The 6 games against the nats will be huge. We have destroyed them the last 2 years so if we can take care of business there it will go a long way to getting us back to 10 games over.
Assuming you’re talking about after we play the Astros for 3 at home and then 3 at Dodger Stadium?

Hampson's been doing very well at AAA since he got sent down as well.

yes. Should say our schedule really lightens up after this week so not having a terrible week and holding our own will go a long way.

        • I cant imagine edwards isnt up here for September. Id imagine they call cabrera up to replace brazoban and call up BOTH edwards and Hampson.

I agree he likely wouldn't get that next year, at best he'd get close to that over 2 years for the same deal again. Hoskins is going to be a FA and why is someone spending so much more on Bell than him even off injury? And Soler is going to be competition for that basher DH roll too, etc. Teoscar is a free agent too. Winker might be also. And then there are guys like Grichuk who are doing well who would be cheaper options, and he can actually play defense. I think the "Soler" contract is a little low for him over 3 years. Plus, Boras represents him so he has the most aggressive guy if they do opt out.

I think it would be a big risk of him opting out and not finding a market and all of a sudden he's screwed like Profar (who left money on the table to opt out and he's totally flat lined). I think he sticks even if he has a big 2 months as team's will judge his stay in SD + first half in Cleveland. If he does look real good maybe the Marlins float him a $11.5-13.5 extension so he becomes a 2/$28-30 player for them as an incentive to not opt out. Maybe it''s guaranteeing him the $11.5 but great incentives on top of it. That would put Bell at a floor $70m in career earnings which isn't too shabby. He's already at the point where he doesn't need the money and should want to win IMO. Dare I say, the Marlins are a good landing point there to win with this pitching.

They have the money for this, especially if they do something like Rogers + Okert for a Joey Ortiz type and another young OF 2-2 package, and then get Arraez, Luzardo, Eury, and maybe Scott and Jazz extensions. I'm not too worried about Bell. If he opts out, that just means they have money for Hoskins, Soler, Teoscar, etc. Or maybe Santandar is adding to an Ortiz trade for Baltimore to shed money with a guy with 1 year of control, etc. Lots of options here.

            • The way we use our pitchers I don't think there's any way we do not call up a 14th arm.

Unfortunately i agree. If that is the case the guy to call up better be edwards. It continues to boggle my mind that he hasnt gotten another call up. Stuff like that usually works itself out though with someone getting injured, or maybe garcia getting "injured". If the rotation continues to stay healthy though, i would really like to see what cabrera can do for a month in some 2-3 inning stints out of the bullpen. Could be a real weapon if his control is merely average.

GB% was 53.4 last year, this year it is at 51.7%. Fastball velocity is the exact same. BABIP is slightly higher this year. The biggest difference is the LOB%. Last year it was 78, this year it is just 68%. So teams are cashing in more this year which we saw throughout the first half of the year. Second half so far he is at 83% LOB so he has fixed whatever was going on with guys on base. Hopefully he can continue to be the horse we need for the rest of the year as i expect guys like Luzardo and Garrett to slightly regress the last part of the year with the innings they have pitched.
He's just going to be 2019-2021 Sandy and he had the magical statistical year in 2022. I feel pretty comfortable in him being a floor 3.5 WAR pitcher eating huge innings with some spikes up in great years. This is a down year and he's probably going to have a 3.8 era over 200 innings which is crazy. He's fine. I think he was tipping pitches or over thinking it with some of those 1 innings blowups.

Luzardo and Garrett definitely need to be babied a little here on out. They are going to need to get big innings out of Cabrera, Cueto, and dare I say Weathers (and Hoeing?) to help this. Sandy chucking 7+ innings is going to really impact a bullpen trickle down here.

Has there been any news on Rogers being able to get back mid-September? I haven't seen anything in awhile but that would be REALLY helpful if they do stay in it another month.

I think rogers is done for the year. Nothing announced but his injury was not a minor one. Luzardo has had 2 bad outings in a row but they also came against 1 of the best lineups in baseball and another lineup that has Stanton and Judge. If it continues for a few more starts then ill be worried. Garrett has bounced back after a rough patch in july so hopefully he keeps it up.

I'm a little worried that they fucked with eury. He is completely out of rhythm. I just dont know how you send him down with 0 plan. Id rather they just kept him up until his innings limit then send him down and not pitch him for an entire fucking month. Hopefully he regains some rhythm moving forward because he had no feel for his offspeed stuff either of the last 2 outings.

                    • i think there is a good chance we are underdogs for all 6 games this week. Going 3-3 is going to be hard but it would be a huge win to just split the 6 and move on

It's the hard stretch and those guys are all getting up there to their peak innings. I think they need to throw them all less (call it 4-5 inning starters versus 5-6 ones) and trust the bullpen to carry a load a little more. Throw Sandy and Cueto into the ground and get Cabrera up ASAP as he has some arm inventory left, or at least more than Luzardo, Garrett, and Eury. Hopefully they can fix/tweak Weathers fast as he has a ton of innings left and they may actually need him to throw 30+ here on out. I can see them trying some Weathers + Hoeing combo days against the Nationals coming up, i.e. weaker opponent. It's going to get weird with a lot of AAA call ups of moving arms with usage up and down. Brazoban, Soriano, Weathers, and Hoeing are going to be rotating in and out a lot from how I am seeing this play out, and Nance is actually throwing and looking good on the stat line so he may become part of that mix too real quick.

                        • I suspect Wander Franco won’t be in the lineup when we face the Rays Aug 29th. This investigation will take a lot of time.

It'd be a very Marlins thing for him to return the night of our series.
