Taking 3 innings out of 19 is the definition of cherry picking. Cueto has been totally unspectacularly fine. And talking about one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball..... the guy has a xFIP of 3.79. Which is amazing for a 20 year old, but you should pump the breaks here about just throwing out he is one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball. He is very very good but he's not Strider (yet). In any event, you want this unbelievable pitcher pitching in October IMO. What's the point of just shutting him down September 5th and yes, then spending more money on him just because? Should we want this organization to expect success that they will in fact need him in October? I'll take the longterm view and hope to have him pitching in October, with having the exact same MLB inning availability. The broken record of no fatigue is an irrelevant comment as you are not a team doctor nor medical professional and there are countless examples - including Fernandez - of guys this young breaking down for previous year overuse.

We can agree to disagree, but this is 100% insane IMO. The team sucks lately and trying to correlate this to a singular roster move after they traded for 3 prominent players is beyond a stretch. Hammer them on Wendle and Edwards type shit. This is a, stop trying to make fetch happen level response. This is not a thing with team morale imploding with Eury.

we have a single game scheduled for october 1 and then the season ends. there is no october for them to save him for at this point because the team has completely shit the bed not solely due to his absence, but due in part to his absence.. It's not the only move, but taking out ace level performance when they were playing well in favor of mediocre #5 production certainly contributed to the slide. And i took out the 3 cueto innings because they were in mop up duty, he didnt start. Even in that Baltimore game, if we want to talk XFIP, his XFIP was 6.33. He got super lucky. His 3 starts XFIPs have been 2.97, 4.28, and 5.66. If we're talking about replacing eury, his starts are what has replaced eury. Cueto himself has an XFIP of over 5. He has a BABIP of .182. Cabrera's 3 starts since Eury went down, his XFIPS in those performances were 3.98, 8.72, and 7.82. The game Okert started his XFIP was 17.99. Goerge Soriano's Xfip the other day in Texas was 6.99.

Also, the only reason they would shut him down as opposed to just monitoring them is the completely arbitrary 120 innings cutoff. He has thrown over 90 pitches twice in 12 starts. All they had to do was monitor him throughout the end of the year. Their rationale didnt even make sense. They didnt want to tax the bullpen, and then the 3rd game after he was sent down they had a fucking bullpen day. If they were going to send him down, fine. have a plan. They had 0 plan, and it exacerbated their bullpen fatigue. They werent even planning on having cueto in the rotation. They. Had. No. Plan. That's the issue.

Also, the fernandez comparison is nonsense. They limited Jose's innings his first year to 172 after 134 his first minor league year and he immediately needed TJ surgery the next year anyways. Strasburg was limited and shut down himself and has been injured his whole career. Felix hernandez wasn't limited and pitcher 150 innings at 18 in the minors, and he was one of the healthiest most durable pitchers in the modern era. Clayton Kershaw pitched 170 innings at 20 and was one of the more durable pitchers in baseball for a long time. It's a crapshoot. You monitor him. If he shows any signs of fatigue, you shut him down or adjust the plan.

bottom line is this team has sucked considerably on both sides of the ball since the all star break compared to before the all star break. We have scored .92 runs per game less and are allowing .8 runs per game more. They are toast. And their refusal to bring up at least edwards combined with their plan for eury combined with Skip doing whatever the fuck skip has been doing for the last month have been a completely toxic combination.

Since the all star break, the offense is 10th in total hits, and would likely be 8th given that 8 and 9 have played a game more than them, and we are 26th in total runs. on a related note, we are also dead last in hr's and ab/HR. We hit a HR every 42 at bats. the 29th ranked team is closer to #21 than they are to us at 30.
