                3B Burger
                                LF Soler, DLC
                                CF Jazz
                                RF Sanchez

                                And do...

vs RHP - Hampson and Amaya always benched, Fortes/Stallings in a 50/50 timeshare, and rotating off days for Bell, Burger, Soler, and DLC. Just cycle them every 4th game or if someone is banged up. It'll keep them all fresh. Or maybe DLC is just benched more often here outright if the other 3 remain nuclear hot.

vs LHP - Jazz, Sanchez, and Stallings always benched, and rotating off days for Arraez, Berti, and Edwards. Probably bench Berti and Edwards more here for Arraez only when needed.

That cycles off days for everyone so everyone stays fresh and accounts for Jazz injury risk, etc.
